QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 06:29 PM) Maybe, but he might be one of those notorious slow starters as well. He's really heating up and his average is climbing rapidly. Knock on wood. He does not like the Cold Weather being from Cuba. Heard him say something about his slow start having to do with the weather last year in an interview.

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) yeah too bad his glove isnt heating up though....tooo many errors... Relax. He's never played MLB SS before this year. If you want to evaluate a player's D that quickly, we can look at the player your screen name is after, Beckham has only a .922 fielding %. My point is, Alexei will be fine, as will Beckham. They look to be very special players for a long time.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Felix Diaz beat the Cubs on a Saturday at Wrigley. I believe Zambrano got the loss for the Cubs. We beat them that Sunday also, as Maddux got the loss for them. That Sunday was the day we traded for Garcia. Yup that's what I remember. I also remember a HR from Big MO to LF.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Actually that was at the Cell, and i was there for that game Thats the same day KW aqcuired big game Freddy. That was by far one of my happiest White Sox days of this decade. The Freddy trade was the next Day . Diaz pitched Saturday, the trade happened Sunday.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2009/06/30/lou-pin...ke-to-play-for/ Pinella Ozzie Larussa Torre All that tells me is that the players polled do not like to win. Retarded Poll if you ask me.

QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) There were at least four pitches he threw last night where I exclaimed "holy s***, where did that come from", sweeping curves for third strikes, dotting corners. I honestly never knew this guy had this in him based on April and May and his career numbers, despite the relatively less amount of success he was able to have. I don't think at any point during last season he was close to this dominant for this many starts in a row. This is the strangest turnaround I've ever seen in one season from one player. Can anyone else think of a player who put such bad numbers up for six weeks, and then incredible numbers? I guess Paul Konerko 2003 comes to mind. Alexei Ramirez 2008 Post May

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) It's not that I would trade places. I'm as thankful as anyone for 2005. But if you're telling me the Sox winning it all in 2005 is more impressive than what the Twins have been able to do since 2001, I think you're crazy (not you personally. I mean in general). I wouldn't trade the Sox 2005 World Series for all 14 Braves Division Championships they had during that run. Obviously I would trade for the 14 if it included their ring.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) Twins? They were a coin flip away last year from winning their 5th division title in 7 years. The Braves won their division 5 times during that span. Oakland got their 4 times. Yeah, I guess if you guarantee me a WS title every 8 years I'd take it. But how realistic is that? You obviously give yourself a better chance to win it all by consistently playing into October. Not pulling a fluke year out of your ass every 5-10 years. Why would you trade places with teams without a ring during that time span?

Id say Shoeless JD Harold Maggs Clee
-
QUOTE (qwerty @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) Shoeless joe jackson, magglio ordonez, jermaine dye, and carlos lee in that order. Lee has really come on strong once he left chicago. In no way was lee a slouch when with us, he hit 152 homeruns while here, which is good for 25 home runs per season. Since he left, not counting this season, lee has hit 129 home runs, which is good for 32.25 home runs per season What about Harold?

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:33 AM) Like I said, we've been bi-polar. You choose to be optimistic. I have no problem with that. But I also have no problem with Caulfield or anybody else not getting too excited just yet. I disagree with the team being bi-polar. This is the best the team has looked all season, regardless of W/L record at any other .500 point of the season. (even when we were 12-10 on May 1, I still did not like what I seen from this team) I would have to say I seen a change since the Detroit series.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:14 AM) I can only speak for myself. But unless you're the Yankees and have an unlimited amount of paper to spend, the best way to consistently contend is to have a healthy/productive farm system. I love KW. He's evolved a great deal as a GM. But I'm 100% sure he'd be the first one to admit that two playoff appearances in eight years, even one that ended with a title, is simply not enough. I'm not content with making the playoffs every 3-5 years. I know you can't win it all every year. But you can, as teams like the Red Sox, Angels, Twins and A's have shown, put yourself in a position to win it all every year. It's amazing to me that this franchise hasn't had back-to-back playoff appearances in like 90 years (although we probably accomplish that feat in '94). I know it's 2009 and this is the only year we should really be focusing on. And I don't recall anybody saying trade Dye, Konerko, Pods or any of our key players if we're in striking distance of Detroit. But if we're not in it, it'd be silly and downright irresponsible not to see what you could get for those guys. This team as currently constructed is not built to win for a number of years (like the Red Sox and Dodgers are). It's either now or never with this current group. Dude, If that was our outcome every 8 years, I would take that every time. The only teams in baseball I would trade 2001-2008 with, would be the Red Sox cardinals and Angels. Think about that for a second. edit: Added cardinals

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:23 AM) He's right, though. This team has been pretty bi-polar all year. I thought they had turned the corner after the sweep of KC. We come home and get waxed by the A's and Indians. Our deficiencies as a team haven't disappeared overnight. We still have below league average production at three positions (although Beckham has been great of late). Two major questions marks in the rotation. And our defense is arguably the worst in baseball (well, outside of the Nationals). I see a rotation of MB-Danks-Floyd-Count (if these guys are on. 1. Who cares about #5 as long as the ERA is A lineup with Power and recent Speed getting around the bases not dependent on the HR. With the possibility of adding The MVP of the AL(April-Sep) imo . and A pretty good Pen. f*** YEAH I will be optimistic! We are 4 games out in the best division to be in.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 08:17 AM) I've been following the team since 1991. So I'd have to say from that year to now the only guy I can think of that's comparable is Maggs. I'd say CLEE too (at least his last couple years with us)

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 10:44 PM) The best free agent signing in team history. I can't disagree with this.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2009 -> 07:46 AM) Glass is half empty or half full, depending on your optimistic or pessimistic viewpoints...mixed in with realistic/pragmatic ones. 1) Beckham is playing out of position, and he probably profiles the best offensively at 2B 2) We pretty much have to play Anderson/Wise and Fields/Getz/Nix in every line-up 3) Quentin might never be healthy again this season... 4) How long can we expect Contreras and Richard to keep pitching as well as they have? 5) Poreda has shown some flashes, but the bullpen has looked more and more vulnerable recently, especially Liney/Dotel/Thornton 6) Pods looked like he was done three years ago, pretty much. How long can his rebirth possibly last, or for him to be injury-free? 7) Ramirez seems a lot like Soriano Lite...he can play you out of and back into games quite easily, but very inconsistent...still, a 700-750 OPS at SS is nothing to be laughed at (see O Cabrera's 2009 stats at what could easily have been a $10 million additional contract and a blocking of either Getz/Beckham from playing time, yes Dick Allen, I remember your ubiquitous comments about them offering him ARB) Well damn... We know the status of your Glass.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 03:38 AM) There is no contending team in the majors that should voluntarily make him their full-time starting LF/CF. He's mediocre defensively, gets bad jumps on the bases, and is too one-dimensional at the plate. sounds like derek jeter most years -

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 02:03 AM) Sure why not. I have the Wizards or the Raptors (if they re-sign Marion) finishing in the top 8 instead of the Bulls next season. And I would assume the Pistons will be signing Ben Gordon and Carloss Boozer this off-season so they'll get back into top 4 contention. I'm thinking Magic Sig for Me or Bulls sig for you. Winner provides loser with sig, as long as it is in good taste. If you have any ground rules to add, let me know. It is also up to the winner to remember this bet. You better not forget, because I sure won't.
