get with her best friend. In all seriousness, if you did pull that off, that would be revenge *10.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) The old guys will, Thome, Konerko, AJ, Crede, JD, Buerhle, Javy -- They all need to be traded The guys that had career years. CQ, A-Ram, Danks, Gavin etc. Trade them while their values are highest Some of the guys like Jenks who just kind of stayed the same, are probably ready to decline. Trade them. I will take this as sarcasm

The poll really should be changed to Who is Most likely to regress? The title comes out as a 100% guarantee that one of our 4 studs has to fall flat on their face. Could it happen? Sure. Guaranteed? No.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 08:17 AM) the poll options for this are terrible. Players generally get better with age, and while all four of these players had great seasons that will be tough to duplicate, that doesn't mean if they don't have as good or better seasons statistically next year that they have regressed. If I had to say who was going to regress next year, I'd tell you Jermaine Dye, but we have already begun to see his regression since 06. Exactly. Players to regress? How about, JD (as mentioned) Thome Vasquez Griffey (scary thought) Ocab Dotel Linebrink Thornton Good thing a few of those players mentioned won't be back (I would think). I would name PK, but, he had such a s***ty year that he is likely to bounce back.

Where is the none of the above option? Because players under 30 tend to get better with age.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:38 AM) also 2005 and now this year... i wonder how kids in their formative years are choosing their allegiances these days. 100whatever years of history doesnt mean that much to a kid. the last 20 seconds are all that matter. not to mention, The white sox have been focusing on the kids lately (south paw, fundamentals etc. )

good for the payroll. Bring 'em in.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) I applaud your enthusiam, young man. Thome's too old to play 1B everyday, an injury waiting to happen, and the Giants are in the process of getting much younger, not older. Lincecum and Cain are pretty much untouchables. Contreras won't pitch again before next August, and maybe never again. Retirement is a possibility. You can't trade a player that's injured. They've already sunk too much money into Zito, they would have no interest adding Javy. Vazquez is the type of pitcher a contending team with a $100 million plus payroll can afford to add to the roster as the 4th/5th starter, as long as he doesn't have to start a game in the post-season. maybe I should have used green Fonts?

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) That Halladay/Rios deal might be the worst trade in the history of not only the Blue Jays, but the entire American League East. While they're at it, they might as well give us Snider and Vernon Wells for Getz, Richard, Jose Martinez and Juan Silverio. What about Vasquez,Thome and Contreras for Lincecum and Rowand? We would get a pitcher who has the potential to be a CY young contender for the next 10 years. Rowand would look better on the basepaths than someone like JD. I'm not sure what the Giants needs are. But, Thome is the Slugger they are lacking since Bonds , Vasquez would be a better fit for the NL and Contreras is the real wild card here. our team can look like this Hudson 2b Ramirez SS CQ LF Dye DH Swisher RF Konerko 1b AJ C Rowand CF Fields 3b Lincecum Buehrle Danks Floyd Who Cares

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 09:27 AM) I'd rather have him next year than Junior. I'd like them both gone. (keeping PK,Swish and Dye)
-
at the right price I would like him back as a utility/insurance guy. What will happen to him is your question though, your guess is as good as mine or anyone here for that matter.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) The .805 OPS thing would be true, if he played CF, 2B, SS or catcher. But a corner infielder or outfielder, he's not quite as rare as you are making him out to be...I agree, unless KW got something good (another team assuming he could/would also have a bounceback year at a corner OF spot or 1B/DH and out of the limelight/pressure of Chicago), it wouldn't make sense to move him, just because he had one bad season. Any more than it would make sense to "banish/exile" Vazquez to the National League because 95% of Sox fans strongly dislike him right now. Well, he hit .836 and .865 the 2 seasons prior to joining the Sox. I am sure he can reach that again this year. If he has another bad year, then yes, cut your losses. These are the calculated risks you must take in baseball.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 07:19 AM) what won't happen? Swisher moved at his lowest value. You don't trade a 27 year old switch hitter, with a .805 career ops and a good contract after his worst year as a pro. That is not how any sane GM operates. (maybe the lower tier of GMs operate that way) . I consider Kenny to be in the top tier of GMs. In fact, If Swisher were on any other team, I would WANT kenny to go after him knowing he could come relatively cheap. Trading Swisher this off season would be very similar to moving Konerko after 2003. (Similar #'s, same age.) Kenny is a Buy Low/Sell High GM.

Count me in for going hard after Melky Cabrera and bringing in an experimental player like corey patterson (as long as he makes less than 3 mil) . -
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 06:25 AM) Uh, because I would rather have Dye than Swisher. It's a pretty easy decision to make, actually. it won't happen. Glad Kenny Williams is the gm and not you.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 06:02 AM) I'm not saying that I like the move at all, and Pierre definitely is Johnny Damon-esque in terms of his arm, but I also don't see KW going out and bidding on many players either, like he thought about the last couple of offseasons. You look at Rowand, Pierre, Torii Hunter, Fukudome, Mathews, Jr., Dave Roberts...all of those guys turned out to be so-so acquisitions at best for their teams, AT BEST. Andruw Jones, maybe the worst signing of all. But the Dodgers actually had the farm system to support so many mistakes with veterans like Pierre, Nomar, Kent, Andruw Jones and Jason Schmidt. I mean, if the White Sox/KW made one mistake ala Cory Snyder, he would be torn apart by the fans at Sox Fest. why not just play pierre 2.0 (jerry owens) for free? I don't think Kenny is that stupid. The man just brought in TCQ and Lexi. Give Kenny more credit. -

Juan Pierre is not coming to the South Side. I don't know where you guys come up with this crap. -
Keep Swish. Why would you trade him at his lowest value?

My post from another thread: I feel good about next year. Guys I want on to see still on the roster for 2009. Lexi Carlos Q AJ (name a catcher who would be a better option) Swish ( I don't believe we should sell low, I think he comes around) Dye Konerko Buehrle Floyd Danks Thornton Linebrink Dotel Richard Russell Jenks Guys I don't want to see in 2009 Javier Vasquez Jose Contreras Jim Thome Joe Crede Ken Griffey Jr. Guys I haven't mentioned, I don't have strong feelings either way if they stay or leave. I would like to see a couple changes though. Move Dye to DH (thome gone). Move Lexi to SS (cabrera gone). I would not throw a fit if cabrera stays though. That gives us 2 positions (2b,of) where we can go after a little more speed. Not necessarily base stealers. I want the sox to get away from nearly EVERY player in the lineup a 1 dimensional home run hitter/base path clogger.

Have fun rooting for cowbells. That's not baseball. I like the team. The bandwagon fans with their cowbells, not so much.

4 players that went home AFTER getting to Tampa

I wanted ALL Those guys gone anyway. Hopefully this seals the deal! -
I can't root for them. I hope Vlad/Papi knocks them out of the playoffs on a walk off grand slam with Balfour pitching.

Only 5 teams in baseball had a longer season than the 2008 White Sox.
