  1. Who is Little, one of the starters for Charlotte tonight? Did I miss a move?
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Mostly because they were NDs biggest rival for while, and I HATE ND. To me they are the Yankees of the NCAA. When was Miami a big rival of ND? I remember Florida St. several years ago, but can't recall any thing with Miami.
  3. Notre Dame already has Zach Frazer, a higher rated QB signed. I don't see where getting an option QB is such a great catch fotop. What am I missing?
  4. I have my doubts anyone from AA will get called up to Chicago when the rosters expand. As talented as this team is in terms of prospects, keep in mind that it is also relatively young, at least in terms of experience. I think you have already seen the lone callup from AA in Bobby Jenks.
  5. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 06:29 AM) Tom, I assume Haeger just throws a knuckler and a fastball? Or does he mix in a curveball, a la Tim Wakefield? And, how hard does his fastball normally clock in at? Tom, correct me if I am wrong, but all I saw tonight was a 73-74mph fastball and a knuckleball around 60-63.
  6. I'll chime in on Owens a bit. Dbaho, I was doubtful the first few times I saw him play, but the more I see him, the more I like him. I have also talked to a few people about him and they all spoke very highly of his makeup and work ethic. He works hard, is very coachable and understands his role. I think the biggest difference between Owens and Spidale is that Michael had his big year in AA last year in his 5th professional season. Owens is doing it in his 2nd (he only played in 2 games in 2003). Owens is a year older, but he is much less experienced having spent some of his time on the football field. Owens will still have to get it done next year or he could fall back to AA again. If I were to hedge a bet, I'd guess Owens has a better shot at making the bigs by a fair margin.
  7. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) Barons 6 Huntsville 0 W- Haeger CG (5-1) L-Habel Wow Charlie Haeger was outstanding when he got behind in the counts he could still pitch out of them. Many of the Huntsville batters after there AB were over threw the helmets in frusteration. The 5 Stars hits 3 were broken bat bloops and infield singles. Chris Young out of the leadoff spot drew 4 walks had a very contested steal of 3rd and scored 3 times. Darren Blakely had a 3-3 night 2 run Bomb and RBI double and RBI single. Haeger was good tonight. Never having seen a knuckleballer up close, I really have nothing to base a comparison or opinion on how good he can be. Can he be a Major Leaguer? I have no earthly idea. That is why it is fun watching him pitch. The best thing about Young tonight was watching him fly around the bases and score from 1B on a double down the LF line. He also went back and got a ball in CF that I thought was over his head. He plays a very shallow CF and isn't afraid to go back to get it.
  8. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 04:55 AM) I just think this kid is ridiculous. They wont even let him throw his nastiest pitch (slider) because they dont want to risk injury. Well being the #2 prospect in baseball indicates he is pretty ridiculous. Saying he should be #1 over Delmon Young is like saying you like apples better than oranges, but you really like both. They are both elite players. One man's opinion over whether to rate a position player higher than a pitcher shouldn't raise anyone's eyebrows.

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 06:18 AM) The "good" news. He'll be 21 when she gets out and too old for her. She got 9 months, not 9 years..........
  10. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 05:49 AM) I knew the list was a f***ing joke when King Felix was number 2. What's the problem with Felix at #2? I see nothing wrong with that at all.
  11. I can't bunt worth a crap either (could with no probs on 2004) but my buddy who I play most games with drops at least one bunt for a hit on me every time we play. asshole! Hit like a man, I say!
  12. Why are you not interning with the Sox or the Angels??
  13. hey man, one bit of advice....... regardless of what it says on your Good Faith Estimates, expect $500 of surprises at closing. Set the money aside. If you get lucky and everything goes as planned, then you have bonus money in your pocket. But expediting fees and other miscellaneous fees are quite common. It's no fun being surprised at closing, trust me. Congrats! Now watch how fast you spend money once you move in. Grip it tight because it will just seem to fly out of your hands magically at times.
  14. Nice comeback by Honel after a horrid last outing.... Nice night by Young, including his 35th double, just 4 shy of the Barons season record set by some guy named Ordonez.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) Ya, he throws a cutter. He considers it a big reason for his improvement this season. I'll have to watch him a little closer next time. The last time I saw him, he didn't need a cutter as he was blowing fastballs right by Johnny Damon.
