QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Time to start rooting for a higher draft choice. *Sigh* that was weeks ago.

Konerko's contract was considered large and is now the price for avg players. Thats what happens when years go by, look into it.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) I think Felix Pie is very comparable to Brian Andersona and I think Rich Hill has topped out, he will not get any better and is no better than Gavin Floyd as a prospect. Hill has had a greater deal of success due to a terrible division and inferior league. When Rich Hill needed to step up to get the ball to Big Z he got hit at home pretty good and failed. Sorry but I think he is overrated by the cub and anyone that thinks he is anything more than mediocore. His ceiling has been reached. Danks and Floyd have accomplished more at their age than Hill and I thereby find any comparison moot. and gavin's 3 years younger. He still has this season and the next two starting in the NL central to equal what Hill has done if they were to be equal. Not too many people understand how old Hill was when he debuted.
-
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:02 AM) I really can't believe you called Hill a poor man's Danks. Bit excessive trying to prove your point. Age is the only thing that makes that statement worth considering. Otherwise, there is not much else that proves it. Hill's stuff can be unhittable at times and I have yet to see a Danks pitch that I couldn't hit. I like what you're getting at but really it's not completely accurate IMO. I doubt you could hit any pitch that Danks throws. But he has a plus curve, just not as spikey as Hill. Also hill doesnt nearly have the change that Danks has. Hill isnt going to turn out to be much better than he is now, he'll be 28 when the season rolls around, 5 years senior to Danks. Danks has a higher ceiling and should be worth more on the open market.

QUOTE(mreye @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) Wow! The day I decide to be "sick." Alpha, I heard once that train engineers have the highest suicide rate of any job. I thought it was air traffic controllers? Or dentists?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) If they can, then the Orioles are even dumber than I imagined. And an offer of Gio straight up should beat that. Probably a decent shot back at the Tigers would be to pull off a blockbuster for Roberts and Bedard. That would be ridiculous.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) A trade like the one we are talking about are the types of deals the Sox need to look at. Kotchman is a good, young player that isn't at the level Konerko is at yet(I obviously think he is closer than others) but should get there. However, a deal could get done based on LAA needing a big bat NOW, instead of two years down the road. The Sox get a young bat that is comparable to Konerko, free up money, and have a younger core to work with. Dream scenario for me (not going to happen) Trade Konerko for Kotchman and hopefully a young arm Trade spects for Roberts Sign Andruw Jones 1. Roberts 2B 2. OCab SS 3. Thome DH 4. Jones CF 5. Dye RF 6. Kotchman 1B 7. Fields 3B 8. AJP C 9 Quentin LF

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Teams would be able to call up lefties from AAA just to beat the White Sox. probably, but thats been happening for a couple of years now.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) My point is Konerko is a better player. BTW, Konerko for not having the "top notch OBP" compared to Kotchman a good OBP guy who lacks power, surprisingly has the higher career OBP. Well he has ONE full season in the majors, thats gonna happen, but he should put up a better OBP over his career than Kong has. And right now, yes Konerko is the better hitter, but Kotchman is a good young 1B, who plays GG defense. He would be a good fit with our team, and Konerko would offer great protection for Vlad. If we could swing Kotchman+another player, it would be an even trade IMO.
-
If you add Roberts, subtract prob Danks+richar plus prob Gio if not more. You would also have to go out and sign someone like Jones. That would improve our offense, but our pitching would still be 4th best in the division prob. Good lineup though 1. Roberts 2B 2. Cabrera SS 3. Thome DH 4. Konerko 1B 5. Dye RF 6. A Jones CF 7. Fields 3B 8. Quentin LF 9. AJP C I'd like to trade Kong for some pitching perhaps, then I would feel better.

