QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) He thinks he's someone that can get a major league contract. And last I remember a ML contract makes more than a minor league contract. Can you blame him? QUOTE(SnB @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 12:28 PM) ITS HIS TURN NOW! I made that same post and then deleted it.

Not really. Mostly because there are really no front line starters available. The Tigers can add to their offense, the Yankees and Sawx can as well and it won't bug me.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 10:46 AM) In Kalamazoo now, will be at the game tonight... Let's not suck Javy, i'm not driving 10 hours for nothing Woah, you live. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 06:01 AM) You only had to look at the Warthog rotation to start the season with Harrell, Russell, Whisler and Egbert to see that SP depth in our minor league system certainly isn't a problem at all, even without the likes of Gonzalez and Haigwood no longer there. Wes and Harrell both intrigue me a lot.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 01:42 AM) Umps won the game for the Yankees tonight...thanks jackasses. And that play wasn't even that close at first, I have no idea how the ump missed that.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 19, 2006 -> 03:19 AM) And this is in response to Flash's post about Anderson and his .200 stat line as well; Have a look at the guys who were drafted before BA; Delmon Young Rickie Weeks Kyle Sleeth Tim Stauffer Chris Lubanski Ryan Harvey Nick Markakis Paul Maholm John Danks Ian Stewart Michael Aubrey Lastings Milledge Aaron Hill Ryan Wagner Only 3 of those guys Weeks, Markakis and Maholm are currently in the major leagues along with BA. Someone like Ryan Harvey is majorly struggling down in A ball. BA's shown lately he does have what it takes to hit at this level, and the Torii Hunter comparisons are pretty spot on at this stage. I don't think you can really argue majorly about the Sox's drafting when the guys they have picked in the past few years have made it to the majors, or are doing very well in AA or AAA. At least you know they are going to make it instead of being a high risk - high reward type of draft pick that may never make it out of the major leagues. To me it doesn't even matter that Anderson is batting .200. He's made a ton of strides this year and has really improved. I had my doubts about Anderson because of the little hitch he has in his swing but I'm very confident now that he will be a solid major league player.

I'd much rather keep Lummy than Fields to be honest. Sweeney is a guy I do want to keep but I have no problem trading Josh if the price is right. Still, imo this is just Kenny trying to drive up the price of his players.

Have the Innings Caught Up With Buehrle?

Have the Innings Caught Up With Buehrle?

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) Please enlighten me. Was there a rather infamous thread on this already? Ha ya, don't worry about. You weren't around when the thread made it's debut but it's probably one of the more famous threads in this site's history. "The Rise and Decline of Mark Buehrle," or something along those lines. I believe it was in early 04 and Mark was struggling and a thread pretty similar to this, about all the innings he's pitched early in his career and so on. That thread lived forever and seemingly got bumped everytime he pitched poorly that season. -
Have the Innings Caught Up With Buehrle?
Rowand44 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:39 PM) IIRC, Mark has said that he feels really good. I'd buy the dead arm theory if it looked like his stuff wasn't there. He seems to be throwing about the same as always, the only difference is teams have been real agressive against him all while he's left his pitches up. He fixes his command and makes an adjustment or two and he should be golden to be the Buerhle we've all came to expect. Everything is just up with him. Every time he throws his change up right now, it's up and away to righties and way out of the zone. Buehrle will be fine, he's really the least of my worries. -

Uh oh. This thread looks very familiar. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) Boston doesn't seem to use it as much and I wasn't aware of the Yanks using it. But ya, Depodesta used it sucessfully, but it doesn't hurt when you have Ortiz and Manny in the middle of that lineup and at the time a pair of aces like Schilling and Pedro. Depodesta huh? I can argue this stuff all night but I'll agree with Sabr and just let it be because I've had these arguments way too often.

QUOTE(SABR Sox @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) He was simply unlucky at the beginning of the season. His BABIP was crazy high, now its starting to go down a bit, as a result so are his H/9 and ERA. Good stretch here Jon. That's because he was getting smoked at the beginning of the season, it wasn't bad luck.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 10:12 PM) I could see the hate since he was a suckfest early on, but really if this year had gone according to plan with the staff, Jon is our 5 starter, or maybe our 4 ahead of Vasquez. He's paid a lot, but it costs a lot of pitching right now, even a good 4 guy like Garland. He's overpaid, but all pitching worth a damn (and some not worth a damn) is. I could see why people were hating on Garland, however most (a few exceptions, like yourself) simply refuse to give him credit, even when he is pitching well. To be honest, I'm not one of those fans who's freaking out about his contract. I think he'll be worth it(in the current market) when all is set and done. There are also the people who feel we have way to much money spent on our starters and Jon is obviously part of that. For me, Kenny could use all of the teams money on pitching and I'd be perfectly happy. I was just letting you know the reason that I believe Jon has been more hated on than most players by Sox fans, though Freddy does seem to have become the new whipping boy for now.
-
The reason Garland received all of the criticism is because he had one really good year, signed a big contract and then goes and starts off the year poorly. Buehrle has been a number 1-2 starter for us year in and year out, Freddy has proven himself to be a real good pitcher in his career and as for Javy he was actually having a real solid season until basically his last 5 starts and he also has had more than one real good season in his career(in the national league though). Jon has a great year after many average years, signs a big contract and just comes out of the gate pitching horrible. When that happens you're going to alienate some fans.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:52 PM) It means that right now, Jon is our 2nd best starter Tis the truth.

He's got a big head.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Isn't Coffey the closer? There is no way the Reds are about to deal there closer plus there only legit front line pitching prospect for a guy like Garcia. It wouldn't be a bad move for the Sox but they wouldn't be getting much to help them this year, unless they were planning on spinning Coffey and/or Bailye to another team to fill a need. I can't see us matching up with the Reds. Guardado has been closing since he got traded there. Definitely agree with this. Both teams are looking for pitching help and I just don't see anything even plausible to work out with the Reds.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 09:16 PM) Another thing I'd like to see is the team look a bit more at guys arms. They go the safe route a lot, and I dno't have a problem with that, but I'd also like to see some guys with high ceiling arms. Of course thats easier said than done since I realize those type of arms don't grow on trees and usually they are high level picks. I think as of late, the Sox have drafted some guys who are safer picks because they'll probably get through the minors quickly and they're value will be higher, quicker. With the way Kenny does things, I do believe that is one reason they go with the "safe" pick. Maybe I'm completely off, but it does seem to make a bit of sense.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) By Justin Udany After getting swept by the Yankees and seeing their wild card lead dip to three games, the Sox will head into Comerica Park for a battle with first place Detroit. The Sox come into this series facing their biggest divisional deficit of the year at 4.5 games and they really need a strong showing to get things going back on the right track. Luckily for the Sox, they have their two hottest starting pitchers at the moment pitching in this series, in Jon Garland and Jose Contreras. Read More... One more win and we prove this moron wrong...
