  1. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) There is a difference between criticizing the team, even vehemently... and gleefully enjoying doing so. You seem to be in the latter camp. Do you not see the difference? Its not Gleeful. Lets just put a end to that notion. There was only 1 thing to smile about this weekend, and maybe I didnt make the point right, but Frank Thomas cemented his HOF status this weekend in my eyes.
  2. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) But I certainly didn't "give up" on them, nor have I now. I hope they make it, I want them to make it, Well, on this note, the SOX are not winning this division. I was holding out hope had we swept the A's. Wouldve set up the Tigers for a smackdown. The Twinks are going to win the division. The SOX and Tiggers will both try to limp into the wildcard. We need a complete collapse by the Tigers to make the wildcard .................... can it happen? I know this for sure, we cant keep playing the way we have since July .............
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:56 AM) No one says you have to hate him, but he can get his home runs another time. Frank's the reason I, along with a lot of other people my age are White Sox fans. Doesn't mean I want him to get a single hit off of the Sox. dont get me wrong, I hoped Frank would go 0 for 12, (we win that series) I cant stop Frank, all I can do is when he gives our pitching staff the beat-down, all you can do is APPRECIATE just how good the guy is, and what he did for us ............. he'll always be SOX in my eye, and you know what? He thinks the same thing ........... QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:59 AM) Nothing kills a team more than dropping 2 out of 3 before the All-Star break. Yes. Nothing kills a team more than dropping 2 of 3 before the All Star Break, knowing you were going to have 4 off days in a row, to a team thats Playing very well and up till that point, for the rest of the season, represented the schedule getting much tougher down the stretch. They played lethargically that series and of course, it carried over to the next weekend .............
  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:50 AM) Some fan. So nothing about that Boston series in July troubled you ? anyone else? Hey, if you were more confident in them after that series, more power to you. But I dont think that makes me LESS of a Sox fan. I found that series very Disturbing across the board ...........
  5. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) again with the "your a cub fan" banter? someone show me proof that Im a cub fan. anything will do. ....and just who is "We figured out ....." ? the only thing I saw this past weekend was a former SOX cementing his status as a Hall Of Famer. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) Well if watching the Sox lose made you "smile every time Frank Thomas just Jammed It to the SOX this weekend", you aren't much of a Sox fan. HEY. I gave up on these guys in July. That doesnt mean im not a SOX fan. Im still cheering for them. I also said I was DISGUSTED after Saturdays game. Why would I be disgusted if I wasnt a fan? Im about as big a SOX fan there is, and Frank Thomas' weekend was pretty amazing ..................considering most of us saw him do this on a daily basis for all those years he was here. I smiled (again, I used the word bittersweet) because for whoever sat on the fence not sure of Frank being a 1st HOF'er, he sure is now. Heck, some articles even said that was an MVP weekend/season he's had. Sorry, im just not going to Blindly HATE a player because hes not a SOX anymore. Its not like he WANTED to leave ...... Again, Frank is arguably the best player this organization has ever seen ...............
  6. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Yea, I'm crying about it. It's the best thing since we figured out you're a Cub fan. Seriously, you're digging your grave the more you post. It's obvious your allegiance isn't with the Sox now, so why bother? again with the "your a cub fan" banter? someone show me proof that Im a cub fan. anything will do.
  7. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) He's not a White Sock anymore, sorry. I don't enjoy seeing anyone doom our playoff hopes. hey, didnt I say it was "BITTERSWEET"? And I just read an article and Big Frank actually used the same words, "Bittersweet". The irony and reason were talking about Thomas is, well, he helped doom our playoff chances. Hows that for a hollywood ending? Couldnt have been scripted better
  8. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) For once, Milkman and I agree 100%. Go root for the Cubs, because after that post, that's all you are worth to me, Hangar. Sorry ...........I'm still a FRANK THOMAS FAN, if you couldnt smile watching the Best Sox Hitter ever .....
