Springer nails Bonds, Fans appluad
QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:20 PM) The beanball has been around for centuries. The mindset that we should forego throwing at players is yet another step in the wussification of baseball. From not pitching to certain hitters (pre-"Holy s***, my steroid advantage is gone" Bonds, Pujols, et al.) just because they can get a HR possibly to looking down at hard slides/take out slides -- hitters everywhere have to abide by fake rules that prevent them from playing as hard as they can and policing on the field, in house style. Pitchers lose an important tool in their arsenal, one that brushes players back from crowding the plate. In the age where hitters get to wear arm gear so large it could have its own Congressman, the ability to pitch inside has been greatly negated. Hitting batters is also a way to police within the game. It sends a message to the other team that certain s*** won't be tolerated. This 'old school' formula has worked for years. Why should pitchers be forced to lose a tool in their arsenal that they and their team believe is necessary and has worked for decades to effectively deal with issues on the field? I said it before and I'll say it again. If Bonds didn't like it, Springer was just 60 feet away. The only reason any of it is different now is that we have the media overanalyzing the issues and shoving them down our throats. I swear, if we had ESPN back in the deadball era, you'd see "Should Cobb Be Suspended for 10 games for going spikes up into a slide? Harold Reynolds and John Kruk parrot the same goddamn opinion for 20 minutes!" While informative for scores, injury reports, trades/roster moves, sports media by and far has become a tool where a relatively minor issue (i.e. Springer throwing at Bonds) gets blown up to gigantic proportions all because Bonds is a cheating, steroid abusing tool. It is just another step towards the 'sanitization' of baseball. Soon enough, the players will be sitting in group therapy talking about their inner children and their feelings instead. Christ, a douchebag who deserved it got hit by a douchebag. That was it. The pitcher isn't saying he is innocent and is willing to serve his impending suspension. End of story. For all those saying that this is going to 'disgrace' baseball -- if baseball can survive gambling scandals like the Black Sox, the events of Pete Rose, numerous fights/beanballs/brawls and numerous racist/dirty players (i.e. Cobb), it sure as Hell can survive just one more plunking. Wait, let me get this straight...throwing a baseball at someone because they're mean doesn't sound like a pussy to you? Fine, Bonds charges the mound, a bunch of people jump in and overall absolutely nothing happens. Sounds more like a pussy to me to throw a baseball at someone and have your whole team backing that guy up. His problem with Bonds has nothing to do with baseball, you have a problem with him then take it out, outside the park, but I assume he's too big of a pussy to do that.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 17, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) Not so much, tiger. While it wasn't to the head, my reaction to Pierzynski being beaned was "I love it." I love the beanball. I think it's an important part of baseball. If a Sox hitter is hit, by all means. That's a side of baseball, and a valuable one. Hit someone right back. Or charge the mound. ::shrug:: You have no f***in clue what you're talking about if you think getting hit in the head is part of baseball. Go watch a different sport, cause that is so false.

Bonds is a meany so we should throw at his head and take the risk of ending his career.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 17, 2006 -> 09:03 PM) The TRUTH about the White Sox farm system lies somewhere between this article and whatever Flash/Quick have to say. ^^^

What are the Odds?
To answer the question in the title, 0. I'd love to have the guy but it's not happening.

Farnsworth
He does have a very good arm, I do remember that, but that's about all I remember about him.

Vazquez tipping his pitches....
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 14, 2006 -> 12:20 PM) I think it's pretty damn obvious what Javier's problem was yesterday, WIDGER. That f***er just brings out the worst in Vazquez, I know what you're going to say Widger did not catch Javy yesterday that was Pierz!!11 Think about it though Ozzie gets tossed and suddenly Javier gets lit up, coincidence? I think not. I believe Pierz was getting his pitches called from the dugout and once Ozzie got tossed Widger took over the pitch calling. Hence the suckassness displayed by vazquez alst night. Kill Widger. lmao, you rock man.

Crash Breaks Nose
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ May 12, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) Not me. Theoretically, if you were to give him a steady diet of low-and-away breaking balls, he woule be toast. But I don't watch Phillies games on a regular basis, so maybe he learned how to hit a breaking ball this offseason. Yes and there is a good reason why Aaron has done much better this year. The majority of Aaron's ab's have been from the 2 hole and with murderers row behind him he's been seeing much more fastballs then when he was batting 6th or 7th for us last year.

Rowand's hustle still appreciated
QUOTE(RX Bandits @ May 13, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) I have a bone to pick with pretty much all of soxtalk. I loved Aaron as much as everybody else. Yet lets not kid ourselves, Aaron was an average player. Without Thome we would have been screwed with first couple weeks. I am not saying anyone in this thread said "Thome sucks I want Rowand back" but never have I seen such love for a player because he was a nice guy. Aarons defense in CF was awesome, but Brian Anderson HAS played a GREAT CF. Now that I said it...grill me on it. There's a ton of reasons why Aaron was so loved here: the way he plays, the kind of guy he was, how much he loved playing for the sox, etc. I miss Aaron as much as anyone but if anyone regrets that trade then they need to be slapped upside the head.

QUOTE(SnB @ May 13, 2006 -> 01:07 PM) literally getting paid to watch baseball and yell at kids. Should be awesome. Shouldn't Brian get paid when he watches baseball with you?? It's basically the same thing as you just described.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 13, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Contract year dude. Now that he got his money he's back to his old form. We all talked about the possibility of this happening. When did Jon ever have an era at almost 7?? This is a bad stretch as of right now, he's not all the sudden back to his old form...oh ya, since when was last year his contract year?
-
Garland
The problem with the Garland-Loaiza comparison is that Jon was a solid pitcher before he had his great year, last year. He might not be the Jon of 05 when all is set and done but he surely isn't going to be this bad either.
