2007 Post ASB MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 10:19 AM) I dunno... If Hamels continues what he did in his last outing (5 IP, 6 Ks), Philly is going to be tough. Their rotation isn't spectacular beyond Hamels but then again, whose is? ------------------- Webb vs Francis tonight. That's how I'll be starting off my weekend. Their bullpen is putrid as well. Trust me, I'd love to see the Phils advance but I think they're the weakest of all the playoff contenders. Beyond that, I guess we'll just see what happens, no point in really arguing it.

2007 Post ASB MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 10:05 AM) The Rockies have 11 wins in a row, but it looks likely it would take a sweep of Arizona and thus 14 in a row for them to get in, but heck with the way they are playing it wouldn't surprise me. Oh, and no way Philly gets murdered with that offense. None, and I think they'll get in with the choke the Mets are putting on. Also, looks like the NL West is in great shape to get that wild card, because I'd be shocked if San Diego doesn't at least win 2 out of 3 against the Brewers, and of course somebody has to win at least 2 of 3 in the Arizona/Colorado series. It doesn't matter how good their offense is, they'll be controlled in the playoffs. If Philly gets in, I highly doubt they win more than a game, if that.

Official Hate for the Milwaukee Brewers Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 09:35 AM) The Reds have said that they won't play Brandon Phillips much the rest of the way. Thus, they'd be missing their 4 best hitters. In some ways, it reminds me of 2003, when the Cubs made the playoffs due to facing a Reds team where D. Jimenez was their best hitter. The Brewers aren't going to beat the Pads 3 times anyways. If I were you, I'd just hope the Cubs don't face Philly in the first round.

2007 Post ASB MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 08:57 AM) OK, now it is Friday. 3 games remain for all the teams involved. There are still SEVEN teams in the National League who could make the playoffs, and NOT ONE has clinched a playoff birth. If you really love baseball, this is fun to watch, no matter who your favorite team is. I hope the Phils and/or Rockies get in. I think Colorado has a legit chance to make some noise in the playoffs, while I think the Phils would get murdered but still they have Rowand and Utley, so go Phils.

Grade the Sox
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 08:21 AM) Garland's 4.23 era makes me utterly shocked he's getting in the B's territory. He doesn't make the bank that he does to go out there and be 3 games under .500 with a 4.23. Oh yeah, FYI, he's under 100 k's on the entire season... (98) classic Jon. A 4.23 era with over 200 innings is pretty freakin good.

If the Sox would have missed the playoffs in 2005 would you be calling
They didn't. KW put together one of the best teams ever that year so it kind of changes things, don't you think?

Lance Broadway
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 28, 2007 -> 08:16 AM) Hey look... a reality check. A late September 6 inning start against a bunch of player in last place is not going to make me a believer. Yes, it's encouraging, but no, I don't think Lance is the second coming, and I fear his production over 32 starts would be in the "UH OH" territory. Well I didn't see the start but it sounds like people are more encouraged by the stuff that they saw compared to just the results. I don't think anyone is convinced of anything with Lance but he's another guy you can throw into the 5th starter hat for next season.

Lance Broadway
Well I didn't see him pitch tonight but he's going to have to do this a lot more and I need to see him pitch as well before I believe in the kid. But great start Lance.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 27, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) It won't happen, even though it makes so much sense. I couldn't believe more that Thome should be dealt this offseason. Oh, I don't think there is a chance in hell that it happens but that'd be a perfect scenario imo.

New Television season
South Park next wednesday. That's all that matters.

I want Barry Bonds in the Cell
Well Keith, good points but personally, I'd love to sign Bonds to dh and trade Thome for some young talent and a lot of it. Thome could be a great trade chip if we had someone who could actually take his place. Then we don't have to worry about the bad defense. Thome should be able to at least bring back two pretty good young players and while you made your team a bit older potentially for one season, you might have just added some future players to the mix. That's just a perfect scenario, imo.

Griese is better than Rex. How much better I'm not sure but he is indeed an upgrade.
