QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 01:53 AM) Sportscenter sure ripped into our club. According to the anchor (whoever the hell he is), our club watched ESPN rather than the TWins game. They knew their miserable season had finally concluded. No use watching a real team defeat the Royals. There was even a shot of a fan holding up a sign saying, "Ozzie, who's choking now?" with the picture of Guillen from last season. Term "embarrassing" was used at the end of the highlight. Sure was. Now, we can sit back this postseason and reflect on the misery which we were all witness to. Usually, I hate when the Media negatively covers the SOX, but they are spot-on. The SOX should be ripped for this miserable 2nd half.

So who else besides me guessed correctly, that Tuesday 9/26 would be a dark day around here? Im happy that 2 teams from this division are in the playoffs, and it wont be an ESPN/AL EAST Bonanza. The SOX gave us many signs that they werent really a good team, and their pathetic record the 2nd half shows.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 11:00 PM) LMAO at HR and Rbi's being the only "important" stats for a player, and that wasn't even the stupidest part of the post. A player can have a decent amount of HR and RBI's, but not be that good (Tony Batista a few years ago.) A player can be very productive without hitting home runs or driving in runs as well. Hangar, I didn't cherry pick s***. I posted the half numbers against LHP and RHP for both Thomas and Thome. YOU were the one looking for Frank's second half, against LHP, Batting average. That's cherry picking. Care to explain the .152 batting average? Are you on the Sox's side, or the Tribune's? (ie, supporting propoganda) Why is Frank Thomas in this conversation? Balta brings up a good point, how much have Thomes alarmingly low HR & RBI numbers because of Scott Podsednik? Im sure it doesnt help Thome, but Thome has batted with men on the second half, and ive seen plenty of popups, strikeouts from him. I trust Jermaine Dye with men on more.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) Since Hangar won't do his own homework; 1st Half Thome: against RHP: .322/.433/.806 1.239 OPS in 180 at-bats against LHP: .257/.382/.394 .776 OPS in 109 at-bats 1st Half Thomas: against RHP: .262/.369/.530 .899 OPS in 168 at-bats against LHP: .152/.361/.500 .861 OPS in 46 at-bats Wow Hangar. A .152 BA. Shouldn't righties do better agianst lefties? 2nd Half Thome: against RHP:.321/.486/.621 1.107 OPS in 112 at-bats against LHP: .218/.326/.333 .679 OPS in 78 at-bats 2nd Half Thomas: against RHP: .301/.371/.568 .939 OPS in 183 at-bats. against LHP: .286/.452/.554 1.006 OPS in 56 at-bats. Hangar is to Jim Thome what the Tribune is to the Sox. Make your point, and avoid all the facts that may point otherwise. Hangar, are you on the SOX's side, or the Tribune's? Say, thanks for digging this up while I was away. Hmmmmmmmmmmm. Look at that. According to those gaudy numbers, Thome has pretty much been scalding the ball off of everyone. .322 first half, .321 second half? My gosh he is amazing. But lets look a bit further, in the power numbers, the ones that should be consistently HIGH, seeing that hes our/was our #3 hitter. April 10 HR, May 10 HR's while hitting pretty "good" about .300. Well June came and he dropped badly, hitting 5 homers, and his average at .260. Thats ok I guess for all the Thome apologists out there, but you cant have a .260 hitter in the #3 hole, while another guy is hitting .300 plus. In July, he gets his homers up a bit to 8 HR's, and his RBI's to 17. August wasnt good at all again, he dipped to 3 homers, and only 10 RBI. Boy did we need him in August too. There are only a couple games left in the season, and Thome has 6 homers this month, and 15 RBI. According to ESPN, Thome hit .298 before the break, and .279 after the break. Before the Break, he had 30 homers and 77 rbi. For sure on MVP pace. After the Break, he had only 12 homers and 30 rbi. Take from that what you will.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:31 PM) It would also mean a playoff spot, I noticed something today. 2005 = Rowand 2006 = Anderson 2005 = World Series 2006 = Disapointment Coincidence? I THINK NOT! You have to remember last year's team was built solely on chemistry, the #1 producer of said chemistry??? AARON ROWAND. I never really believed in all of that Chemistry stuff. But there has to be something to this ........ QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 02:12 PM) Your argument carries no weight when you fail to support it with factual information. The numbers say he's been quite good. OPS and OBP huge, BA RISP even better... what do you see in the second half that is "not right?" Give me a sec, here, while I dig up Thomes 2nd half Batting Average, and his average against lefties
-
QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 25, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) Really? Can the dog do math? Does the dog see that Thome's OPS was 1.005 in July? And 1.039 in August? And .993 thus far in September? Yeah, he really hasn't been right since June. He's only been among the best hitters in baseball during that time, hit even better in RISP than is normal numbers, and been one of the few guys on the team to hustle out every ground ball. I really don't know what planet people are on if they think Jim Thome is a problem for this team - he is in fact the 2nd most valuable offensive player in the lineup. Are you just LOOKING for things to b**** about? NOPE. Jim Thome hasnt been right since June. Best hitter since June? I saw a low low average the 2nd half. I didnt say he was a "problem" for this team, I said he hasnt been right since June. Big Difference. Hes been among the best hitters in baseball during that time. Sure, as long as a lefty wasnt on the mound. We'll find out soon enough that he was hurt again .......

