QUOTE(JimH @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 10:05 AM) One day later, and a flip flop? quote name='Hangar18' date='Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:34 PM' post='1235608'] I know the season isnt "over" yet, but Ive already written 2006 off and have looked to 07 already. haha, I saw JimH's name in the thread, and thought Oh boy hes got a glib comment for me, and I see Steff beat him to it. Slow on the draw there buddy! The All Aboard is supposed to be in reference to a bandwagon filling up. That being said, man wouldnt it be awesome if the SOX ran off 10 straight and 18 of 20 to get back in this? I just dont see it happening with the condition of our pitchers.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:24 PM) well im assuming we will at least take 2 out of 3 and i know I shouldnt but im almost expecting to sweep them. So than Ill judge this team with how they do vs Toronto. The Jays are a good team so if we take 2 of 3 or even sweep than ill be back on this team's bandwagon. ALL ABOARD!!

I think its interesting that he got a big paycheck/contract extension. That'll teach the editors to not back their writers it seems ......

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 09:25 AM) Jesus, both sites are FULL of threads like this. Are they really necessary every single day? Does that other site have threads complaining about other threads? Doe they still banish people for not staying positive?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 04:25 PM) All in fun; I totally want Javy and the team to succeed. Oh I know it was in fun man, we need to laugh at something. I just think other groups of uptight SOX "fans" would not have been pleased and wouldnt have taken it for what it was ......just Good Fun

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I like it, mate. I'm a big fan of that sort of thing. I've mocked Freddy Garcia with a parody of Back to the Future (in the Catchall Thread) and SoxTalk members with a mix of Enter the Sandman, so good work, tiger. Very Clever, totally good for a laugh. Brother, I gotta tell you, if that was on any other site, the guy wouldve got reamed bigtime, heh heh. Well Done.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) It's going to be a fun race, and how big is that final series of the season in Minny?? Man, I hope the SOX will have wrapped everything up by that point. If its close, you know were not winning in that place. If we are close, I'll probably drive up there for that one
-
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:13 PM) In terms of replacing Pods, how do you feel about Mack starting everyday and playing LF and leading off? I dont like that idea. That might work in the NL, not here though unfortuneately

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 11:35 AM) I don't think we can afford Zito. I dont think the SOX can afford to NOT sign Zito. Everyone forgets, the Tigers have money to spend, and the taste of success is addictive. The Tigers are going to get better next season, the SOX better know this.
-
I know the season isnt "over" yet, but Ive already written 2006 off and have looked to 07 already. There are a number of Bullpen FA's available in the offseason that the SOX can pick off the pile to help there. This is a Must. Also, Starting Pitching. We need some again, and Barry Zito should be pursued at all costs, even it means dealing Freddy Garcia. Zito gives us another lefty in the rotation with an altogether different look from Buerhles. We need Barry Zito in a SOX uniform, as much as we need to Keep Him Away from the Tigers/Yankees/RedSox in the offseason. Zito going to one of our rivals would be very disheartening. Vazquez, I dont want him in a SOX uniform next year. Kenny can be creative and get something in return for him. Do It Kenny.........but dont make a Pittsburgh-Pirate-esque trade and give the guy away. Get equal return, if not, Vazquez to the bullpen. I honestly believe Vazquez will be very good in the BP for the SOX and he can reinvent himself, much like Kirk McCaskill did for the SOX in 93. A solid outfielder/leadoff person puts the SOX right back in the forefront and again one of the teams favored to win it all
-
Vazquez' shortcomings were discussed weeks ago, and Ozzie hasnt listened neither to the fanbase, nor to reality. Weve lost at least 5 games in the standings since then.

