Heres the thing ...... Do we want this particular team, playing the way they are, in the playoffs? Certainly not. We only have 2 consistent starters, 2 consistent hitters who can change the game for you(Dye/Pods), and at best 3 decent pitchers in the bullpen. Thats not getting us far in the playoffs. Not at all. This nonsense of giving up 10 hits a game, bullpen follies, resulting in a team ERA around the 5's will not a division win. I was called "off the wall" for suggesting it, but we know the offense cannot be counted on to score 10 runs every nite. We should be a game out, but just cant put it all together. I really hope the bullpen and the#4 and #5 Starter is addressed in the offseason. Sleepy and Stretch are also on the money

Ive been saying this all season. Pods needs glasses.

Vazquez. Brutal.

One thing Ive noticed about "good posters" personally, are that they are almost always good Conversation starters and can keep conversations going in real life. Theyre easy to talk to and always approachable.
-
I would have to say a Good poster, brings up something daily, that encourages dialogue. A good poster is someone who can add something to a thread started by someone else, and of course the good poster often makes a point others may not have thought of. Bad posters would be people who rip other posters viewpoints, simply because they dont agree Bad posters usually dont have their own thoughts about a subject and are quick to judge. sums it up I think

Yes, A number of "yankee" fans behind me yesterday, were actually Cub fans. They did a lot of trashtalking about the SOX, the stadium, the Ivy, the fans, Attendance (hahahah, I said attendance) and the like. After chatting with these guys a while, and realizing they werent too bright, and didnt really have any knowledge of the Yankees (I mentioned Abreu is probably staying/Sheffield gone/bullpen not that good outside Rivera/what are their feelings) when I realized these Jokers were Cub fans pretending to be Yankee fans. The best part though, was this notion with these guys that tried to tie everything Cub with everything Yankee. I tell them SURE, theyre just like the Yankees, minus the 26 Championships, heh heh heh. I was insulted for the Yankee fans really ...............

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:18 AM) With a lot of games against teams with winning records and the comeback last night...this is something to keep in mind. I'm not saying we'll catch the Tigers, but we could pull away from the wild card pack. I hope this is a sign of things to come for sure, but like G&T said, the numbers might be skewed a bit

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:30 AM) Macowiak: my God, man, is there anything you can't bobble in CF? heh heh. I got to the game just after that happened. I went to my seat and my buddy Chris was glaring towards CF.

I was a big critic of Jermaine Dye early in 05 (when he was hitting .200). Though I dont agree with him being selected WS MVP (my vote is Crede), Jermaine Dye has continued his excellent gamesmanship and he hasnt given away any At-Bats. There are those who say Thome is the MVP so far, and those who say Dye should be the MVP. I would have to say Dye also, but I also think that Thomes mere presence in the lineup has caused Jermaine Dyes game to step up a few notches. Not sure how I would rule on this one, but Keep it Up Jermaine.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:08 AM) Hangar, the thing is, you know the truth. Stop trying to protect your, ahem, integrity. so Jim thinks hes got the goods on me, that I was a "cub" fan until recently. ba hahahaha hahhaahaha. Dont make me laugh. I can assure everyone here, and everyone thats ever known me, Ive been a life-long, die hard Chicago White Sox fan since birth. Jims just doing his best Mariotti/Kiley impersonation by planting this "truth" out there. So yeah, im protecting my "integrity" so to speak.

