Alexei Ramirez - 2nd in Rookie of Year Voting

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) So what 5 people didn't feel Alexei was one of the 3 best rookies? People with votes should be held accountable. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 04:29 PM) Exactly where he should have finished... Personally I hate that professionals from other countries are considered rookies here, but that is another story. Why? Everyone with an opinion on the matter said that Cuban Baseball is equivalent to AA baseball. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 02:54 PM) To me, looking at that list, you wind up dropping from Jenks to guys like Kevin Gregg, Troy Percival, Billy Wagner, Todd Jones, Huston Street, Takashi Saito, etc. The key point being that once you get past guys around, I dunno, #12 or so, you suddenly start running in to guys with much bigger issues. Significantly higher ERA's, guys who are hurt for 1/2 of the season and who you wind up really needing a backup closer for, guys you just don't trust when they get the ball, guys in danger of losing their closing job, etc. That's just it. Closers come and go all the time. I'm willing to sell high on Bobby now if we get someone to overpay for him. I don't think it will be too long before Bobby is in that group you speak of.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 02:45 PM) Here's the list of about 30 guys who had 15 or more saves last year, in order of # of saves. I think when you look at the names, you probably put Bobby right around #10 in quality. Francisco Rodriguez Jose Valverde Joakim Soria Brad Lidge Jonathan Papelbon Brian Wilson Mariano Rivera Joe Nathan Kerry Wood Francisco Cordero B.J. Ryan George Sherrill Trevor Hoffman Brian Fuentes Bobby Jenks Kevin Gregg Salomon Torres Troy Percival Billy Wagner Brandon Lyon C.J. Wilson Matt Capps Todd Jones Jon Rauch Huston Street Takashi Saito Ryan Franklin J.J. Putz ok, fair enough. That's still not a small group. To make my argument, How much of a dropoff would there be between Bobby and guy # 20? I'm guessing nothing drastic.

QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 11:34 AM) Bottom line: There is a small group of elite closers in baseball. Jenks is in that group. If we get rid of him, we won't have one anymore. I fail to see how it would make our team better next year. Is that small group 15-20 guys?
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 10, 2008 -> 12:59 AM) Maybe I'm wrong but I have a hard time imagining that Red Sox fans are sitting around talking about trading Jonathan Papelbon for the good of their ballclub. (Papelbon is a few months older than Jenks, makes a little more money, and has basically the same amount of MLB service time.) Maybe it's not apples to oranges, It's like comparing red apples to green apples. Not the same. Jenks has had elbow surgery and also has a slightly above average career ERA of 3.09 where Papelbon is at 1.84.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 05:42 PM) I dont think the O-Line was any better lol but ok. Our O-Line hasnt been good really since the A-Train's rookie season. Plus Berrian is a nothing WR, Devin Hester is the same WR just a lot of speed. I dont even really want Rex as our starter, just saying I blame our coaching staff and our O-Line more than anything else. Sure. During Rexy's little streak in 2006, the bears had a top 10 line, easy. -

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Orton had a few good games, Grossman has done the same. Honestly the only 2 games he was overly impressive in was against horrible secondaries in Detroit/Minny. With Berrian, and a much better offensive line? Please do not compare Orton and Rex anymore. sincerely, a 2008 preseason Rex Grossman supporter. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) FOX is f***ing dumb. I get the Dolphins/Seattle game which is fine. Game ends and they send me to the Saints/Atlanta game instead of the Minnesota/GB game. Makes no sense whatsoever. your region is closer to Atlanta? Makes perfect sense actually. -

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) I bet on a new team if given a chance Grossman can be a good QB. When you have a poor O-Line and poor WR's not many QB's are going to be all that good. yeah... except Kyle Orton.. right? -

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 9, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) I'm here, thought we had a chance in the second half. Defense couldnt tackle anybody and we let you run down our throats. Cya for two easy wins in bball and a victory in football next year in Lawrence I tell you what. I'll give you those Bball games. I was already an Illini fan in Bball before my family could convert me. We'll see about that football game though. -

QUOTE (zenryan @ Nov 8, 2008 -> 08:28 PM) you know Nebraska is bad when Husker fans are calling out Kansas fans! LOL . It's not the worst it has been. Last year was the worst. But don't act like the 'canes never had a Dry run. It's schools like Nebraska and Miami that will come back no matter how bad it gets. -

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:41 PM) Whoever came on here and said how good Brandon Marshall is, I haven't seen it. He drops way too many balls, doesn't go for passes across the middle, and can't even run a freaking route. This is the 2nd straight week I've watched him and he has overrated written all over him. LIKE.THE.BILLS.? -

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Oct 25, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) zackly...shoulda made it like Motownsports.com .... Not to be all high and mighty by telling people what to do with their boards, but the fillibuster has/had posters who rarely make a post in the clubhouse. Why not have a www.talkpolitics.com board for their own unique group? yup, like motownsports, realgm etc . I also agree with the filibuster board,

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 01:15 AM) Wow, one really good game and people go nuts. He's a fairly solid big man but he's just not that talented. Even if he did have that kind of offensive repetoire it doesn't look terribly likely that Gay and Mayo would give him enough chances to score. Even in his 26 point game he only got 11 shots, that makes it kind of hard to put up great scoring numbers. You really know it all don't you? Why don't you just apply to be a NBA scout now. Quit wasting your energy on a forum in a thread where maybe 10 people view every day. This is a pointless argument, so I disagree.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 12:49 AM) Um, no, he's nowhere near the athlete and isn't as skilled. He had one great game, but he doesn't have the talent to be much more than about a 10-8 guy. I disagree. Memphis will give him plenty of opportunities to be a 18-12 guy.