The Silver Cloud Thread from a Raging Pessimist

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:19 AM) Those of you who might remember me from last year would remember how I wished and wished that we could have a season like Cleveland's last year, without the ending. I was so emotionally drained from the September swoon that clinching in Detroit wasn't joyous, it was a relief. GO SOX! I was thinking about your post over the weekend, and I thought man, how "exciting" would it be to go on a TEAR like the Indians did. They had to play bigtime in combination with us collapsing down the stretch. What ALMOST happened last year wouldve been a collapse for the Ages, and it was no wonder that the media rightly & wrongly hyped that up. SOX fans were in Panic Mode and again, rightly so, things were not going our way. I hated being in that position as a fan, for the months of August and September, like a bad movie, where you know your going to end up the victim, you just have to wait out your fate. Thank goodness for Tampa. When we clinched, I too wasnt "celebrating" as much as I was "sighing" in relief. I know in certain SOX fan circles, it was very very Taboo and Uncool to be "worried" as a fanbase, but you know what, I was and I hated that feeling. Id love to have a "magical" ride like the Indians had, winning game after game, with all of the momentum (hahaha, I said Momentum) in your favor, putting mounting pressure on the team in front of you -
QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 30, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) This season the Tigers are 70-34 (.673) if they encounter a similar slump for the rest of the season and play .533 ball the rest of the way they go 31-27 and finish up 101-61 for the sox to catch up to that mark they have to go 40-19 (.677) the rest of the season Thats what drove me freaking nuts in April and May, giving ball games away like Candy on Christmas day. The Tigers werent giving anything away and I said it back then, these things add up. Id love to have those 2 games back from April, and the 2 games back in May, plus the 4 in June .............. *Sighs* QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 07:17 AM) I prefer to dwell on the positives; Nate Robertson Post ASB - 6.86 ERA Kenny Rogers Post ASB - 10.97 ERA Jeremy Bonderman Post ASB - 4.56 ERA Lucky for them, Verlander has won 3 of his starts, and Miner continues to float above water. Those are good stats, but again, if the stupid SOX had just stayed closer, it would put the pressure on the Tiggers knowing that as Great as theyve been playing, the SOX arent/werent going away. Believe me, momentum (hahahaaha, I said MOMENTUM) plays a huge part in winning/losing streaks. Look at where we are ....... 8 games back, and weve let the Twins/Yankees jump back in this too. Wouldve been great knowing the Tigers are only 1 game ahead, and pitching not so great.
-
I was mad when we lost, but I dont blame Bobby. Hes carried a heavy load the last few weeks, with the bullpen continueing to be a joke. What worries me, is that if Vazquez, Buehrle continue to pitch like schmucks, and wear down an already thin bullpen, its going to carry over to Jenks and by the time September comes, this team will slide to .500 QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:31 AM) Since the Boston series before the ASB, the entire pitching staff has been horrible. The Starting Pitchers have a 5.74 ERA and the Relievers have a 5.24 ERA. Now if you also include that the Relievers have allowed several inherited runners to score, then they have actually performed worse than the starters. Even in this slump the offense is still averaging 4.5 runs a game, but the pitching/defense is letting up over 6. yechhhhhhhhhhhh. Those stats just made me sick.
-
In a nutshell, June started out great, we gave away a couple games during the month we shouldve won (and boy would it be GREAT to have those 3-4 games back now, we'd be 4.5 out instead of 8), but the end of the month, esp the last week, the SOX began playing very badly, the pitching going SOUTH as well as our situational hitting. It was at this time that we saw our 2 game deficit begin growing. July saw the SOX continue to play sloppily, with every facet of the team playing C+ baseball, while the teams chasing us, the Yankees and Twins continue to play excellent and passed us up. July for the most part has been miserable, and to me, it was Buehrles HORRENDOUS start on 7/2 that put the exclamation point on the pitching staffs problems. Baseball Tonite said recently that the SOX shouldnt even bother looking at the Tigers anymore, and concentrate now on the Yankees, Twins, BlueJays for the Wild Card. A lots happened ...........

The whole series was freaking UGLY. UGLY UGLY UGLY. Yeah, was nice to see that comeback friday nite, very cool, the kind of game that starts winning streaks. Saturdays game was like watching some bad NL teams play, yechhhhh. I didnt want the bullpen to get involved because I KNEW we wouldnt get a good start out of Javy Sunday. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 31, 2006 -> 02:13 AM) I don't think Saturday had anything to do with Sunday. Our bullpen hasn't exactly been consistently good. Going into the Series, you knew unfortuneately that you were going to lose on Sunday no matter what with Vazquez pitching, so your already down 0-1. Winning Friday nites game the way we did put us in line to win Saturdays and at least be guaranteed to win the series. Saturday was ugly, way too many hits given up........and Ozz had to use the bp because the other guys couldnt get anyone out, but we took 2 of 3. Bad thing is we continued to lose ground .....

QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jul 29, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) Javy sounds pissed at himself. He sounds fired up. I think he is still gonna have a big second half. I hope he stops using his curve ball somuch. I liked that he didnt try to blame anyone else. He"s being a man about it and owning up to it. This is the 2nd half ...........

