QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 04:10 PM) Murphy is much worse than North to me, however all of 670 AM is suspended from my dial for reasons I've explained in my Murphy rant a few weeks ago. Murphy has been a topic of my rants for years .................

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jan 25, 2007 -> 03:52 PM) From Merkin's article about Erstad's signing, this: First thing I've seen backing off of the 6-week figure. GOOD CATCH there Jackie. We were talking about this yesterday in the office. Sure, its only a couple more week difference between 6 weeks and 8 weeks (2 months) but that is the Bright Side Outlook, this can and probably nag him past the all-star break .......... We'll soonstart hearing May return ......etc

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 09:42 PM) They hope to have something official in the next 24 hours with Erstad. ...... He goes all out and his style of play will cause injuries. He's a grinder and he's being brought for 2 reasons. First, he adds outfield depth, versatility, and help develop Anderson, Sweeny and Owens. Second, the Sox were missing something last year. Hunger, desire, or whatever it is, "This guy (Erstad) is the poster boy, if we were missing something, this guy brings it." Not concerned with his lack of power, wants him to get on base. Hmmmmm. I remember alot of people, on this board and Other Boards, saying something about the SOX missing Aaron Rowands "presence" ..............

The Cubs get a taste of Zambrao's upcoming salary demands
Hangar18 replied to Kyyle23's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 05:05 PM) You say that like it would hurt them. The biggest fear my Cub fan friends have is Zambrano leaving via free agency. The Cubs and their fans would be ecstatic to wrap up Zambrano, no matter the price. With career .500 pitchers getting 10 and 11 million bucks per season, locking up Zambrano even at 19 or 20 million per would be cheered at Wrigley Field. Unlike the other divisions of TribCo, the Cubs make money hand over fist, and they can definitely absorb that kind of contract. yeah, but if Zambrano takes them to the Cleaners, 20Million 6 years ($120 Million) they would be weighted down by way way heavy contracts, with Soriano also Zambozo is DUE for an injury. Book it. -
Can anyone think of a worse Sox outfield ?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 24, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) Just stop. This had zero to do with your favorite team from the north side. If Pods is healthy, then the cheap signing they got him for made perfect sense, whether or not you planned on trading him later. You dont think so? You dont think Kenny re-signing Pods had anything to do with the this years offseason Marketplace? You dont think Kenny felt that the skyrocketing salaries and lack of available (read: scout-able talent) had anything to do with Kenny hastily re-signing Pods? Thats funny, because those were the reasons he was quoted as saying WHY the SOX were re-signing Pods. I think all along, the SOX were looking hard for another leadoff/outfielder, and Plan B was Podsednik, except that Pods may not have been plan B all along. The SOX are pretty good at making sure someones healthy before resigning. Note the timing of Pods announcement/Erstad announcement

QUOTE(Straycats @ Jan 22, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) We get 12 games and the minor league team on the North side gets 15 televised games.. This totally sucks That fact alone, is what BOTHERS me intensely. Team that WON 90 GAMES in 06, the World Series in 2005 and 14 90-win seasons since 1950 5 90-win seasons since 1990 _____________________________ = 12 games Team that LOST 90 GAMES in 06, Hasnt Won a World Series since Roosevelt was in office, only 3 90-win seasons since 1950 ZERO 90-win seasons since 1990 ______________________________ = 15 games Whats wrong with this picture?

QUOTE(joeynach @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) Bruce Levine is currently discussing. First of all he said the Erstad signing was sert long before they learned about Pods needing surgery. He this surgery is not related to various groin problems or groin strains Pods has had over the past couple years with the white sox. He said the surgery is on the other side groin where he incurred an injury 4 years ago in Milwaukee. Still didn't really label the surgery as anything specific. I would still like to find out is this a tear, a hernia, a strain, scar tissue, and other details like how long will he be out, whats the timetable, etc. I guess this make the Erstad signing look a little better. We couldn't just have Ozuna out there everyday in LF we needed a real OF with a real glove and at least Erstad brings that to the table for us. I dont buy it. how in the world did they sign a guy ............ then discover hes hurt? A: They were in such a rush to sign him cheap, because of that stupid Soriano signing. Kenny point blank said that "seeing the market" behave the way it was, he wasnt going to play the $$$ game and said Pods made "sense". It was right after if you remember, that Phil Rogers THE HERETIC filed his story about the SOX not playing the $$$ game and were about to peddle every pitcher worth something

