  1. You cannot beat Boston if you're letting the likes of Gabe (batting under .200 in Japan) Kapler, Adam Stern and Alex Cora get on base. Ortiz and Ramirez may be unstoppable, therefore you can't let the bottom of the order contribute
  2. I've bumped this only because I've had a skeptic's revelation. It's not a good one, however. This year's Sox have one thing common with the 2000 Sox. This year's Sox won't score a run in the playoffs either. Just an opinion, based on watching a LOT of games this year. For all the "Smartball" blathering, these guys still don't score much beyond the solo home run. Especially when Pods is out of the lineup or going through a slump. It was Ozuna hitting into that DP yesterday that sealed it for me, for some reason.

  4. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) You never answered my question about Trotsky. I wouldn't hold your breath. Whenever shown to be obviously in error, some posters ignore the proof, or twist it out of context until nobody understands what they are talking about. It's a terrible affliction.
  5. The Catholic crusade against the Albigenses in Southern France (from 1209-1229), under Popes Innocent III., Honorius III. and Gregory IX., was one of the bloodiest tragedies in human history. … The number of Albigenses that perished in the twenty years’ war is estimated at from one to two millions. -- Cushing B. Hassell, History of the Church of God, Chapter XIV. Need I speak to you of the thirty years’ war in Germany, which was mainly instigated by the Jesuits, in order to deprive the Protestants of the right of free religious worship, secured to them by the treaty of Augsburg? Or of the Irish rebellion, of the inhuman butchery of about fifteen millions of Indians in South America, Mexico and Cuba, by the Spanish papists? In short, it is calculated by authentic historians, that papal Rome has shed the blood of sixty-eight millions of the human race in order to establish her unfounded claims to religious dominion (citing Dr. Brownlee’s “Popery an enemy to civil liberty”, p. 105). In addition to the Jesuit or Catholic atrocities of this century already enumerated with some particulars, they massacred 400 Protestants at Grossoto, in Lombardy, July 19th, 1620; are said to have destroyed 400,000 Protestants in Ireland, in 1641, by outright murder, and cold, and hunger, and drowning; … -- Cushing B. Hassell, History of the Church of God, Chapter XVII. To sum up the whole, the Roman Catholic church has caused the ruin, and destruction of a million and a half of Moors in Spain; nearly two millions of Jews in Europe. In Mexico, and South America, including the islands of Cuba and St. Domingo, fifteen millions of Indians, in 40 years, fell victims to popery. And in Europe, and the East Indies, and in America, 50 millions of Protestants, at least, have been murdered by it! Thus the church of Rome stands before the world, “the woman in scarlet, on the scarlet colored Beast.” A church claiming to be Christian, drenched in the blood of sixty-eight millions, and five hundred thousand human beings! -- W. C. Brownlee, Letters in the Roman Catholic controversy, 1834, pp. 347-348. -- Joseph McCabe, The Story of Religious Controversy, Chapter XXV. This suggests that the Christian reconquest of Spain cost this country alone over 20 million lives. This loss could not have resulted from the Plague, because the loss from the Plague was recovered by 1500.
  6. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) You would need to host it somehwere. Than just supply the link for ppl to click on to hear. OK, I'm kind of dumb-- how would I go about doing that?
  7. If there's a way to add a sound file into a post? Like a wav file that would play when you clicked on it?
  8. Ferguson looks like the guy who played Waingrow in the movie Heat. The guy that DeNiro kills near the end
  9. i'm not really an old-timer, but i admit i'm not fully convinced. the yankees aren't that good, although beating them 2 of 3 at home was quite a feat. the pitching has me convinced, the hitting doesn't. not because we don't have guys with .330 ba's, or .400 OBP's, but because there are too many regulars that can't get things done via productive outs or walks. i get more convinced though every game
  10. QUOTE(winodj @ Aug 9, 2005 -> 09:27 AM) Damn I hate it when I get beaten to the S-K references. Noone has mentioned the Breeders? Or the Pixies for that matter (two chicks in that band). I might get shot for this but - - - Yoko Ono. And Tina Turner, solely for the song "Nutbush City Limits." Pixies had only Kim Deal. Black Francis, David Lovering and Joey? Santiago were the other members. Good call on the Breeders, but I think they were too short-lived

  12. No mention of Sleater-Kinney? I think they qualify, no?

    Six Feet Under

    I don't watch the show, but found it funny that this thread shows up right above the "Peter Jenning Dies" thread

  15. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 11:58 AM) I know a lot of you don't like Michael Moore -- but you should really see the episode where he gets together a group of gay people, got into a giant pink winnebago and they went to protest Phelps' protests in different states. It was so hilarious. Where would one find this to see it? That sounds really funny
  16. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) When Ozzie says somebody will be rested for the series, he means for the whole series and probably the first 2 games of the next series too. And Pods has been terrible lately. How many of his CS were in the last few games? I believe he's been caught something like 7 of his last 9 attempts.
  17. QUOTE(The Critic @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:56 AM) This is 100% percent correct. There's a tone of borderline happiness about her death from some posts in this thread that I find disturbing. Not to hijack this thread in the "dead horse" direction, but I am curious to know how many in the "it's her own damned fault, the stupid rich whore" camp would call themselves children of god in one way or another? Just a guess, but I think all of them.....
  18. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 5, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) There is a family that goes on the Howard Stern show and they are the 'God Hates f**s' family....so then Howard puts them on Howie-weird squares with lesbian strippers, and 'overly' gay men....classic TV. That being said, these people are sick f***s. I'm not much of a religious person, despite being in catholic schools for 22 years, but if there is a hell, these people will be in it. I think they're a product of their own sheer stupidity. Seriously, there is not one member of this group(to say they're a church does a disservice to churches) that wouldn't get beat by a baboon in a one-on-one game of Wheel of Fortune.
  19. Someone should show up at the funeral of a member of this retard circus with a sign that says "God hates Morons" or "Religion is Doomed" And hopefully this funeral is the result of a member being rolled by a Sherman tank.
  20. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 10:01 AM) http://www.nynewsday.com/news/local/crime/...epage-breaking2 In general, I support the ACLU, but they need to get their heads out of their asses on this one.
  21. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2005 -> 09:53 AM) Are you guys interested in playing? I'll play if it's 16". Wong & Owens = Softball Snob.
  22. 12" NOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Shame on you! Blasphemer! 16" is the only way to go. I have plenty of equipment to share