AJ's 9th inning homer off Dempster to win the game, has to be one of the top, most thrilling moments. Talk about a rush ............

Well, considering that the SOX will be eliminated from the playoffs on 9/26 (as previously predicted) I see the Twins resting their staff the rest of the week to get ready for the playoffs. Twins vs. Yankees is a real possibility, but if Santana is going game 1, in a short series ? Im thinking Twinks take that series. Book it.
-
Wow. Congratulations to the White Sox and this fanbase. I predicted this would the the 1st time the SOX ever got 3 Million (and was roundly mocked for it If I recall correctly) and was only off by 42,586. DANG! Thats basically one more good crowd, and we wouldve done it. 51 Sellouts. Congratulations SOX FANS, thats also a tribute to you too.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 07:29 AM) The problem is that this team isn't playing with fire and intensity game in and game out. Way too often they just sleepwalk through games. 100% effort every night is not too much to ask for. It is the least that we fans deserve. Yes. Games that would be labeled "must win", they would instead sleepwalk thru. Yeah, there were numerous games where we needed to SWEEP a team, and instead lose that 3rd game, lose intensity and focus, and just be content to take 2 of 3, because thats what "winning" teams do. Championship teams "SWEEP" teams and put them away is how I look at it. Which set us up for the inevitable, the Bad Breaks. That Oakland series, we needed a Sweep in the worst way. 2 of those games, we got a few bad breaks, as those were winnable. Thats what happens when you set yourself up like that. I gave the SOX their Standing O during the Parade and Opening Day. Anything else after that, they need to Re-Earn, because 2005 was Last Year.

people in my section asked me what I thought of the new SoxFest plan. Told them I didnt like it. Needless to say, people were furious about this, every person saying they were NOT going to seek SoxFest tickets in 07. Ive got to think this is going to backfire badly on the SOX

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Sep 16, 2006 -> 12:15 AM) Thome is one of KW's biggest deals. He won't trade Thome and he won't allow Ozzie to platoon Thome (Ozzie wouldn't think of doing it anyway) unless he is hurt. Thome might be an albatross around this team's neck next year. He might not be. But if he's injured next year and/or his skills are diminishing, he won't be helping this team a whole lot. I know a couple guys who think Jim Thome is one of the most significant aquisitions for the SOX in about 100 years. Even a dog can tell you Thome hasnt been right since June

QUOTE(TheOcho @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) This is the 100th time this has been repeated. heh heh. And thats how many losses this team would have if the season ended October 30th instead of October 1st.

Konerko's quote after the game yesterday

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 11:56 AM) We won the WS on October 26th, which means it was more like 4 weeks. That is 4 weeks that players don't have to rest, recover, get procedures done, etc. Despite it being "only 12 games" to some, those are the 4 more intense weeks that any of those players will ever see, as they were almost all one run games, where every single pitch was a game breaking potential experience. The body takes time to recover and adjust from the grind of playing 200 plus games of baseball, when you include the preseason on top of that. Take away 20% of the typical recovery time that the players have been used to, and it makes it that much harder to recover from. The results are obvious, and you don't need to look any further than the exhaustion and nagging injuries the players are showing to see them. Ok, gotcha. Good point -
I think that was COOL

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 09:40 AM) It amazes me how few people get it around here, and I don't mean that directly against you. Im not quite sure what you mean by that .......... but I read that comment, and to me, the SOX only played 2 extra weeks. Does 2 extra weeks take that much of a toll on a team? Thats secretly why its hard to repeat? -
I hope they can find room for him. Ozuna is the exact "grinder" type that Kenny Williams supposedly likes ......someone that hustles and gives 100%

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) So if it's the Sox's fault for falling apart this past weekend, how exactly did Frank "cement" his HOF spot this weekend? Frank had his spot waiting in cooperstown for some time now. cmon man, dont act like your not paying attention to the media. In the offseason, when it became apparent Frank wouldnt be SOX in 06, there was wide speculation as to whether he would be in the HOF. Stats were thrown around, comparisons made. Sox fans naturally said YES, Media types were split, some said he needed to have 1 more good year. Frank started badly, but has made an incredible turn-around the last couple of months. Heck, after the weekend, some media outlets said it was an MVP performance .....................

QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:17 PM) They've missed a great opportunity to vault this franchise into a power. That is the biggest loss I believe for this organization. The chance to put themselves into the stratosphere of chicago baseball teams Ive been OUT since July ...... so none of this surprises me. This team is playing the exact same way as it was in July, as it was in April, as it was last week. Ozzie finally puts Jermaine Dye in the 3hole about 2 months too late ............. (sighs)

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) The fact remains, he is not a member of the White Sox, yet you were happy to see him pretty much eliminate the Sox from contention. How sick is that? So I cant cheer for the guy and wish him the best? Thats Foolish talk if you think I want him to beat us every chance he can. Frank is going to hit the SOX and any other team no matter what. Him having a great weekend against us and putting the nail in the SOX coffin is the SOX own fault, they shouldnt have given away all those games this year. I could think of WORSE players getting hits on us. Shoot, I remember Carl Yazstremski crushing a ball into the upper deck of Old Comiskey, in his final at-bat. The homerun pretty much cemented their win against us in the 9th. Know what happened? The 10,000 people or so there ALL GAVE HIM A STANDING OVATION. And he wasnt even a White SOX player. So those are all bad fans too? Thats Sick alright

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:26 PM) After taking most of the afternoon to relax. I realized that the season is far from over pending a sweep of detroit. The White Sox have brought it against Detroit all year as Bearsox stated. If the Sox can sweep the Tigers, we'd be 2 games behind in the wild card with 10 games left. After that Detroit has KC for 6 more games. Well KC is no cake walk, they are playing the spoiler role so far down the stretch. Not to mention they took 2 of 3 vs Minny, something we can only dream of doing. I already submitted to Minny, but i refuse to submit to Detroit!! We can beat these guys. An old song writer once wrote "All we need is a miracle, all we need is you!" Well starting tonite, lets do the unthinkable! As the 3 stooges sang last year down the stretch during rough times "Don't stop believing..." I know most of us have stopped, but with a win tonite, maybe they can make us believe just one more time... Man ................ I have my fingers crossed

QUOTE(spiderman @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:16 AM) I have a feeling that after the season ends (yes, no playoffs), we're going to hear that Thome's wrist was more seriously injured than let on. Still, no excuses....he still gets on base often enough to score runs, but the hitting has been pretty bad in the 2nd half. For next season, I think Ozzie has to limit Thome to about 120 games....I hate to rest the regulars as much as Ozzie has this season, but I think it's imperative to get Thome healthy this off-season, and get him 1 to 2 off days a week, especially against lefties. It turns out that as well as he played in the 1st half, he just wasn't able to contribute much in the 2nd half, and as we've seen with the struggling offense, a top performance by Thome would have been huge in the 2nd half. You might be onto something here, which would explain the dropoff ................

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:35 PM) Don't you guys just love it when Magglio Ordonez beats the hell out of the White Sox? That'll show KW for not signing him, even though he was a huge injury concern and didn't really fit into the teams plans this year. But man, he is just so good...seeing him help the Tigers kill the Sox rally in July just brought a smile to my face. thats really not a good comparison. one guy wanted a ton of money ........ the other just wanted to stay a Sox forever ................

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) The name on the front means a crapload more than any name on the back. I liked Frank, and I am a big Frank Thomas fan( of his playing), but the minute he steps up near the plate against us. I want him struckout silly every single time. I could care less if he was 0-15 against us and booed out of the stadium. He is not a whitesox player anymore. You can cheer for a player, but to get a smile from watching a guy end your teams season is f***ed up. Ummmmmm no. Smiled knowing Frank Thomas cemented HOF status ..............
-
QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Thomas will always be a Sox?. I don't buy that. I appreciate all he did alright - up till 2006. I will always appreciate and smile at what he did - but I could care less what he does now. "Always a Sox" - yeah, hold on to that thought when you see him wearing green during his induction ceremony. SFF Thomas wont wear an A's hat in the HOF.