QUOTE(bmags @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) come on though, arkansas and kentucky are no where CLOSE to the upset that stanfords was. Stanford was playing their backup QB too! Hilarious. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 09:07 PM) Why if Kotchman is just as good as Konerko and will probably make at least $30 million less than him in the next three years, would they make the trade A. straight up and B. Adding Figgins their leadoff guy for a physical question mark who will certainly be a free agent after next season? If you're saying the deal makes sense to the Angels, you're saying Konerko is a heck of a lot more desireable than Kotchman. They are similar but not the same type of player. Kotch is a good OBP, but hasnt yet shown the power, and Konerko is a power guy who does always have the top notch OBP. The angels would only be interested because they need the middle of the order power production from a proven player.
-
QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) I like Hamilton, but he ain't a leadoff hitter. Well, at least in my book when you have someone who can put a SLG% of .550 or greater they aren't a leadoff hitter but a middle of the order guy. Rickey Henderson put up SLG in the .500's, he was a pretty good lead off hitter.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 08:40 PM) Wow from Torii, to Cabrera to an old man hanging on barely. Just blow the f***ing thing up. he tried to sell himself to them, they arent going after Luis.
-
Yeah and KC was one of the team Sosa talk to about himself, then they said they didnt approach him. Luis is at the meetings trying to sell himself, hes prob talked to every team. No chance for him on the sox
-
In an effort to save database space I would like to mention that there is a below zero percent chance that the angels would include kendrick in a deal for konerko. I understand we all have emotional attachment to the face of this team in paulie, but he's just not worth that much. Kotchman plus one other player would be quite a good deal, but not much more than that.
-
I don't understand why everyone is down on kotchman, at this point konerko for kotchman plus a spect and either willits or figgins is a huge win for us. Kotchman would be a positive organizational move.

Lol at kw telling dye and buehrle exact names about who he was going after this offseason and already knowing contract amounts. Does anyone actually read your posts after you make them?

was it really necessary to open yet another thread like this?

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:35 PM) something about former cocaine and heroin addicts destroying their body doesn't give me high hope for Hamilton's shot at staying healthy long-term, and I'm not talking about relapse here but merely talking about him getting banged up badly from the day-to-day grind. Hes 26 years old. -
QUOTE(greg775 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:36 PM) I don't understand why the Sox can't ever flat out win a trade or make a trade that excites everybody. Getting Willis and Cabrera for a batch of prospects would have excited everybody. But I guess our prospects aren't good enough in the eyes of opposing teams. They don't want our lousy prospects. Or the angels, or the Dodgers.......

Miscellaneous "White Sox" Trade Notes
RockRaines replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:20 PM) Enh Hamilton I'll pass on. For how cheap they got him, it's not worth going after him. They'll want the world and expect it. Now the Konerko idea I loved because it involved trading Paulie but I doubt they have interest. How about Jenks going there though? Can Jenks be dealt for Bruce straight up? Doubtful but that is the first thing I would target from that team. He seems untouchable but how often is a Bobby Jenks caliber player offered for a prospect straight up? The Bailey idea wasn't bad and I saw he was talk in a Bedard deal. Which confused me. Idk why he isn't off limits. They'd be better dealing Bruce for Lincecum and just keeping the old men in the OF and going for it all. Pass on him why? Because he would fill the leadoff hole and the CF hole? He would be a perfect fit. And Fath, Bailey was the youngest player in the league this year, he will improve. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:17 PM) You wouldn't have made that trade....I like Quentin, but it's amazing the expectations people have for him right now. its not just us, several analysts have said he may out produce Torii Hunter

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 11:23 PM) A couple different reports that Dye called up Kenny this afternoon, mad that whatever Kenny promised when Dye signed wasn't getting done. I'm sure he probably guaranteed Hunter. I think it was Cowley and Levine who were near Kenny at the time and reported on it First of all, quote the source and the paper. Secondly, I do not believe it said he was mad.

Wow, im really starting to switch my attention to Josh Hamilton and the Reds. Cf, leadoff, maybe grab a young sp piece? Hamilton .292 .368 .922 OPS 19hr 172b 90g
