barons box score for yesterday...
I wouldn't be so fast to discount some of the position players in Class A. There are just no position players in AA even masquerading (sp?) as prospects.

Winston-Salem Breaks Out
In all honesty, I think they are just happy to have a coach. I think they are all still pretty much in shock after having gone through Franchione and price in such a short period of time. They don't know what to think.

Top Prospect Alert
It is obvious these guys didn't do their homework if they still have Corwin in the Top 10. And Danny Sandoval a prospect? Who are Thomas Collaro and Chris Young?? No mention of Ring? Still using yan's old name? How old is this drivel?

barons box score for yesterday...
Well, baggs, I decided to go ahead and answer you here since after thinking about it for a minute and looking at some numbers to back up my thoughts, the answer came up NO. The only guy that could be considered a prospect would be Guillermo Reyes and it is hard to figure him to be one based on his start. I am not only talking about numbers, but the fact that he opened the season not even playing the position at which he was thought to be a prospect. He is only hitting .204 and has played just 16 of his 26 games at SS. He walks about once every 10 AB's which isn't bad, but is certainly not great for a speed guy and especially for one only hitting around .200. He is hitting .187 in 76 at bats against righties, so hitting from the left side isn't his strength. Last year he was .330 RH and .265 LH. All that said, he is in AA and is only 21 years old. He has pretty good speed (30 SB in 2002) and has been solid defensively from what I have seen. The current problem is that he is on the DL with a knee injury so it is unsure how long he will be out. Knee injuries do not mix well with SS/speed guys. Other than that, I don't see any other position players on the Barons roster that are prospects unless you count Gabe Alvarez. The only problem with counting him is that he was a prospect in 1997 and 1998, not 2003.

I'll start a new thread on this one, if you don't mind.........

JOE COWLEY RIPS kw TO SHREDS!!!..PLAYERS TOO
KW was hired on Schueler's recommendation based on KW's expertise with the minor leagues - KW didn't work out - My understanding is that Schu actually thought Evans should get the job, but that KW was Reinsdorf's boy. I know KW was Reinsdorf's guy, but not sure about Schu recommending Evans. I did hear that, however.

Player Development
Actually, the GM is a lot less involved in the drafting of players than you think. KW was more involved before he became GM.

barons box score for yesterday...
Damn HSC, a day late again.... Am I going to have to take over? ;-) On a technical note...... I think you have to put your on the next line after the end of the box info. Not sure, but try it tonight and see if that doesn't work. On a baseball note.... Yofu on the hill Sunday for the Barons.

Minor League Announcement
I think the Minors can be kept on the same board in similar fashion as we do now. I would suggest that when a Minor League topic is created, it is labeled as such, which would help identify it a little better for those that look for that info and for those that want to skip by it. Or, you could just start one discussion on Minor Leagues and allow the conversations to skip around within that dicsussion. I'm sure there would be enough people posting to keep it going so it never gets buried on page 3.

JOE COWLEY RIPS kw TO SHREDS!!!..PLAYERS TOO
you people need to stop fantasizing and pretending youre in the know, and just be a fan. K? It sucks not being "in the know" huh?

Anthony Sanders?
Anthony Sanders is a AAA guy, nothing more. Cliff Brumbaugh was a free agent signing who was in Colorado Springs (Rockies AAA) last year. Another AAA minor league vet. Alex Fernandez is not missed by the Sox. Alex had a great 1st half for the Barons last year, but was never a major league caliber prospect. He doesn't have much power and doesn't walk at all. He walked 13 times in 489 at bats last year and has only walked 4 times in 99 AB's this year. He is also not a CF.

barons box score for tonite....
Cotts threw 97 pitches in 5 innings. It was the second straight outing he approached 100 pitches in only 5 innings. He definitely goes too deep into counts. He has good stuff but still needs to change his approach. If he is to improve (and I think he will) you'll see less strikeouts, but less walks also. I think you will see him in AA all year.

JOE COWLEY RIPS kw TO SHREDS!!!..PLAYERS TOO
I was told end of this week. When I asked "Friday? Saturday? Sunday..?" I was told "before Monday". That would coincide with the end of this roadtrip right? Seems to make sense. A little birdie told me that Ward will be gone soon. That would probably coincide with KW's firing, one might think. Still not sure about JM. How often do you see a GM, Manager and Hitting Coach all axed at the same time?? Seems like a bit much to me. My guess is if KW and GW go, JM gets a reprieve for at least 2 more weeks.

Joey B
Wrist injuries can and usually do sap your power. I had a friend that had a similar wrist problem a few years ago and never went on the DL, played 113 games, yet had by far his worst power year of his career. That year he hit 8 HR in 113 games. The previous five years, all in AAA, his HR totals were 17, 13, 18, 18 and 21 the year before the injury. That kind of wrist injury will only go away with a long period of rest, yet it does not keep you from being able to play. I would definitely chalk up Joe B's lack of power to the wrist injury. we'll he did only have one before it. The point is, since the injury is more of the nagging variety, he could have been having problems long before we knew him to be injured. Tendonitis is not something that just appears one day out of the blue. It is not like a pulled hamstring where one day you are fine, the next your hammy is black and blue.

From now on
Did I miss a thread? Where was KW trying to trade Frank discussed?

I wish they would announce it
Maybe they should do it now, since Jesse Jackson has his head buried up the University of Alabama's President "encouraging" him to hire a black head coach. Not exactly sure what business of his it is, but then again, is it ever his business?

VIP Gathering at the Hoover Met
rumors now are KW didnt make the oakland trip...this is getting goood.. i know this..eddie einhorn and danny evans are lkinda close...wonder whats in the works??? My guess is nothing. I joked with Danny tonight asking him if coming back was a reunion or if he was coming back to the Sox. He laughed and referred to LA as the place he wants to be now. I'd certainly welcome it. But I don't think teams take another team's GM during the season. Would that be unprecedented?