QUOTE(Felix @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) Should that stop them from wearing their favorite teams gear? I don't think so. Ive had Numerous Stupid Cub Fan Moments this season (I dont talk about them, Jim will get mad) but what ive found this season is pretty unique. Numerous "cub" fans are jumping off the Cub wagon and "going back" to being Tiger fans. In talking to some of these people, I told them there was nothing wrong with being a Tiger fan, and they shouldnt have abandoned them just because they moved here and took up with an even worse team. Their excuses were all pretty much the same (Wrigley is closer/Heard the games were more fun/Heard the park was cool/the cubs are a better team etc etc) I told every single one of them, to stick with their team, the Tiggers havnt been that bad, and theyve got a great new park, and the play in the AL is so much better including this very division.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 09:01 AM) I occassionally go to the Urinal with my Cubs fan friends. I always make sure I'm sporting something with White Sox on it, even if the Sox aren't playing, just so the people in the stands know I'm smarter than them. same here. I was offered Cardinals Cub tickets, and I originally said YES id go, only if something else didnt come up, that series just isnt as "epic" as AT&T makes it out to be. That and the idea of watching 9 innings of bad, NL baseball wasnt too appealing, as well as sitting among a bunch of sheep out to have a good time and drink overpriced beer. I think I ended up doing some laundry and cleaning the apartment up if Im not mistaken. Last nite was pretty funny. A group of "yankee" fans sat behind me, and among them was one lone cub fan. He poked fun at the "attendance" (hahahaahah, I said Attendance!) and made all the Usual Stereotypical comments about the SOX and their fans that you've hear in the Media. Theyre comments were all things Ive heard before, and I reminded them that everything they blurted out, was all nonsense that these jokers have read before. Well, after chatting with these guys, it became apparent they really werent too bright and I asked them were they REALLY Yankee fans? Nope. Cub fans wrapping themselves in the Yankee cloak. All of them. (didnt know how many Championships the Yankees had/Incorrectly stated the Cubs had 5 Championships/Wrigley 1st team to introduce Ivy!!!!!!!!!!/Sox still wont get 2 million this season etc)
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 11:37 AM) Why do the Sox need to go 18-2 in their next 20? That is totally unrealistic. To win the Division. Im still basing things on trying to win the division

Anyone peruse todays Garbage Trib articles?

QUOTE(YASNY @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 03:55 AM) No. It was started and coordinated by some guy in Oakland. during a football game. What made the article ridiculous, was the fact that Cub fans doing the Wave on Sunday prompted the article. Like its never been done in Chicago before, or elsewhere for that matter. -
QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:36 AM) What would you know about it anyways, I'm told you were a Cub fan until recently. flipflop, flipflop. I comprehend fully. My post stated exactly what I comprehend. Unfortunately for you, my comprehension is shared by many. What's the first thing you do, fire on me. I wonder if you can comprehend the meaning of the word "hypocrisy". hahahaha, so someone told you I was a "cub" fan until recently? heh hehheh, looks like someones taking advantage of your comprehension. Who told you that? Im very curious. You comprehend what you want to comprehend, and then rip on others, a very poor quality internet and otherwise. Anyway, stop following me around, and I dont have to rebut any of your posts. Deal? By the way, why dont you tell Hawk Harrelson about your World-is-Flat theories regarding the Media. He'd love to hear from ya.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:28 AM) Hanger = again. You, unfortunately, offer nothing but conspiracy theories about how everyone is out to "get" the White Sox, especially the big bad media. Sadly, another of your continuous rants includes daily denegrating of Cub fans, apparantly in a pathetic effort to make you feel better about yourself. Not to mention how "the other website" has wronged you. If you're suggesting I don't have any guts, you haven't read my posts. Especially this one. Now, if you've got anything else to say ... other than your usual harebrained ranting about things you don't have the slightest clue about ... you are more than welcome to PM me. That is, if you can string some original thoughts together with coherency. I trust that's original enough for you hangar. I also trust that even you, with your obvious comprehension problem, can understand the meaning of this post. Really Hangar? No kidding? Thanks for enlightening me. Waste of Bandwidth. If you dont like my conspiracy theories, keep it to yourself, or at least for the good people on the world wide web, offer an alternate theory instead of your Mariotti-esque "its hairbrained" answer for everything. Its really unbecoming of you. Really. Keeping your head in the sand, doesnt mean its not happening. Maybe you can comprehend that ...........

