Im just really encouraged by BA at this point, which I think is getting lost in the back and forth debate of vets who will produce. If BA can continue to walk, hit the pitches he can hit and turn the lineup over, we may have something here. And its funny the leadoff debates have stopped since Getz started elevating his game. That kid can play. He may never be a star, and may actually end up playing a utility role for most of his career, but one has to be encouraged by what they see.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 11:36 AM) I don't think you have. Absolutely no one said to release the guy. You're smoking some Danks. Always. But I take "giving up on him" and "letting him go" as wanting the guy off the team. He was noticably a step slow last night, but still made his presence felt. I was actually surprised he got that shot off considering how much it was rolling. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 11:49 PM) we just don't know if that's possible because of Rockraines' boy. Just because I oppose your nonsensical rants blaming losing streaks on a player who YOU were excited to sign, doesnt mean he's my boy, in fact I dont like him much at all. You should bookmark post 1731 in this thread to remember how ridiculous you are on this subject. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:36 AM) Well, I just went up to the guy and said "my buddy told me he paid the tab last night, we were wasted, and this morning he said he didn't... was there an open tab?" I don't know if they believed it or whatever, but by paying hte tab they didn't seem to care one way or the other. Yeah, they keep receipts... the tab was $75. I paid it, added $20, all is well. Honestly, good for you. The service industry is a very thankless industry for the most part, and people ditch out on tabs even with good service and quality of food. In this economy, many of those servers may have taken that job to supplement their families income, and some folks need to remember that that 20 dollar tab you skipped out on and thought it was hilarious could have been needed for some diapers for the children of a very hard working mother or father.

I mean, this has to be the worst possible outcome when you start a thread like this. The player in question comes out, kills the ball all over the field, mashes a monster oppo HR and is featured on sportcenter as the impressive player of the game.

QUOTE (goblue5699 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 08:36 PM) I'm hoping Percy Harvin's extracurricular activities scares off a few teams and he falls to the Bears in the second round, but that's really wishful thinking. Im still hoping that the SI covers of all the USC backers makes Little Animal slip down to the Bears. -

Wow, releasing one of the league's best young players because he missed a snap shot on a bouncing rolling puck, now I've seen everything. This thread is worse than a Sox loser thread. Seabrook, Walker, and H-Jalms had horrid games IMO. Seabs was a direct contributor to 2 goals against, which cannot happen. Big Buff was great last night, but other players need to take his cue and start asserting themselves in the offensive zone. Some of the D had good games (Barker, Soup, Keith for the most part) and guys like Pahlsson stepped up, but we need more contribution from some of their other linemates as well. -

Buff has taken his game to a new level, he is all over the place. The D needs to keep pinching, its working wonders. I hope Seabrook gets his head out of his ass in the 3rd. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Contreras was showing signs of being very effective with that cutter when he'd drop down to sidearm and throw it across the outside front corner of the plate against righties...virtually unhittable. Thats actually his 2-seamer. He has been throwing his cutter from the over the top slot mostly so far, its hard to notice since it cuts so late. Its still a work in progress. And that 2-seamer that you mentioned was one of his most dominant pitches when he went on that roll in 06.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Yes, tonight is a big game. With Kaner back we should be more comfortable. I'd like to see some calls on the after the whistle crap tonight. I was watching Ducks v Sharks last night and although there was some of it, the refs pretty much showed they would deal with too much of it by putting some guys in the box. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 04:09 PM) Jose throws a cutter? Yes, to both sides of the plate. He started working on it last season and was showcasing it in the start where he got hurt.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 22, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Count's start with Detroit, I thought he pitched really well that day. You can tell he gets gassed, though about the third time through the lineup. That's when he starts leaving his pitches up and opening up more. I don't know if it's a stamina thing or if it's a mental thing. It seems to me his velocity is there but his control isn't - and I'll take that scenario, if he can get himself back into the right rythym late in games. He should have been yanked after about 80 pitches last night, he was clearly tired.

He most likely pressing considering he defected from his home and got a huge contract with a major league team and wants to do well and impress. I think he finishes strong and pushes for time next spring.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 05:39 PM) Oh yeah, my wife has come home crying a few times when this stuff happened to her. Basically as you are ordering food and drinks the waitresses are "paying" for the food and drinks in the computer. When you pay your bill, you are paying what they have fronted for you. When you dine and dash, that food comes out of their tips when they cash out at the end of the night and the drawers are counted out. Yup. And that error in your order or it taking a long time may have zero to do with the waitstaff and yet dumbass asshole people still dine and ditch and steal money out of people's pockets.

Clayton Richard should stay in the bullpen where he belongs. Contreras will be fine, its f***ing April.
-
LOL, "he needs to step up or else." He's back from a long time off and is our 5th starter, give me a break. Last night he faced a lineup of almost entirely lefties. As all of us experts know, his out pitch to lefties is his forkball, which hasnt come around yet this season. He will come around and go on a hot streak, I have no doubt about it. The good signs are the life on his fastball and his early ability to at least control his 2-seamer to righties.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 09:06 AM) No, YOU said it has an affect on Latin players. So try and stay on the subject and quit using other sports as basis for your argument, especially a sport where latin players are an extremely small minority Especially when the evidence is "I am sure someone did a study somewhere."

Well, Allen, Beckham, and probably an Arm or two will have to be on the major league roster next year, so we dont need to fill those spots. I see Allen being a possible DH or 1B which means he splits those positions with Konerko. I dont think Dye or Thome will be back.

Is anyone staying in the White Sox "haunted hotel"?
RockRaines replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) Most "home" teams get contracts that are reduced rates and pass them on to "road" teams. Of course, it's up to the teams whether or not they use the reduced rate hotels. Where did you get that from? All MLB teams have the same corp rate, its not unlike any other large corporation. -
I actually like marquez's stuff, I think he'll figure it out, he has a major league arm IMO.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) He's hitting about as well as Frank would if he were on the team. Sorry Thome lovers but he's done. Yeah he'll have a few HRs this year but I'll be amazed if he hits .250. When he gets hurt this season (which will happen) I hope they bring up Allen to DH.

RockRaines replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 11:02 AM) It's entirely possible the local team may have better connections with hotels, and thus the teams might coordinate for road trips. Sox help the Rays get in to hotel when they're in town, and vice-versa. Come on, they are a pro team, they have all the connections they need. They literally have a staff of several people whose only job is to set up travel reservations. -

RockRaines replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (mreye @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 10:23 AM) Well maybe not a specific hotel, but maybe a list of "choice" places. To be clear I'm not trying to be a dick, but why would they do that? Why would the White Sox as a professional team take suggestions of where to stay on a road trip they have been on many times with their own preferred hotel deals, locations, etc. -
Cincy is a good one and Ill be there again this year.