  9. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:36 AM) You're being too harsh... Cora doesn't make a difference in a game save about three times this season. hahahahaha, I can count 3 occasions right now, where he got Konerko thrown out by a country mile at home plate ...... Cora is being way to AGGRESSIVE with a Slower team. Thats like Joey entering the Indy 500 with only a souped up Lexus
  10. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) Thome is one of KW's biggest deals. He won't trade Thome and he won't allow Ozzie to platoon Thome (Ozzie wouldn't think of doing it anyway) unless he is hurt. Thome might be an albatross around this team's neck next year. He might not be. But if he's injured next year and/or his skills are diminishing, he won't be helping this team a whole lot. Thome was very Big Hurt-esque in April and part of May. He then regressed BADLY into an almost automatic out (barring a mistake pitch here and there). I havnt liked Jim Thome since June/July, especially in the 3 hole. Many rallies were stopped early on ......... QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Has any player in baseball fallen off more in the second half of the season than Jim Thome? He's paid to hit homers (that's all he swings for, at least) and he's done very little of that this half. The Irony here, is Jim Thome is more suited to the 2003 team than the 2006 SOX. YES, I know its unfair to compare him to Thomas, because I do like the R/L/R combo, but he isnt a Contact/UseAllPartsoftheField guy like Thomas was. How many times did we need Thome to at least get the runner over, or drive him in with a Sac Fly? Boy could we use a Frank Thomas type player on our team.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 07:57 PM) Congrats to the big man. I know who I'm rooting for once the Sox are eliminated. They're the only likeable team in the AL. Can't root for Detroit, as I dislike most Detroit-anything fans. Minny? Hate 'em, they're players, some of their fans. New York? Hah -- the worst of 'em all. I still tend to root for AL Central teams if the SOX arent in it, then AL teams in general. BUT YES, I will be pulling for Frank to get his 2nd World Series Ring. Theres your AL representative in the World Series, the Oakland A's QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) The A's GM is laughing every day at what a steal he got in Big Hurt. Dont Forget Joe Blanton too ........... Blanton was supposed to have been drafted by the SOX, but Beane apparently snookered a young Kenny Williams ........
  12. This season for the White Sox was so darned important, for a bunch of reasons, the most notable being the SOX being able to capitalize on having the cities baseball attention, which if anyone noticed, all melted away 2 weeks ago when the Bears started playing. Making the playoffs again, would give the SOX as good a chance as anyone to make an unprecedented (in this town) 2nd World Series appearance. Disgusting the way this team folded like a cheap card table in Oakland this weekend. And Karma certainly got Kenny Williams this weekend didnt it? Who here didnt smile every time Frank Thomas just Jammed It to the SOX this weekend, playing like an MVP and leading his new team ............ bittersweet to say the least. I love Frank Thomas.
  13. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) Dick Stockton reminded me of something on the broadcast yesterday that I haven't really thought of. The Sox have NEVER made the playoffs two years in a row. It's sickening. YES. For an organization thats been around for 100 plus years, to not make the playoffs 2 yrs in a row is embarrassing. Especially considering in the last 10 years, we've had teams good enough to do so. This season was over to me after that sickening Boston series in July. It was like getting a glimpse into the SOX future .................. And I didnt like what I saw. For all our troubles this season, I will squarely rest it on Ozzies mismanagement of the lineup and bullpen, particularly MACKOWIAK IN CENTER. I love Mack, but almost every game hes been in Center, has cost us dearly ................ I was so DISGUSTED after saturdays give-away game, as Ive ever been in 3 months ....
  14. Looking at the rest of the weekend, I have the Twinks taking 2 of 3 from the Indians, with a real possibility of sweeping that series (knowing they are just 1 game out). They are riding on FUMES and MOMENTUM (hahaha, I said momentum). I dont see how the Tigers DONT win 2 of 3 against the Orioles. Simply put, a SOX SWEEP gains us ground no matter what. The SOX cannot accept anything less. Time is running out. A SWEEP sets us up to knock Detroit off the mountain for the 1st time (and probably only time) as the Tigers and Twinks could be separated by 1 game, while were 2 back. The Twinks go to Boston, then go to Baltimore. We need to be on FIRE by then ...... The whole point of this post ...... IS IM VERY NERVOUS A SOX SWEEP this weekend sets us up to move into 1st place for the first time this season ......
