QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) (1) Schmidt did not pitch well at all last season and only has one "ace"-type season and two "good" seasons under his belt. I'm not convinced that he's going to be a super-hot commodity on the market. Schmidt has only had one bad season since he's been on the Giants. That was last season because he was injured through out. He'll be a huge commodity on the market.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 17, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) I still fair dem pesky Indians, they're laying in the weeds right now just plotting their takeover of the AL Central. That's where my bragging rights come from this year I guess. I knew Cleveland would suck... -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 03:11 PM) Twins by far. I've said this a lot but the Tigers will be tucked away in 4th by the allstar break, they won't finish within 15 games of the Sox. -
This team needs more Brandon McCarthy.

I didn't take an AP class in high school. So take that.

By Justin Udany After getting swept by the Yankees and seeing their wild card lead dip to three games, the Sox will head into Comerica Park for a battle with first place Detroit. The Sox come into this series facing their biggest divisional deficit of the year at 4.5 games and they really need a strong showing to get things going back on the right track. Luckily for the Sox, they have their two hottest starting pitchers at the moment pitching in this series, in Jon Garland and Jose Contreras. Read More...

So in other words: Kenny is working on something involving one of our starters.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) No one knew he would be THIS good, THIS fast. He was the 38th overall pick. He was still a big time prospect, one of the biggest in baseball...

QUOTE(valponick @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) I disagree, the numbers of an "ace" and a #5 shouldn't be so similar. Difference in era is more than a full run. Oh, and another thing....Buehrle has a brain. EDIT: And if we're talking about their careers, Mark's era is over a half run better when he's been pitching the AL his whole career and Javy has been pitching in the NL for most of his.

Garcia/Vazquez for Tom Gordon being discussed
Rowand44 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) How about Ryan Sweeney and Javy Vazquez for Tom Gordon and Aaron Rowand? How about Aaron stays in Phili. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 05:32 PM) Didn't widger go yard against RJ last year? I'm desperate to feel good about him playing tonight. ozuna looked awful at the plate last weekend. hope that was just a glitch...and not a return to form. Yes he did, on a fastball at his eyes. -
QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) one bad outing and he is a fluke? and the Twins record against Central teams is brutal He was just being sarcastic.

QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:14 PM) The funny thing is is that Wright wasn't even that huge of a prospect. Oh yes he was.

Probably Lummy in 08.

QUOTE(Contreras @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) Lots of SBs does not a leadoff hitter make. Look at Kevin Youkilis. It's all about the OBP. Iguchi at leadoff wouldn't be a significant downgrade from Podsednik. Neither would Milledge version 2007, in all likelihood. Eh, I'm not getting into this argument now. I'll stick with the thread and just say that as talented as Milledge is, for right now Flash is more important...obviously.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) How would our team look to you in 2007 with Lastings Milledge starting in LF instead of Scott Podsednik? Pretty odd with out a leadoff hitter. Milledge is one hell of a talent but Flash would definitely be more of a boost to this team than Lastings.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:25 AM) I'm shocked that Garcia' stock has hit rock bottom amongst fans. It hasn't hit rock bottom as he can still bring in some decent value. That being said, he isn't going to bring in one of the best hitting prospects in baseball. It's just not happening.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) If the Mets really coveted him, he would have been traded to them in the offseason. I don't know about that, the Dbacks got a pretty damn good return for Javy. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) If the Mets thought they could change Victor Zambrano into a prize, they certainly think the same about Freddy Garcia? No? Different gm.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:15 AM) I'd rather have either of the two out of the pen than Gordon... Wow. :headshake

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:05 AM) And somehow in a similar situation last year, McCarthy was inches away from being shipped to the Marlns. Thats baseball. The White Sox couldn't rely on Hernandez in the fifth slot, needed some offense aswell, and almost got rid of there best prospect because of it. Thankfully they did not, but Omar Minaya's track record isn't as lucky, ala: June 27, 2002: Traded by the Cleveland Indians with Tim Drew to the Montreal Expos for Lee Stevens, Brandon Phillips, Cliff Lee, and Grady Sizemore. I like how you won't believe the Milledge stuff that you read but you believe that Bmac was inches away from being shipped to Florida.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:11 AM) I'm sniffing a deal with Philly... Freddy and something for Flash and Crash No Aaron. He needs to stay in Phili.
-
QUOTE(G&T @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) The Sox response to the trade rumors involving Gordon is that "they won't respond to every trade rumor"...which IMO is a bit different than their usual "No, we won't do that." That's usually an indication that something is afoot. This is reported by the Score. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Ya, that's shady.

Garcia/Vazquez for Tom Gordon being discussed
Rowand44 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) I understand BMac is better than Armas. But if Armas could eat some innings, it would save Bmac the trouble of stretching out, possibly getting hurt. And the sox would still need another bullpen arm who could go 2 innings at a time during crunch time if Bmac goes to the rotation. I really don't think it would take that long for Bmac to get stretched out. He just piched 4 innings 5 days and you give him about 2 starts in aaa and he should be ready to go. I don't want Tony Armas starting for the Sox when he's just going to get completely rocked. Anyways, the point of this trade would be to obviously get bullpen help but to also allow Brandon to start. -
QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) Isn't part of Vazquez' 2007 salary also covered? Also, Podsednik will be given his walking papers, IMO. Yes. Pods will have to be traded if he's not on the 07 squad as he still has a year or two of arbitration left.
