  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 01:31 PM) Well, you're basically wrong on both fronts. Not really sure why you mentioned the Cubs, as far as I know they've never signed a draft pick with a clause in his contract that he must be called up by September after being drafted earlier in the season. I didnt know he signed a deal like that. It sounded like the Tigers were rushing him here .....
  2. The Tigers called up their #1 pick Andrew Miller, a lefty pitcher. I believe he only pitched 5 innings! Very cub-like move, but I guess the Tigers are very thin pitching wise.
  3. QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 18, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) I should have titled this thread "Javier Vazquez mismanagment." Because it is up to the manager to assess the resources he has and play those resources in a manner that gives the team the best chance to win. If Javier Vazquez were pulled after 5 innings in games where the Sox had a lead of 2 or fewer runs, or were within 2 runs of the lead, we would likely be ahead of the Tigers right now, not 6-1/2 games back. That's just plain and simple mismanagement. Sure, Javy "should" be able to go more, but you don't require other players to perform beyond what they are capable of, so why lose games to show that Javy Vazquez is a terrible pitcher after 5 innings? In contrast to Garcia, at least Javy shuts the other team down at the beginning of the ball game. Do you realize that, other than 4 ballgames where he got hit hard in the 5th inning (giving up 17 runs) instead of later, through 23 starts, he gave up only 30 runs over 111 innings in games where he pitched long enough to get the victory. That's an ERA of 2.43. That's pretty damn good. I haven't checked, but that's probably as good as Jose Contreras over the first 5 innings. As I've said before, Ozzie needs to manage the team of players he has, not the players he wants to have, if the Sox are going to succeed this year. This is a good post
  4. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:14 AM) Issues that are far more important than this one: Garcia's crappy pitching Vazquez's 5 and dives Contreras' sudden suckage (which I believe is a back injury) Our questionable middle relief I notice your first 4 points are all Pitching related .......... Hey, pitching is far more important, agreed. This Dye in the #3 hole is a minor and relatively FASTER and EASIER move to make in the scheme of things, so why not make the move? The pitching ......thats another can of worms.
  5. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:09 AM) To say this move will mean the end of the importance the starting pitchers' the rest of the way is for White Sox success is just ridiculous. yes. Dye #3, Anderson in CF the rest of the way, and the starting pitching putting a stop to giving up 9 runs a game will go a long way to making the playoffs.
  6. Ive been screaming for this move for QUITE SOME TIME. Cant tell you how happy I am that the SOX are finally doing the right thing. I got roasted by some clowns because they thought it meant that Thome must not be good ("hes got 30 something homeruns!"), when what it really means is that Jermaine Dye is on a tear and is hitting the ball to all fields and MAKING CONTACT, which is what you really want from your #3 guy. Even a dog can see that Dye is better suited in the #3 hole right now I just hope it isnt too late .......
  7. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Because you are a pessimistic fan, which is ok. The Twins don't HAVE to do the stumbling. Detroit can stumble to both the Twins and the Sox - which is what I see happening and I have predicted happening. The West coast trip doesn't worry me at all. Best case scenario, is that BOTH teams stumble, with someone majorly stumbling. That takes alot of luck, but that also takes into account the SOX going on a major HOT streak, something they havnt done since June/early July
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 02:57 PM) but since the birth of the wild card only one team with 95 plus wins has missed out on the playoffs. To me, that says it all right there. So the SOX have to go 19-13 the rest of the way to make the wildcard. That means the Twinks have to majorly stumble also. I dont see it. I see the SOX doing the stumbling, especially during that west coast trip. Im very worried about that. Dye #3 helps now. Anderson FT CF rest of the way will help too.
  9. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) Wait a second, how would Thome playing on Sunday have made us get swept? The one game where it was most key that Dye was in the 3 hole was Saturday against Santana, and we lost that game in heartbreaking fashion anyway. Sunday we took care of business against Carlos Silva, and the whole lineup did it's job, including the bottom of the order. Good point .... We wouldve won despite Thome being in the #3 hole on Sunday I believe also, but game may have been much closer
  10. out of all the teams Ive seen WIN a world series, the White Sox were the team that had the best chance of repeating, only because of the offseason moves to become stronger.
