  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I'm all for clearing up payroll for upgrades, but Rock's proposed lineup had no other upgrades made with that money. Well, I never said it was finished. Most likely KW would be flipping Javy anyway, and I've said numerous times on here the last few days that there was some rumored internal conversation around some bigger contracts, which would be the money we have saved. Lets say KW signs Furcal with some of that money and moves Alexei to CF. There are alot of things that could happen after trading Dye.
  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:36 PM) I'll bet he doesn't. He's 19 years old. Most guys that are 19 are playing in rookie ball, not even in class A. Maybe the kid is a phenom, in the mold of Andruw Jones and Miguel Cabrera and is ready to play at the age of 20. But bear in mind most US kids who are drafted out of high school at the age of 18 take at least 3 years to make the bigs. Most college guys drafted at the age of 21-22 take at least a year, usually two. I hope I'm wrong, and this kid is ready to play, right away, but I'll be very, very surprised. Besides, you say alexei didn't play because of Uribe, well maybe viciedo won't play because of Betemit...even if he is ready Yes, but most 15-16 year olds arent playing pro ball. Its pretty hard to compare what he has done to a typical 19 year old in the states.
  3. QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:29 PM) im not a fan of that lineup at all...3 enourmous unknowns in getz fields and viciedo....plus freel who hasn't ever really had a starting gig, and has never played in the AL...Do people really think viciedo is gonna play right away? I sure don't ....Alexei was nearly sent to AAA and still took a month and half to break the lineup at the age of 26....I'll be shocked if he's on the major league roster next year... The only reason it took him that long to break the starting lineup is because of Juan Uribe. I will bet on Viciedo starting for us out of ST.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:28 PM) Yuck yuck yuck. Not only would that team have a payroll of about 75 million, but it would likely cost KW and Ozzie their jobs. Bailey was throwing 91 mph last season, and there's serious concerns about just how he got his velocity up to the 96-97 mph range when he was younger. So....its a bad thing to have room on the payroll? And I think the #1 and #2 hitters have a better OBP and better speed than our team last season. The bottom of the order also has speed and power potential. I really dont mind it at all. MPH is MPH, the guy is a 22 year old highly talented prospect, I would take him in a heartbeat.
  5. Seriously though, who the hell said this kid was overweight, I have been searching all over the internet for pics and not one of them shows him looking heavy.
  6. 1. Freel CF 2. Getz 2B 3. Q RF 4. Thome DH 5 Kong 1b 6. Alexei SS 7. AJP C 8. Fields LF 9. Viciedo 3B 1. Buehrle 2. Floyd 3. Danks 4. Javy 5. Bailey
  7. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 01:16 PM) Kenny has proved in the past to make deals for young pitching and it usually pans out to our benefit. However, I hope he waits around to see where the market goes before he shops Dye. The only team I would actively talk to would be Tampa. Edwin Jackson for JD would be awesome. Im sure Tampa would consider that if we eat about half of JDs contract. I'd honestly rather have Bailey than Edwin Jackson.
  8. QUOTE (The Critic @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 11:25 AM) If the Hawks got CheapShot back I'd ban myself from watching them until he dragged his old, slow, dirty ass into retirement. I think I like Barry Bonds more than I like CheapShot. He's easily one of my favorite blackhawks of all time. Great guy.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:52 AM) I love that the Blackhawks finally have a legitimate head coach instead of some re-tread from within the organization. I hope the people who were mad that Savvy is gone have finally come to their senses.
  10. QUOTE (TCQ @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 07:01 PM) This is a sad say in chicago radio i loved eddie an jobo and will miss them terrible. Erica on the other hand should never work in radio again... Yeah, pretty good comparison, guys who have been in radio for 20+ years vs someone who has been for 3.
  11. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) If the trade is announced by the media, KW never does it. He keeps it totally under the radar. I dont think this one was supposed to be leaked. It was heard from a Reds front office worker. I think if you can grab a young arm like Bailey, you do it. I also think KW is targeting (people are going to hate this and talk about his personal life) Ryan Freel for CF and lead off in this deal.
  12. If Poreda can develop a plus change he will be a very good starter. Thats really the key to his development and i think the org knows it. Beckham may just be up in the bigs earlier than most thought.
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) That episode was hilarious. It was the best in awhile. And, WTF Heroes, why must you torment me like this??? Why???????? Got damn I love that show.
  14. Per ESPN. I hope this isnt the deal I have been hearing about.
  15. SF-where buying old ball players past their prime is the standard.
  16. They also fired my friend Erica that worked on the show with them.
  17. QUOTE (Wanne @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 11:16 AM) I agree with TBolt... I think he'll start out down in the order when he comes up (7-8-9)...but eventually end up in the 2 hole. I honestly don't think it'll make any difference...once he's up and gets adjusted...he'll be successful. That whole "choppy swing" thing still cracks me up. I think he'll be in the two hole or the 5 spot. He isnt going to hit for a ton of power, but has great strike zone recognition, will get on base at a good pace and hit into the gaps.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 02:06 PM) So back to the original deal involving Vazquez and Jenks to the Mets... Anymore talk going on anywhere about this, or has it died down? It was and will always be a smokescreen.
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) Yes we have Getz and Nix, Nix will probably be our AAA 2B this season and Getz would be a better fit in Ozunas role as MI sub. There is no reason to rush Beckham and if he is ready mid-summer you can always spin Iwamura again for whatever need you have at the time. Jackson is relished for the same reasons as Daniel Cabrera, everyone thinks if you go out and get a guy who throws hard you can tame him down and teach him control, but he is who he is, effectively wild at times but walks too many people. He would be our best K pitcher, but I am not sold on him at all. Our rotation is in good shape at the moment with MB, Danks, Floyd, Javy, Count*/Marquez/Richard/Poreda. Why block your best prospect and two good younger guys with a player you dont need? And then we just "spin" him off? Thats not a very good management strategy. Secondly, you feel good with Marquez/Richard/Poreda but you arent sold on Edwin Jackson? That makes zero sense. Jackson has improve his ERA, WHIP and BAA each season he has pitched in the majors. He is only 25 years old. I would put money on him to outperform all of those guys you just listed next season.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 09:57 AM) Jackson has too little control and has had a tendency to leave his pitches up and get them crushed, he would give up a lot more HR's in the Cell. I think someone like Hellickson would make more sense given the direction the team seems to be headed, less power pitchers and more guys that can get outs through putting the ball in play. First of all, we dont need another 2B when we have 2 on the roster and have another who may be up this summer. Secondly, Jackson is a perfect pitcher for Coop to work with. He takes a little mph of his fastball, works on controlling it and possibly it adds some movement and you have a serviceable middle of the rotation guy.
  21. Ya, i remember when I first starting getting my seasons it was under 1K. Now I am well over 2k
  22. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Nov 24, 2008 -> 08:18 AM) thats not exactly comforting Check it out. His pull heavy swing on you tube and low finish with his body looks like Uribe.
  23. Holy crap, I just watched some video of Dayan on youtube, the finish of his swing looks JUST like Uribe's
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 10:38 PM) Alabama vs. Utah is a bad idea. Alabama would probably run for 250 to 300 yards on Utah, have the ball for 40 minutes, and win easily. Complete physical mismatch. Im thinking that the only fair matchup for Utah and Boise is against each other.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) USC's defense can be just as dominant as the offenses as the other 3, that's why they belong in that equation IMO. Yes they do, they have the talent to be in that conversation, but they still shouldnt since they arent even going to win their own conference.
