  1. For years, I worked as a tour guide for a charter service-- one of those dorks that stand at the front of a bus with a microphone. One of the most popular types of tours I gave were "haunted" tours. I never saw/heard/felt anything. No Resurrection Mary, no phantom car at BAchelor's Grove, no mysterious footsteps at the Red Lion, etc. I think it's people's imaginations running amok.
  2. This might be the only non-ass backward move a politician has made all week!

    Al's Beef

    QUOTE(Stocking @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) I saw someone mention Al's Beef and then another posting about trading David Wells for some beef and it got me thinking. I've heard plenty of times that Al's Beef is the best, and well i didnt think it was that special. any opinions? Bueno Beef is way bettter IMO. Al's is HUGELY overrated IMO. The quality has gone down substantially over the last 10 years or so. Johnnie's in Elmwood Park, or Tony's on about 71st and Pulaski are some of my favorites
  4. Here's how I see it. The ACLU, as an organization, represents freedom and equality for everyone, no matter how ass-backwards or ridiculous the group/rantings. By sticking to this philosophy, I can understand why they would go to bat for the KKK -- can't say free speech for all, then say (except people who say things we don't agree with). That would be completely against the main principle they stand for. However, I can also see why they wouldn't want someone tied to the Minutemen or any other like-minded group from REPRESENTING the ACLU. I mean, if the people of the ACLU are supposed to represent anyone and everyone being unfairly treated, then you can't have obviously biased people in charge of making sure all get equal treatment. Therefore, I don't find it hypocritical at all for the ACLU to represent the KKK, yet do not want Mr. Minuteman actually representing the organization. Do I make any sense here?
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) If Bush nominates a moderate to slightly conservative, he'll have my respect and admiration. If he goes neanderthal, juts out his jaw, and plays wild west sheriff, I will not be happy. Bottom line, if conservatives and liberals are disappointed, it's about right. Prepare to not be happy.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2005 -> 04:13 PM) White singles down the LF line for a 2B.
  7. To any of you who are much more proficient than I am at Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, et al: I have an idea of a sig I would like to use, ,but need help putting it together. Would one of you be kind enough to help me out? IM me if you're willing, and I'll fill you in on the details. Thanks!
  8. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 01:30 PM) Source please? INterestingly enough, unless I'm stupid(entirely possible), Disney isn't even listed amongst the top gay-friendly companies according to gay.com: http://www.gay.com/business/article.html?c...rnum=311&page=1
  9. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 08:24 AM) Nice. Very classy. On behalf of Delusional Colombians for the Sainthood of PJPII everywhere, this woman thanks you.
  10. Whatever the number, I'm sure enough people with bulls*** stories like this one will surface in order to fill the quota.
  11. I also wonder how enforceable a bill like this would be. For example, what if I drew a picture of the flag and burned it, is that illegal? What if I accidentally spilled something on a flag, then used it to clean up the rest of the spill, is that illegal? What if I peed on a T-shirt with the flag on it, is that illegal? What becomes of anyone that owns an early copy of the Black Crowes' Amorica album?
  12. QUOTE(mreye @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) The cross is a symbol. Should the burning of it also be protected? Yes.
  13. So many more pressing issues to deal with in this country, so many other problems that need to be fixed, and yet Congress is wasting time and tax dollars(again) on a petty concern. Here's a bill you can pass: Make it ILLEGAL for anyone who has held any level of political office, from holding a political office for the next 20 years. Clean f***ing house.
  14. QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:35 AM) Somebody mentioned on WSCR the thought of trying to move Cotts to fill the spot. I've gone back and forth on this one, but I think in the end it would be a mistake. When we tried starting him last year, it really seemed to screw him up for the rest of the year. I say just take our lumps with Mac now. Even if he can't help us in 2005, it may pay some good dividends for us down the road. Cotts is a two-pitch pitcher, and you don't find too many starters that only throw 2 pitches.
  15. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 09:19 AM) Potentially, you wouldn't have the same Contreras if we didn't have El Duque. Clement would be better than Orlando, but you might very well have El Gasolino part II in Contreras.