  15. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) I like the pitching matchups the whole series. I like our chances for 2 of 3, which is what I'd like to see. GO YOU WHITE SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2 of 3 sounds good during any time of the season .............. except now. The SOX can win 2 of 3 and we will STILL lose ground to someone this weekend. We need a SWEEEEP. in the worst way.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 02:53 PM) If he was pitching against us, he'd probaby throw 5 shutout innings. Seems that always happens when we get hit with a young guy. From ESPN Baseball Tonite Telecast: "...an in the AL Central Playoff race, Orioles Rookie Hayden Penn, who entered the game with a 36.00 ERA, scatters 3 hits over 7 innings, shutting out the SOX. He finished with 6 strikeouts, including Jim Thome 4 times and Scott Podsednik twice ......"
  17. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 01:18 PM) Tigers are something like 12-23 in their last 35. Why are people assuming they will even go 8-8? KC has been really good recently as well and are no pushover. Tonites starter for the Orioles, Hayden Penn, vs the Tigers, has something like a 36.00 ERA, 3 2/3 innings, 17 hits, 15 earned runs.
  18. Shoot. Im looking at the rotation right now for the weekend. Garland vs. Loiaza. Will be tough on the road, but we should squeak it out. Saturday vs. Zito. were probably losing this game. Contreras vs Blanton. Pick 'em. Needless to say, WE NEED TO SWEEP. if we "only" take 2 of 3, were probably STILL going to lose ground to either Tiggers or Twinks. I can see the Orioles only taking 1 game this weekend
  19. QUOTE(mreye @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 08:31 AM) I LOVE KETCHUP ON MY HOT DOGS!!! Who the hell made of the "rule" that you can't have ketchup on your hot dogs? Ben Franklin ...........during the declaration of independence.
  20. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) we need to go 11-5 the rest of the way and have either the Twins go 9-7 or the Tigers go 8-8 for a one game playoff. It will be tough, be it can be done. That series vs Detroit is F'N HUGE!!! To go 11-5 here is what i see happening the rest of the way: 2 of 3 @ Oakland (2-1) 2 of 3 vs Detroit (4-2) call me crazy but we own Detroit this year. 3 of 4 vs Seattle (7-3) 2 of 3 @ Cleveland (9-4) 2 of 3 @ Minny (11-5) Yep we MUST win every series to get in the playoffs. No ifs ands or buts about it! Every game is a MUST win, ESSPECIALLY the 1st game of every series. We have to go 11-5 while HOPING that the Twins go 9-7 and/or Tiggers go 8-8 ? Thats a lot of stuff to happen (mind you-thats not in the SOX control anymore). More likely, the Twinks will have a better record than that down the stretch, theyre riding on "fumes" so to speak....... and the SOX will simply have to go on a 11-2 run (BEFORE 9/29 series) to assure themselves a spot in October. This team cant win 3 in a row ........... Dang, I would love to have that Sunday 7/2 Cub game back. Or that Vazquez tiger implosion game in July. Or that blown 7 run lead to KC 4/7. Or that KC game just a couple weeks ago we gave away ....
  21. QUOTE(beautox @ Sep 15, 2006 -> 07:13 AM) Funny, i mentioned Young, and a few posters here scoffed at that idea, Hey, I remember you getting ripped for that notion. Looks like you were right ....
  22. My tastes are all over the boards ..... from Sting to John Mayer, from Supertramp to Zeppelin, Tool to The Cars, Megadeth to Chicago. Ottmar Liebert to Soundgarden too .......
  23. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 03:18 PM) THE NORTH SIDE????? TRAITOR!!!!!! yeah, I know, its not far from Club Wrigley
  24. QUOTE(Pete7784 @ Sep 14, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Why hasn't anybody given any thought to Gload in left field next season? because hes a terrible outfielder. Hes an EXCELLENT infielder/1B though .......