  16. OK, MSF, I'll share with everyone. Here were my remarks on another Sox board after Haigwood's start last week when he paired up with Braves hot prospect Chuck James: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On last night's game...... Last night was the first time I saw Haigwood. I really, really liked what I saw. I wanted to make Buehrle comparisons, but I am not sure that is fair. But what the heck, let's do a little comparison anyway. Haigwood throws upper 80's topping out right at 90. His fastball didn't have a ton of life on it, but it definitely was not straight. It had enough jump that he could get inside on righties without getting burned. Haigwood mixed in a few changeups that were good, but not outstanding. His real strength are his breaking balls. He throws both a curveball (12-6, sometimes 1-7) and a slider. Both have serious bite and are PLUS pitches. He buckled knees a couple of times with the curveball last night, even a righty or two. He twisted one LH MBraves hitter into a pretzel on one. It seems as if he throws it more 12-6 to a RH and 1-7 to a LH. His command was solid and you could just tell he was a "pitcher" and was under control on the mound. The only run he gave up was on a hot smash that Rogo could not grab (tough play) that would have gotten him out of the inning. I believe he struck out 5 of his first 6 batters. It was just one outing, but if he is not claimed, add Haigwood officially to "my guy" list! On the flip side, Chuck James of Mississippi was very good also. He got it up to 91-92 and his pitches seemed hard to pick up. It seemed like they were on the hitter before he was expecting it. His breaking ball doesn't rank with Haigwood's but he throws a little harder, has a nice changeup and has that sneakiness about him. It was fun to watch to nice pitchers battle it out. From that same game: On Malone.... He was working in the high 80's last night and was kind of all over the place. He threw two good breaking balls, but they started so low and broke into the dirt, it was hard to really tell if they had the snap it used to have. He got a swing and a miss on both, so I am giving it the benefit of the doubt. The one thing that did impress me though, was one at bat. He had guys on 1B and 3B (might have been 2B and 3B) with one out and fell behind the next hitter 1-0. He promptly threw three straight changeups all for strikes to strike the guy out. The Corwin of old used to resist Curt Hasler's (frmr pitching coach) attempts to throw more changes and pitch more and throw less. He probably threw 6 or 7 changeups in his two innings, which is about double what he used to throw in a whole start. That in itself is progress.
  17. Sept 10 - Ohio St vs. Texas..... Let's do it now!!!
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) Thanks for your permission, Rex. Do you know what his full repitoire is Rex? I figured you'd know as well as anyone. Fastball, curveball and change from what I can tell. I don't see him enough these days to know if he has added a cut fastball.
  19. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Hart + Henne=Success Brian, if the game (NCAA Football 2006) is any indicator, look out for Kevin Grady in a couple of years. He turns into an absolute beast by his JR year in the game. He may even push Hart as early as next year.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2005 -> 05:39 PM) Cotts has a curveball that isn't in the game. Add it
  21. QUOTE(bmags @ Aug 6, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) i do get tired of the media coverage of this... i have no idea what is the standards for making a specific kidnapping or murder a sexy case for the media... although it usually has to do with them being a young white female. (peterson trial, holloway, jean benet ramsey) Two things are driving this story in the news...... 1. Her family (who are doing pretty much the same thing I would do if it were someone in my family) 2. The fact that a teenage girl disappears in another country that happens to be a popular vacation spot for Americans. To think that doesn't have a lot to do with why this is such a big issue is naive. This case is important to any American who may potentially travel to Aruba and to the Aruban people and their economy. The bottom line is that we now have a 24-hour a day news cycle. This gives us up-to-the-minute, breaking news on anything and everything in the world. It also unfortunately, requires news agencies to fill their stations 24 hours a day. This in itself causes overkill on certain cases. It turns newscasts into rumor mills at times. Some things are reported, only to be discredited or recanted the very next day. Like it or not, it comes with the territory. This is the society we live in. So I again suggest turning the channel. If you turn the channel to multiple news channels all at the same time and the same story is on, then there has to be a reason. Unless there was some piece of breaking news on the case at the time, I don't believe that there were no other options. It just doesn't make sense. I just find it ridiculous to blame the victim and call her names. Ignorant of the details of the case or not, it IS insensitive and in my mind, classless.
  22. Ummm what the hell are you referring to?
  23. All I have to add is that after reading three pages of this drivel, I am shaking my head..... If you don't like what is on TV, turn the f***ING channel!! Nuke, I can't recall reading anything as classless as this. It saddens me that you would take your time to call someone a dumb b****, a whore and whatever else, that you have never met and know nothing about other than what the media has reported about one weekend of her life. In all honesty, it makes me sad that someone is one, that insensitive about others and two, has nothing better to do than post such opionions on a message board.
  24. QUOTE(BHAMBARONS @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 04:27 AM) Mississippi 2 Barons 0 W-Smith (9-1) L- Haigwood (2-1) What a pitching performance tonight Chuck James is the real deal and will be an Atlanta Brave soon. James is by far and away the best pitching prospect in the SL this year with a big time breaking ball that made a lot of our good hitters look horrible. Right with him pitch for pitch was Haigwood who had a dominting breaking pitch as well it was very unfortunate that his only run was given up on a Antoin Gray Error who the inning before failed to drive in a run from third with one out. Jerry Owens had an awsome game 3-4 and was robbed of an RBI single on a great diving catch by Onil Joseph. I'll be honest with you, I liked Haigwood better last night. James was good, no doubt. He throws a little harder and his ball seems hard to pick up and seems to get on top of the hitter before he knows it. But I liked Haigwood's poise and command equally as well and I really liked Haigwood's breaking ball last night. It was the first time I had seen him, but I came away quite impressed.
  25. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:34 PM) What I'm curious about is this. You're allowed to take out the catcher more than you're allowed to take out other fielders because he basically wears armor. But on that play, the pitcher was covering home plate. Would Rollins have been allowed to take him out with the full force available to him? Edit: Pretend it wasn't a force. If the pitcher was blocking the plate yes.....