  16. I'd rather have Randa than Hillenbrand. Randa is a much smarter hitter.
  17. I'm sold on Uribe defensively, but not at all offensively. He reminds me a little bit of Shea Hillenbrand -- a guy who never walks but can make contact with pretty much anything you throw at him. These guys are streaky hitters, and you either have to accept it or get rid of him because these guys don't have a history of changing. Since he's normally your 8th or 9th hitter, you really don't need that much out of him. The problem though is that your normal 7-8-9 hitters(Pierzynski, Crede and Uribe) are all kind of like that. To varying degrees, yes, but none of them ever walk much, and are all streaky hitters. If they are all on cold streaks at the same time, it's like 3 useless spots in your order.
  18. My head just exploded. I think I'll go check out the "Hot Chick 2003 Contest" thread.
  19. I've got an Inspiron 9300. I'm not one for those touchpad mouse thingies, but other than that I like it alot.
  20. QUOTE(nvxplorer @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 02:34 PM) I agree. What the hell does this mean: Reinsdorf said the team "absolutely" would have been better off the past 10 years had it been in Addison but, "Ten years from now, I think we'll be better off where we are." Is this just Reinsdorf babbling, or does he have something planned that will make it better ten years from now? I can't read minds, but I think he's referring to the continued makeover of the Bridgeport neighborhood, as well as the neighborhood directly across the Ryan. Once those projects are gone, and replaced with a more affulent populace(and it will) and some bars/restaurants, the area will be much better than Addison. He's absolutely right though, in that if the Sox's stadium was in any west/southwest suburb, they'd draw much better than they currently do.
  21. You're removing the intangible benefits of having him on base. You take him out of the lineup, and this team is 10 wins worse, easily. You do not take a guy like this out of your lineup(especially given a lineup that is struggling to score) once a week. If you think Iguchi or Harris come even close to creating the havoc Pods does, you've had your nose in the stat books too long. It means nothing. Gload, having had the benefit of being with the team all year would certainly have an advantage over rookies just called up that A)Have never seen most big league pitchers and B)Are anxious and pressing to make a good impression--never a recipe for success. It's also one measly month. He's struck out once every 5.5 at-bats in his career, compared to Konerko's career ratio of once per 6.6 at-bats. Is there a second Gload on the Sox that I'm not aware of? I also would not feel comfortable calling a 29 year old player with 309 career at-bats a "solid hitter." He's had 47 at-bats CAREER vs. LHP. Slow down. Again, maybe referring to the mystery Gload, because Ross Gload is one of the worst outfielders in MLB. I don't care what his stats say, I've seen enough of him to know that he is brutal in the OF. Did you watch last year's Sox-Cubs series, for example?
  22. A few things: I didn't say he had no worth, I said you won't get much for him. And you won't. What is Everett's value right now? An average bullpen guy? A 4th outfielder? Not much more than that. I think teams make their own decisions. The INdians bringing back Juan Gone a second(or third?) time didn't make every other team end questioning whether he was a selfish player or not. 6 of one, half-dozen of another. You're missing my point however. I hope you're right, but I wouldn't feel comfortable making the season-long decision on Dye based on the last 2 weeks.
  23. I don't think either will be traded. Don't trade Carl, because You can't assume that Frank is 100% and will be the player he was 2 years ago--not yet anyways. Should Frank get hurt again, I do not feel comfortable with Gload, Timo or Ozuna as the everyday DH. Not with this lineup. You're not going to get much for Everett anyways, with his subpar average and OBP, the whisperings about a wrist injury, and lingering questions about his character. If Carl can accept his role as 4th outfielder(at least until Dye s***s or gets off the pot), which I think he will, he's a very valuable bat to come off the bench. Veteran switch-hitting power threats can be VERY important in the late innings of important games. As for trading Frank, he isn't going anywhere with that contract. Consider it a Roid-less Sammy Sosa arrangement.
  24. I've heard it said many times that the generation coming up now will be the first in American(World?) history to be worse off than the one preceeding it. I believe things like this are contributing to that trend.
