QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:44 AM) My edited message mentions that Singleton ASKED to be let out of his contract. He wasn't fired or asked to leave. Farmer's always been a story-telling guy. Some people like that and some people don't. Given that baseball games typically move at a snail's pace, I don't find it particularly distracting. Singleton didn't add anything of substance to the broadcast, which is why he sucked. Stoney is a walking baseball encyclopedia who would even enhance the commentary of HOF broadcasters. Yeah, thats the official word, but lets not kid ourselves, he had no future on our radio station. Thats why I like Stone, he is knowledgeable and holds the players accountable. I've said it a million times, if Rooney stayed and was on the air with Stone, our heads would explode from greatness.

Jeff Niemann was who beat charlotte. IIRC he gave our big club some trouble.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:37 AM) Thanks for your help. I was kind of worried they weren't the cheapest tickets. He most likely has to fax something in that says he really lost the tickets.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:34 AM) More likely that he's gone because ESPN offered him more money and that he wasn't that good in the booth to begin with. Exactly, he was terrible, that was my point. Farmer needs someone else who can smooth him out and keep him on task, otherwise he will continue to ignore the pbp and talk about his old playing days, and random high school stories.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:53 AM) Are we talking about the catcher standing up and squeezing the glove twice at the eyes so the pitcher knows to throw high? Thats bush league? I thought that was standard for a catcher calling for the high heat? No, watch what Soto did against the Sox. He blatantly put his mitt in front of the pitchers view and shook it to distract them before pitches, then moved outside. It wasnt a typical gamesmanship moving catcher type situation, he stepped over that line and really went to somewhat taunt the hitters. It happened when we were being blown out at Wrigley.

QUOTE (tommy @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:30 AM) I realize this probably isn't the section I should be posting in. Moderators please move appropriately if necessary. I just bought two tickets on EBAY (I believe from a season ticket holder). He emailed the tickets to an e-mail address I don't have access to. He told me once he emails them they are out of his hands, but I can't access them, is there anything that can be done so I get get those tickets? He can call the ticket office, tell them the tickets were lost and he can have them replaced.

QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) Disagree. I'm a huge Farmer fan. No way is he weaker than Singleton, nor Hawk, for that matter. I'll be supremely pissed if they ever get rid of him. Farmer is lucky to have Rooney and now Stone cover his ass these few years. Singelton didnt have the talent to carry Farmer, which is why he is gone.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:47 PM) Any pro Uribe comments I make are strictly about him being a back up or insurance against injury. I feel he has a lot of value in that context. He does, but im glad that we saw that Alexei would flourish given solid playing time. The kid has shown he has a chance to be a GG 2B right away, and should be an impact bat for us for the next several years.

QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) That silly thing that Soto/Blanco do with Cubs pitchers where theycall for face high fastballs on 2 strike counts (and then everyone swings) pisses me off. They were having some fun with our hitters too, by faking their gloves in spots and trying to distract them. Its pretty bush league by Soto, and someone will let him know it eventually. They just need to take an extra LOOOONG swing. And Marmol is a very good reliever, but his control issues are what got him into trouble when he was a starter too. 2006 1.69 WHIP 59k 59BB

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 11:10 PM) and the one that's lost 5 MPH on his fastball has been healthier over the past 3 years than Kerry Wood and he's arguably been better than Wood this season, even if he has 30 fewer strike outs. And Bobby didnt "lose" anything. He can still go back to those old mechanics and throw straight heat with zero movement and not have any break on his slider, change, or cutter.

Farmer is awful as a PBP guy, Stone really helps him bring some better knowledge and objectivity to the broadcast, but Stoney and Hawk would be superior than them IMO. I really wish they would have kept Rooney since Farmer is clearly the weakest radio guy we had.

QUOTE (TLAK @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 05:12 PM) Lets compromise. How about a 75 minute rain delay after the top of the 2nd. Neither starter returns and its the White Sox bullpen against the Indian's bullpen. Then our tired bullpen against the A's in 4 games? No thanks.

Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 29, 2008 -> 05:08 PM) it's a great class, but it ain't close to the best. USC is gonna possibly the best ever and for USC to top USC is amazing. They have like 5 5-stars already. Pete Carroll is ridiculous and although some may argue they are a little sketchy about their recruiting, the NCAA hasn't busted them yet (as a team, Reggie Bush is a bit different) Cant wait to face them on the field. And I am just in awe and how many commits we got this early. The class may be finished in a few weeks, thats ridiculous. -
QUOTE (ChiSox35 @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) Haha a bunch of Cubs fan friends sang Go Cubs Go at me today but then I told them the powerhouse Giants won. There are alot of those fans that think the White Sox wrote, Lets go go whitesox in reaction to Go Cubs Go.

methinks Danks will be one of the players they try to somewhat fast track.

Good thing Wise hit for BA. Thats all I have to say about that.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 09:01 PM) I've got to say, Brian is really pissing me off. He really makes opposing pitchers happy, so thats the important part.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) Don't get me wrong, I wasn't try to say Danks got lucky on that. Great inning by Danks there, and the K gets the crowd into it. CQ looks ready to blast one, so let's get a base runner this inning. Thank you BMAC, thank you.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 06:39 PM) That was pretty s***ty, Brian. Remember spring training Brian Anderson? Where did THAT guy go? Great strike zone recognition, gap power, situational hitter, RBI machine.
-
Pitchers just have an easy time with BA.

I actually like....Morel at 3B...

QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) I feel like its Toby Hall who is always doing it. I get the impression he's the kind of guy in the clubhouse who seemed funny for the first two weeks of the season but slowly everyone gets tired of his repetitive actions, but he has no clue that everyone hates him. Just a guess. Or maybe he should just lose 20 pounds. Swish broke out of his slump when he wore Toby Hall's pants. Its magic.

If you could improve this team, how would you do it?

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) He may prove me wrong at some point, but I believe that if BA gets another shot at being a regular that he'll prove to be a quality major league ballplayer. Spring Training BA has you fooled, like alot of other people. He's just not that good of a hitter to be an everyday player. -

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) Hughes has a hideous contract, shoots at a hideous rate, and takes way more shots than he should in the first place. Gordon, on the other hand, is our best scorer, hands down, and is a phenomenal 3 point shooter. I agree that Hughes is better defensively though. Handles won't mean much for Hughes with Rose on the squad now. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't really like Ben Gordon. Ben Gordon's new contract will not be good. I think he is about as one-dimensional a player as there is. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 30, 2008 -> 08:08 AM) Speaking of the D-backs, am I the only one that's been very underwhelmed by Chris Young's development so far? Still no batting average and no OBP whatsoever to speak of. Is it possible our scouts and KW actually knew what they were talking about?