I am hoping and praying that Zambrano takes that team to the BANK! -
QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jan 23, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Thanks Hangar. And a recap of the Ozzie/Hawk/whoever discussion. I have never LMAO so much as I was at the one in Jan. 2005 and Hawk was saying how the 2004 team was one of the best he's seen and people in the crowd were not having it, especially these two dudes behind me. That nite at the Seminar ............. was absolutely MUST SEE TV. For those of you who were not there, let me tell you, you got to see 1st Hand what the wrath of SOX fans was actually like. I love how media here try to tell you the SOX fanbase isnt "passionate", or a small minority of us think that only a small minority complain about the way the team is being run. People were outright catcalling from all over the ballroom, disagreeing with almost every "pandering" statement being discussed by Kenny Williams, Ozzie and Hawk. Someone yelled "because your cheap!" and the whole ballroom cheered and clapped. Kudos to the guys on stage for really keeping their cool, I thought the Kenny was going to lose it, and leave the stage. I remember being angry that Hawk was playing devils advocate, in this case taking the middle ground on the stance between fans and Kenny (he was hosting though) I also remember laughing to myself and thinking, man this is like a Jerry Springer show (SunTimes next day put that exactly on its front cover!) The SOX finally understood the passion of the fans

Hands down ............ No Contest, the SOX WORLD SERIES. first off, it was 88 years when the last one won, the Bears won a SuperBowl in 1986. Also, this town is 100% behind the Bears, with them not having to split a fanbase, nor having to fight with a Media that doesnt like them. The 05 SOX (and their fanbase) had so many obstacles to overcome, to win that season, especially because they WERE NOT EXPECTED TO WIN. The way they banded together, fighting a lack of respect from their own media for most of the season, a team filled with a supposed band of castoffs (AJ, Everett, Contreras) these guys were all key contributors to the team at one point or another. And then the way the Pitching Staff came together for that 3 week stretch, and the SOX doing every possible thing to win games in the most extraordinary ways ............... made for one of the best Storybook Seasons in decades in the MLB (the 03 Marlins also had a storybook season)

QUOTE(Brian26 @ Jan 21, 2007 -> 11:48 AM) Not be a downer because it is a good deal, but those jerseys are not game issue...not even close. It's a replica jersey wth the cheap lettering and numbers on the back. My nephew was talking about this also ............... said the jerseys were the bad fake ones ..... my sister tried to buy him one of those, he said no way he didnt want it -

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 22, 2006 -> 03:37 PM) Well, it sure looks like they're reading us...so I think they may notice... the Media reads these boards ........... Im always impressed that someone in the media will bring up a subject that was talked about online. Pretty Cool -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 01:02 AM) Last years was ridiculously over-crowded (my guess is this years won't be as bad in that area). I didnt mind so much ...... mostly because I knew the SOX' popularity had been soaring the last few years. Post WS was expected. The way they did it this year ....... still has me scratching my head

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) For only 16 games, i believe they would without a doubt. If the sox play only every other sunday at home, people would jam the place regardless of opponent. It's way easier to be a bears fan in this town than it is a baseball fan, as it's a shorter season. As i said earlier, they attract the 'dumb' fan very easily. Nice Post. Its too hard to compare the two sports, because YES Football is much easier to follow (Baseball makes most impatient), its on Once a week, and they only play 16 games, and depending on which team you like, the early games are the most meaningful. -
QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) Please don't be offended, but I'm avoiding this episode like the plague. I'm completely tired of B-Mac trade talk, and I'm assuming that "the recent moves" include a fair amount of McCarthy trade discussion. I stay out of the McCarthy trade threads, and I'll stay away from this show. I'll be back for the next episode, unless you do "B-Mac Part Deux". Heh heh .......... definitely have to download some of this stuff

I see an even bigger year for him also. As some of the other posters have said, the extra rest here and there is going to help him immensely.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 04:30 PM) The Sox did not sign Eric Young they signed Ernie Young. Eric is the infielder who played for the Cubs, Ernie is the 36 year old career minor leaguer who played for Charlotte last year. I hope Kenny Williams didnt confuse himself by signing Ernie when he meant to sign Eric ..... -
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) First if all KW could get for Garcia is Gio and Floyd, then he I don't think he'll be able to get Pelfrey and Milledge for Buehrle. Second, that would be a give up on the 2007 season. I think it is a bit too early to white flag the 2007 season. And I can't imagine why anyone would be in favor of tanking a season where you know you'll be in contention in favor of maybe contending in future seasons. I say "maybe" because we would be banking on prospects and prospects are iffy by their very nature. All this stuff ............ Phil Rogers predicted a couple weeks ago. He was called a heretic by some I recall also .......

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 4, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) FWIW, there was a recent blurb in the Tribune where Ozzie said that the Sox are going to start to scout Latin America better in order to try and find some players. Maybe that's one of the good things about having Ozzie as our manager. Shouldnt we have been doing that more in the first place? Maybe we should follow the lead of a couple of other teams .......... build a glorified soup kitchen down there, give away free gloves, and hope someone pans out