  11. QUOTE(cgaudin @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 03:51 PM) If Thome is coming back to hit in the 3 hole, I'd rather take my chances with him on the DL and keeping Dye hitting 3rd. Thome coming back to the 3 spot will seal our fate. Don't get me wrong, I want him in the lineup, just not hitting 3rd. I brought this up to a group of people I know, and I was Lambasted. Perception was that Thome was somehow being looked down on. Hey, im not the biggest Thome fan out there, but I like a contact guy like Dye much better there. If Thome had been playing in those games, we wouldve been SWEPT. You can book that. Out of sheer luck (Thome injury), we were able to pull one out
  12. Im not sure what your really asking here, but I EXPECT THIS TEAM TO TRY every year, to win. There have been many years where we were asked to "hang on" and give them a few years. Winning it all in 05 was great, but we couldve won it a number of times before, with 1994 being the year we really shouldve won it all. 2003 also.
  13. The SOX ARMY will get Jermaine his due.
  14. In our next 26 ................. The SOX must go 20-6. They control everything if they do this. If they fall short of this, they'll be Golfing on October 2nd
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 02:01 PM) 16-16..we miss the playoffs by 3.5 games. ........... and we'll all wax poetic all winter about all those games Ozzie threw away ...........
  16. I'll take a Line-Drive hitting Frank Thomas over a Swing-for-the-fences Thome anyday of the week. The only reason I was OK with the Thome deal, was because the SOX werent sure about Frank Thomas and his injury issues and understood they couldnt take that chance again. Now that it seems that he was misdiagnosed in the 1st place, it has made me quite angry
  17. we will go 17-15. We wont make the playoffs
  18. Actually, its a 26 game schedule. The Tiggers coast the last week, and if we arent in 1st by then ........ The other problem against us, is the wildcard. The Twinks are 1/2 game ahead of us ............ if we arent 4 games up by the time we get to Minnesota, were in big big trouble
  19. QUOTE(BainesHOF @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 02:37 AM) "The problem with baseball teams is all the players get traded, and what your favorite team used to be - a couple of guys you really liked on the team, they're not on the team now - and you can't possibly make that team your favorite team. It's like your favortie uniform. I mean...yeah...I like Detroit. Though I like Ozzie (Guillen) as a manager. And I don't know how anybody can't like Derek (Jeter). I'd rather have him on my team than anybody." http://www.whitemanstew.com/2006/05/...ime-radio-hour Somewhere on a Tigers Fan Board, someone is saying "Dylan loves the Tigers"
  20. Memo to Ozzie: Mackowiak is NOT a Centerfielder. Another Memo to Ozzie: You CANT have Mackowiak & Podsednik in the same game. Another Memo to Ozzie: Keep Dye in the #3 Hole, Drop Thome to #5. Ive been begging for this.
  21. You know, Ive been "upset" with Thome since mid May, and made comments about Thome being dropped in the lineup to some friends at a recent tailgate, and was lambasted big time. We looked like a COMPLETE lineup without Thome yesterday. That said, in April, when Thome was refusing to swing at bad pitches and taking his walks, AND GOING THE OTHER WAY with the pitch, the man was a ONE MAN WRECKING CREW. I'll take the April 06 Thome in this lineup in a heart-beat batting 3rd, otherwise drop him in the lineup!! QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 03:06 PM) I think the Sox are at the end of the rope with Pods. I think he needs to start doing something quick, or he'll be riding pine the rest of the season. Ive said it before, Im going to keep saying it. Scotty Pods needs GLASSES. I dont think he can see. Watch, next year when hes in the NL and enjoying a "renaissance", it will be because he has contacts.
  22. The SOX will need to wrap things up a week before the Season ends, because: A: Tiggers have Cupcake schedule the last week B: Sox have to go to Cleveland & Minnesota last week of the season. So with 35 games left (27 really), and with Ozzie saying the SOX need 95 Wins to make the postseason, that means they'll have to win 20 of their next 35. I still want this team to focus on the Division (even though its almost out of reach) because A WildCard team will have to play their games on the road.
  23. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) Right now, without a doubt. I'd be beside myself if we lost Dye right now....... Also, I wouldnt mind OZ giving Dye a couple days off in RF, and plug Gload or MAck in there while Thome's gone to give his leg's some rest. maybe this will finally convince Oz that he belongs there Mackowiak in RF, I dont want Gload anywhere near the outfield.
  24. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Aug 24, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) I hate to say this, but losing Thome is just so so so so much better than losing Dye "Watch Jermaine Dye get even hotter in the #3 hole"