Chris Russo from WFAN in NY says this was as Huge a Loss for the Yankees as it was a Huge Win for the SOX I agree. The SOX clearly have their backs against the wall and one bullet left in the chamber.......... Were still not out of the woods ...................reeling off 10 in a row right now puts us in the thick of things

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 9, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) Chris Rongey is too much of an optimist = WSCR. Rongey unfortuneately works for WSCR, he has to maintain a certain stance regarding the White Sox. He doesnt go over the top as some suggest, believe me, he gets just as frustrated with the team as we do

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:58 PM) Seems to me my views were quite clear. Perhaps it's a reading comprehension problem on your part? You were called out because you CONSTANTLY bring up the Cubs and their fans. Other people on this site have gotten called out for that too so don't think you're special. Either way, my original point still stands. Negativity is happening because of sky high expectations, and Hardly. Your views were definitely Clear. Clearly unoriginal. Your the only one who calls anything out on me (and a certain cohort). Your views are nothing but negative, unimaginative, and without any thought. Id love to hear what you really think about anything, but unfortuneately, you sit by the keyboard ready for my next post. At least I have the guts to post what I feel, your nothing but the message board version of Jay Mariotti. My original thought stands, the SOX fanbase has always been "negative" because were more realistic, (for comparison, look at the other fanbase 8miles north to define realism) its just that the spotlight has shone on us now more than before.

QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) All franchises copy good ideas off other franchises. The Cubs aren't the only ones to do this, although I doubt you'll acknowledge that reality. Gee I wonder if the Cubs fans are upset the White Sox put greenery out in CF? Gee I wonder if the Cubs fans are upset that the White Sox are encouraging redevelopment in Bridgeport? Etc. Etc. Actually I know quite a few Cub fans who are very knowledgeable about baseball, they are good fans even though they root for the Cubs. They laugh at White Sox fans who are Cub obsessed ... your being ridiculous (as usual), however, I did hear a Cub fan during the crosstown series claim the SOX copied the Cubs with the greenery, even though numerous other teams in the 1900's did it. Bet you didnt know that. I know quite a few too Jim, your not the only one, and they'll be the first to tell YOU, they arent the smartes fanbase in sports. They laugh at their own kind.

Ive seen fluff believe me, but these 2 articles were Ridiculous. A picture on the front page of the Trib, in which the caption says "sundays wave at wrigley" inspired the article? As if it were never done at Comiskey? (and Id love to see less of) The 20 reasons to keep going to Wrigley this season, could easily have been replaced with VASOXFans Reasons to Despair/Reasons to Hope post.
-
say man, that is a pretty good way at looking at things from both sides. We've only got 7 weeks left to watch baseball, and to tell you the truth, the Wild Card is bogus, but im not too proud to say I hope we can make that.
-
Ok, the last few posts were pretty funny. But in all seriousness ........ Can you imagine if the SOX were to miraculously come back, win the division, roll thru the playoffs, and Win the WS? This WS would, in my mind, eclipse last years for just sheer excitement.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) The White Sox fanbase is turning more and more into Red Sox nation every single day. Ive never seen so many so called "fans" give up on a team that currently holds a playoff spot. So be it here on soxbandwagontalk. The most crucial week of the season for the Sox, when they need our suport the most... and nodbody can put an ounce of faith in this team. Pathetic. Its like youre going to the games expecting to Boooooo. There was more energy in the Cell last year with 30,000 than it is full this year..... but go ahead and keep b****ing and whining, because that's what classy fans do. How do you expect our boys to kepp things on the right track if nobody believes in them?? So greedy the majority of this fanbase has become... We should all be proud to be a White Sox fan, lately most fans sound like the biggest bunch of asses this side of the AL. hey, I see your point, and Im sure others do, but dont mistake made by many others, and other websites for that matter. Just because your DOWN on the SOX' chances this year, doesnt make you less of a SOX fan. Im going tonite, and guess what I'll be doing? Cheering them on, because yeah, theres a small bit chance the TIGERS will go into complete meltdown, while the SOX pitching wakes up from their yearlong slumber and we take the division. Alot of SOX fans think the chances are slim and none, thats all QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:24 PM) The only thing more shocking I've been accused of is when Milkman and I were called blindly-loyal homers for suggesting Jermaine Dye's option should be picked up. ..that really happened? Hey man, that actually is shocking
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 8, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) I just liked his post because not only did he say that the expectations were high, but he also pointed out that this team was underachieving and yet the season isn't over yet. yeah, really stepping out there, heh heh
