Garcia to Philly for Gavin Floyd and Gio Gonzalez
QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) I doubt very much if Floyd will be a starter. Bmac is a lock for the starting rotation IMO. No doubt Mac is going to start but if anything it can push Brandon a bit in spring training. A little competition is a good thing.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:51 AM) It doesn't look that bad, but on paper, it doesn't look incredibly shockingly amazing either, and that's the only complaint I think you can realistically have. With the decrease in Floyd's value, it just seems difficult to believe we couldn't talk the Phillies out of a little more. Just a little bit more. Garcia, Rowand, and Haigwood for Thome, Floyd, and $20 million or so. It's the health thing for me. I'm just not convinced he won't turn into a Prior/Liriano. But as good as our team has been at avoiding people with severe injury problems over the last few years, that seems like something we're good at, and I keep telling myself that they wouldn't actually reacquire Gio if they weren't convinced he could stay healthy. That's definitely a part of it.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:48 AM) I have a lot of trouble believing that our scouting department would be so bad to actually get Gio back without believing strongly he'd be the top of the line type guy. I love his arm, I really do. There is just something about him that makes me think he COULD turn out to be a complete bust, might just be a gut feeling but something doesn't sit great with me when it comes to Mr. Gonzalez. That being said, I could see him becoming a front line starter some day as well, we shall see. Hopefully both him and Floyd live up to their potential, wouldn't that be nice for a change?

I honestly believe that Floyd will be the best player in this deal. I'm still not sold on Gio, he just worries me though I do love the kids arm. With Gio I think you're either getting a top of the line starter or a complete bust, I really don't think there is going to be an inbetween.

Disturbing article about the Sox's plans
Calm down people. An article isn't going to destroy our team.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 12:04 AM) I'd just like to say that if the Sox do sign him (probably a 1 pct chance of this), I'll glady buy someone's season tickets from them if they want to stop rooting for the White Sox. Ha, you know I'd never be that type of fan. Anyways, I said I wouldn't comment but what the hell, here is what I just told R&W when he asked if I was opposed to Bonds: No, I never said I was opposed to Barry. Just a lot running through my mind with that. I dont think you could find a better offensive upgrade than Bonds but there definitely is a part of me that would have a hard time seeing Barry on the Sox. Thatt being said, I honestly would love it if it happened, it'd be tough for me to swallow if that makes sense but I want the Sox to succeed more than anything and he'd help.

I'm not even going to comment on the whole Bonds thing unless it does happen. A lot is going through my mind with that.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) I'm with you and Rowand44 on this one. I'm going to wait for this to pan out and then react. Nothing to get you're panties in a bunch for now. Sure, we all thought we could get more for Freddy, but we don't know the type of deals that were on the table or the real value that Freddy had. Relax, take a breath, and let's not throw away the next 3 seasons because we traded away 1 player. Oh I overreacted but I had a whole two games of bowling to calm down. I'm not happy about the return at all, thing is Freddy IS the pitcher I wanted to get rid of so that is what is keeping me semi calm. Also, I do think there is a decent chance that there is a 2nd part of this deal that comes to fruition tomorrow.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:39 PM) In the Rule 5?? I wouldn't count on us being stupid enough to let that happen. No, not in the rule 5. I just wouldn't be surprised that if once he's officially a member of the Sox he's shipped out somewhere else for an outfielder.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:27 PM) Didnt millers arbitration clock start based on the stunt they had to pull, promoting him due to some contract item that Boras put in. Yes sir.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:23 PM) Andrew Miller and Ledezma could be solid. I like Ledezma, Miller isn't going to be ready for a bit, no matter how quickly they want to rush him.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:19 PM) So, because the White Sox rotation decided to take a year off of baseball, the same thing will happen with the Tigers? No, but Kenny Rogers is going to start declining one day or another, I still don't think Robertson is a good pitcher, who knows how Maroth will come back and Zach Minor is a bum. The only two pitchers I'd have confidence in if I'm a Tigers fan are Bonderman and Verlander.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:15 PM) Not to mention that the Tigers have gotten considerably better with Sheffield. We seem to be moving laterally, if not slightly forward/backward. The Tigers are going to have some of the same problems with their rotation in 07 as we did in 06. There honestly wasn't/isn't that much out there to make this team better than it already was. If our pitching staff pitches close to what we expect then we're again the best team in the division. That all being said, we could have got more for Freddy and that's what pisses me off about this.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) We're all seeing the same thing. Mediocre K/9 numbers, bad numbers the past season or two. Floyd is a project. Kenny is certainly showing a lot of faith in Cooper here. Gonzalez is still pretty close, though, to a top pitching prospect. I know his ERA was right around four-and-a-half, but the K/9 numbers remain excellent, and he was still very young for his league. He's not in the league of a Pelfrey or a Bailey, but he's (IMO) in that next tier. We're getting two reasonably 'powerful' arms here. And $10 million bucks. Keith, what are we going to use the 10 mill on though? That was off the books next year anyways and right now there is absolutely nothing to make this team better in the free agent market.

QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:11 PM) Well I said both but never said BMAC should be in the rotation. I am not impressed with his hanging change up at all. So I really don't see how this trade made us better. We took a potential 18-20 game winner out of the rotation and received two guys who may not contribute at all. Who will make up for 18 wins? In addition, I just cannot understand why we couldn't wait a bit longer and gotten more in return. Thats my issue. We still have the same holes we had yesterday. Nothing else has changed, and yes we are a third place team. Two other teams were better last year, and we did not yet get stronger this year. Franciso Liriano=Nothing I guess.

QUOTE(quickman @ Dec 6, 2006 -> 11:06 PM) You don't know that. Its pure speculation with a young arm. And you don't know that he wont win 18 games next season.
