QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 3, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) So after watching way too much college basketball yesterday, Kansas is far and away the best team in the country. Their defense is outstanding, great depth, and Self has them playing great. It's ironic, as their two superstars haven't even improved this season (Aldrich and Collins). Henry is the 2nd best freshman in the country, and the Morris twins impress me. As long as they stay away from football players, this team should easily make the Final Four. Texas is right there with them. But yes, there's no doubt that they should be in the FF come March.

Who are you pulling for as the DH?
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) And Plan C is rotating DH? There better be no plan C. This is the only hole we have left on the club, as long as it's not a long term deal(which I don't see any of the dh candidates getting) then we should be able to over pay just a little bit if need be.

I already forgot who was announcing the Illini game but I love how he said at least 5 times that Northwestern was unbeaten before they played Illinois a few days ago.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 2, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) I believe SIU is very close to realizing their potential both defensively and offensively, when they go on their runs they are pushed by defensive turnovers(the trap steal on Maniscalco last night in the closing 2 minutes was huge). The fact that there truly is no quit in them is tremendous. Hopefully Crowder can come back soon and make the bench that much deeper and give Dillard and Freeman a few more rest minutes The trap worked twice yesterday to my recollection, causing two turnovers. A ton of other times it led to layups, it doesn't work well with this group. Sure you can throw it out there every now and than, but we shouldn't be using it all game. What got us back into the game was actually the diamond press at the end, that's what caused all the turnovers. Playing a 2-3 zone for parts of a game makes a ton of sense for this team. Will help keep the dribble drive under control and allow Anthony and Nick to stay around the hoop more instead of chasing guards around the perimeter which all our bigs struggle to do. I really don't expect any of this to happen though, I'm sure we'll keep struggling defensively with what we've been doing.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) Booker looks like he is wearing cement boots on defense sometimes. He's not very quick side to side and Lowery isn't putting him in a position to succeed on defense. He shouldn't be chasing guards around the perimeter. The trap needs to go, it was fantastic when we had the guys to run it but it's absolutely brutal now because our team as a whole is just slow as hell rotating. We clearly need to make adjustments defensively and that's the starting point, having a 6'8" guy with long arms and a 35 inch vertical around the basket should help erase some of the easier baskets that teams have been getting by blowing by our guards up top To be perfectly honest though, it's time for us to start playing some zone. I know it goes against everything our program has stood for but this isn't the same team. Our perimeter defense is just absolutely pitiful, we get blown by up top almost every possession, it's brutal to watch. Switching to a zone should definitely help that. Lowery's trademark has obviously been defense but this is an offensive team now. He needs to swallow his pride and make these adjustments. If we can stop the dribble penetration just a little bit, we're going to be very tough to beat.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Awful defensive first half so far for SIU. Good to know we still suck on the road. Silly me for thinking we might end some of this crap tonight. I don't care how good we've been in the 2nd half, we ain't coming back from this one.

Nothing but bumps and bruises but I thank God it wasnt way worse cause I thought I was a dead man. Ok, you too? That's crazy that something like that could happen to both of us and neither of us really got hurt. Glad to hear you're ok, man.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) No. You never have enough pitching. Plus we usually end up trading our prospcts away for some guy that KW has "had his eye on for years." I would like to see that stop and us promote from within I agree with the first part of your post. As for the 2nd part, name one prospect that has come back to haunt us? Just one...

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 31, 2009 -> 01:11 PM) I know people like to complain about the reffing in the NBA but it is vastly superior to college officiating. There are times I wonder if college refs are even watching the game. Basketball officiating sucks at all levels.

I used to get any one Jenny McCarthy put out bak in the day. What should I get? And No! No puppies or kittens! My mom got me the 2010 one for Christmas, it has Thome, Dye and wait for it... JOSH FIELDS on it.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 30, 2009 -> 10:08 PM) NU really needs to stop letting Mirkovic shoot, he's thrown up an awful lot of ugly shots. He's not exactly the guy I would want taking contested shots. Didn't see the first half but he's looked terrible here in the 2nd half.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 29, 2009 -> 08:19 PM) Ugly basketball was the hallmark of their tournament run 02-07, so it doesnt phase me anymore And with that ugly drought, they were still only down 2 at the half Hell, I loved ugly ball back in the glory days. That was a different team though, this team can't do what they did and I just expect more offensively overall out of this group. They FINALLLLLLLLY showed what they can do in the 2nd half today. The defense was beautiful, the run outs, the shooting, everything was just pertty in the 2nd half and all with Kevin, Tony and Carlton on the bench. Good start, now here comes the tough road trip.
