The South Bracket (San Antonio)
RockRaines replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Solid Point, both teams have some vets and youths. Guess we will see who wins when the game comes. Should be a good one. The upside of the lack of upsets is that we should see a very high level of basketball played in the next few rounds, which should really make this tourney exciting as hell. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:38 PM) Early in the offseason, yes. It's because accounts of his velocity around the signing was 93-94mph. I rather risk 5 million in one season to someone such as Dotel than 4-5 @ 12+million with another pitcher. With incentives it comes out to 7.5 million. For someone that has averaged 14 games the past two seasons, its absurd. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:34 PM) You really have to understand the Royals position to appreciate the move. Their fans realize the deal was ridiculous; but the way they've conducted personnel decisions (ie, throw young pitchers into the fire) hasn't worked. Look at Greinke and his problems. If nothing else, Meche should give some time for the younger pitchers to develop. Yes but that production could have come for less money, which would have allowed them to move that cash and use it to sign higher draft picks, which is something that has held them back previously. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) And Oden ups the average age of that team anyways, right? Face of a 44 year old. He got the template from Contreras. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Kansas City did spend 55 million on Gill Meche. That may not suggest Baird is suited for the job, but Kansas City needs immediate help with pitching and the only way they'll draw talent is overpaying. About Tampa, their problem is starting pitching. It's Kazmir and then everyone else. Similar with Kansas City, they're deep in positional players and not much else. If Tampa drafts David Price (a legitimate ace) their chances of competing immediately improves. Hopefully, he doesn't fall to the Royals or we're in trouble for a long time. 55 million wasted was not the correct move. And I agree about TB, if they were smart they would be on the phone shopping the hell out of Upton and maybe Young. That should have netted them a young arm by now. -

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) OSU is young Besides all off the defensive arguments in your post, this is what I would like to point out. They really arent as young as people really think. They start 2 freshmen, yes, but also 3 vets, including a 5th year. The game should be close, and the winner will be decided on whose part of the game shines more. Will it be OSU's speed and post play, or Tenn's perimeter game. -

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) Keep in mind the status of Chris Douglas-Roberts for Memphis; he's averaging 15.4 points for them and he suffered that sprained ankle. That doesn't sound like much, but that definitely hindered Reynolds of Virginia against Tennessee. Ya. Those guys at Memphis are such great athletes. I cant remember who it was lat game, but one of their guards just took a crossover, took 2 steps and dunked on 2 guys. Thats the type of team this is, and could prove dangerous to any team they face. That match up is going to be SICK. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 04:05 PM) Up until last year we were saying the same things about Detroit. I have faith in Moore turning things around as the new general manager. Atleast in a shorter span than Baird. Meh, I dont know, detroit could always spend money. KC never will. The key to success is develop, but also spend. TB has probably the most talent in the MLB coming up in their ranks right now, especially in the OF and a few IF'ers like Longoria. But I will never hold my breath at them making the playoffs nor winning a World Series, you just cant compete these days just drafting talent, you need to purchase some pieces. -

Also A&M is a good team, and athletic, but there are few teams as athletic as Memphis. -

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) If Luke Hochever projects, and their selection this year turns into anything of value, the Royals could easily be the 2006 Tigers in three years. They've been selecting high for years with no real success. The royals will be the royals. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:53 PM) I remember Hafner taking Legend deep too. Just as DJ was trying to say that Logan will be fine and he's just got to not put a ball over the plate - ball over the plate, Legend's not fine, ball lands 450 feet away and the score was tied. ugh, he kilt that ball. That one made me sick. -

QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Idk, Tenns guards did a terrific job stopping him, it did leave Reynolds open but he got cold. Hurting their chances. Im going out on a limb saying Tennessee beats Ohio St. I really see this happening Id even wish to have the opportunity to go back in time and change my pick but I cant. Reasoning: Player to watch is Dane Bradshaw, is hes matched up against Mike Conley Jr, Conley is in trouble. Both are guards so this might be a matchup we will see. Bradshaw can shut guys down, he has some great defense, presses the ball handler hard and gets up in his face. He can potentially stop Conley. Tennesse just has too many offensive weapons for Ohio St, granted St has Oden who is just physically a beast down low, they might not even need to play the post vs Ohio St if their perimeter shooting is as good as it was vs Long Beach St and Florida early in the year. Tenn is a quick team might slow Oden down and help them. Should be close but give Tenn the edge, guys your brackets are about to be busted I like the AM Memphpis matchup too, 2 athletic teams, have no favorite but picked AM. I take it you havent watched too much of OSU. Im just basing this on your saying Tenn has too many weapons for OSU and just mentioning the 2 freshman without really giving any mention of Cook, Lewis, Harris, Hunter and Butler. As far as Bradshaw shutting down Conley, he didnt really do much of a job last time they played, as this was the beginning of Conley coming into his own. He has since improved a great deal as well. Tenn really had NO answer for Oden last time, nor could they do much in the paint, basically negating their post play entirely. It took a huge effort by Lofton to keep them in the game and give them a chance to win. Once again he will be the key for Tenn. The one problem is that OSU is also comfortable going small, with that they are much more athletic than most teams and as Xaiver saw, can go to the hoop or hit from the outside. If the buckeyes can control the glass again (39-27) and actually hit their outside shots, I dont see Tenn having much of a chance. I see alot of zone coverage for OSU in this game, unless Tenn gets extremely hot from the outside. It should be a close game once again, but given that OSU has played 18 games since they beat Tenn, and that was only Oden's 6th game back, i expect to see a different team on the court. -
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 02:24 PM) If it wasn't for the bracket contests, the NCAA tourney would be as popular as the NBA finals. I dont know about that at all. This is far more dramatic and is more appealing than the NBA. The NCAA playoffs systems is probably the best in all sports and even other sports like NCAA football have had fans demand to adopt the same system.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 02:12 PM) That sandwich is big enough to feed a family of 4. You know it. I like the "Mad moscow" which is a combo of corned beef and pastrami with half spicy and half yellow mustard. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

The best pitched inning in Sox history/Your thoughts
RockRaines replied to StatManDu's topic in Pale Hose Talk
El Duque by a long shot. The odds of him making it out of that inning without giving up a run was 1 in a million. -
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:36 PM) I odn't understand you Irish peeps. The ONLY way to have corned beef is on rye with spicy mustard surrounded by cops, firemen, politicos and other city employees at Manny's. THAT'S a death row meal! And I can't forget the potato pancake. Perry's has the best corned beef sand in the city. Hands down.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:56 PM) The less people that like something, the better it is. The vast majority of people are morons (the fact that in comparison to the population, I'm smart, proves that for sure) so really low ratings to me are a confirmation of my interests. Nothing I like more than people pointing to the ratings of something. These are the same people who sit there and watch American Idol every night.

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 01:15 PM) I never watch it anymore. Used to take days off to watch-but it has become the most redundant, overhyped, overrated event in sports, next to the NBA playoffs Other than the comparison of Gio to Santana, this might be the most inaccurate post of the year.

im in the opinion that Iguchi is one of the bet #2 hitters in the game. Apparently nobody on the White Sox share that opinion.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 11:49 AM) saturday afternoon was one of the best stretches of games i've seen. easily. Besides my heart stopping during the OSU game, it was non-stop action. That is the reason the touney is so great. Sunday was very blah.

What if its not Anderson, Terrero or Perez
RockRaines replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He needs one more year at AAA to play everyday. In fact that Charlotte team should dominate letting us get a taste of who is ready.