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 12:14 PM) Exactly! So am I writing the letter? I'm volunteering. I'm just confused as to whom to send it: Jerry, or Brooks? We have to go higher up than the woman who's aparently running this fiasco. Send the letter and put ATTN: GRINDER BASH FIASCO They'll get it to the right people This should be known as Grinder Bash 2006: A Thank You from the SOX to a Fraction of our Season Ticket Base

QUOTE(WSC2005 @ Jul 28, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) In general, I've found that the White Sox will screw up events such as this if it is humanly possible. Any one could tell ahead of time that sending out tickets stating that they will "Admit one person" followed by resending additional tickets a few days before the event that are actually the tickets for admittance would cause problems. And having employees who turn away customers, arguably their BEST customers, because of White Sox caused confusion is the ultimate example of how not to run customer service. As Soon as I saw that Invitation which CLEARLY SAID - ADMIT ONE - then in fineprint, it says to RSVP for another ticket, I knew the SOX again dropped the ball on this. Its almost like the SOX purposely are trying to make things way more difficult than it needs to be. They should NEVER turn anyone away, anyone with a ticket .... SHOULD GET IN. What are they thinking? This wasnt some contest where "the first 1000 customers get in free". If theyre going to throw a ThankYou party for All of their Season Ticket Base, then plan for ALL of your Season Ticket Base to be there, not only 25% of them.

Anybody Else Getting Burned on this Grinder Party Thing?

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 02:15 PM) I RSVP'd the last week, well before the deadline, only to find out from my boss that you're supposed to get tix in the mail as well--what they sent you in the mail originally look like the tix you need; they're NOT. So when that didn't happen I called yesterday and left detailed message along with my customer number. No call back. This morning I called again and when I mentioned what I was calling for, the person at the White Sox audibly sighed and passed me on to the sales agents. I said something to the effect of "I guess this is becoming a problem" he grunted "Yeah." Then I get the vox mail for some agent and I leave message, again detailed. He calls while I'm at lunch and says... They have no record of me ever rsvp'ing. Here it comes. You know, I hate when I follow the rules, and I get screwed. Especially by a team that I've poured so much money into over the years. This was supposed to be a "thank you" from them, now it's turning into a "f____ you." The SOX did drop the ball this time with this, making it way more difficult than it needed to be with the rsvp'ing, Pin Number for certificates etc etc. Next time they wont do this system. -
The Silver Cloud Thread from a Raging Pessimist

Shouldnt this be called the Fluffy Cloud Thread? Silver Cloud means Dark I believe -
QUOTE(ILoveThisGame @ Jul 26, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) I am a new member to soxtalk and I have been following this team all season long. It seems to me that Ozzie is losing the respect from his players. Look at Sunday for instance...Yelling at Garland in front of everyone, in front of the cameras! But Ozzie REGAINED the respect by apologizing to Garland afterwards. KUDOS to Garland for letting Ozzie yell at him and taking it with a grain of salt. And Kudos to Ozz for being a man and apologizing. That event will go a long way for both involved. Ozzie is going thru a point right now where he is having to adjust to the team/situation. It happens every year, with every manager. I trust him to do the right thing, Im just worried he'll do it too late for this season is all Im worried about

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 27, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Hey if the Twins and Tigers continue to play .800 ball, THEY DESERVE THE DIVISION and I'll tip my hat to them and hold my head high. Not many teams will catch teams that are playing that well. Hey, and this is the thing that SOX fans have to acknowledge. The Tigers are US in 05. Cant tell you how many times ive been out, and someone will come up to me and say HEY SOX FAN HOW BOUT THOSE TIGERS? expecting me to say they suck or whatever. I say hey man, those Tigers are something else. They are just like us last year, doing all the little things to win. I have no problem complimenting a team like that, and you know what, if we lose to them, it just tells you how good our Division and League is. If your team has a stretch of Phoniness and that costs them the division, so be it. I wouldnt want it any other way. We know what this teams capable of , but if they dont want to execute, bunt right, make good pitches, than let the Tigers run away with it. It feels bad, but were losing to a very good team. I also remind Tiger fans that theyre team is being run by a lot of Ex SOX front office staff, so we deserve some props too

To me, it started during the Houston Series at home. The Sunday nite game was BRUTAL. absolutely Brutal. We looked terrible, and managed to come back, but COULDNT win the game and finish the job. That was the start. Pittsburgh series, to tell you the truth we didnt look good either, and couldnt get runners around the bases. The Cub series? THATS where the SOX were Exposed in my opinion........ The SOX picked up a lot of bad habits playing against a Garbage Team in a Garbage Stadium. Sox gave up a ton of hits that series, left tons of guys, played awful outfield defense, brutal situational hitting, it was UGLY UGLY UGLY. When Buehrle got shelled, I think that was the exclamation point ........... I said to someone leaving the stadium ...... "this loss is going to hurt us more than you think"
