QUOTE(Fotop @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Do my eyes deceive me, or did OSU fans just storm the court after the game? Granted, I didn't watch much of the game at all...but you're the #1 team. And were favorites. Makes no sense to rush the court. They just won the Big Ten. Im sure they are sorry that they are celebrating that. -

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) Hopefully you are right. And something that I am hopeful about is the fact that we have proven we can play with any team in the East, which is all that really matters until the Finals. :-) I think the Pistons are the only team that are legit enough to be better than us. -
QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 05:45 PM) Haha. I'm somewhat addicted already. Have watched 14 episodes in 2 days, but I wish the plot would move more linear than explore different characers each episode. But with so many characters, I guess they don't really have a choice. I want to know what's inside that door Boone and Locke found. Nobody laugh that I'm so far behind, and nobody tell me. You are in deep trouble my friend. I liken it to Band Of Brothers where you just watch for 14 hours and realize its dark outside.

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 03:15 PM) Exactly. Despite the fact they get a vast majority of the calls they STILL b**** about everyone they don't get. God what a f***ing s***ty loss. Could have started 4-0 after the break with 3 big wins in a row and really be starting a nice roll. They may still be rolling. We had foul trouble for our two starting guards and still had that game in the end. On the road the Pistons dont get alot of those calls. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Damn it, Bulls should have won. Pissed another one away. Its ridiculous to think how many games we've lost this season that we should have won. And that was such a freaking foul on Webber when he got the offensive rebound and tip back for the win. The pistons are another team that even when they get most of the calls, they complain the whole game. Webber had a pretty blatant offensive foul, but they let them play. Gordon still had a nice open look. We can beat this Pistons team at home for sure, on the road its touch and go. -

QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Feb 25, 2007 -> 02:01 PM) Yes, it is worth "crying" over. It was a major part of the tradition at this institution, sorry that you've never been a part of something like this. Wrong. Im not sorry, I really dont think its that great. As far as being part of a tradition at a University, mine was founded in 1809, there were plenty I took part in. As far as the fact that im wrong. Heres a PDF that can show you who is actually wrong in this case. You might want to start posting informed opinions, instead of just typing. http://www.nah.uiuc.edu/faculty/tyeeme/doc..._resolution.pdf Heres another link showing the illiniwek descendants opposing the Chief. http://www.retirethechief.org/Dialogue/haney.html if you can come up with something more recent that says that they supported the Chief, feel free to post it. -

RockRaines replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Seriously, is it worth crying that much after the fact? Great points for someone's opinion that doesnt matter in this case. You are lucky that you at least get to keep your team names at this point and only lost a 5 min halftime show. Comparing the Chief to other things like a celebrity is pointless and a real stretch. The people of the race that the Chief and the University is named after didnt want the Chief anymore in its current state. The University chose to fight instead of make changes or work with the tribe to fulfill their requests. If there is anyone you should be upset with its your school administration, or you can be mad at the Peoria tribe that told them to lose the Chief. As for re-naming the Chief and letting him continue to dance. Yeah maybe it could have worked, maybe there could have been a loophole, but take a look at the long list of schools I posted that had to change their names regardless of any connection to a certain tribe. It has been deemed inappropriate in college athletics to have mascots appearing as Indians in any way shape or form. The only way that they have overlooked it in certain circumstances was due to the support of a tribe. If you dont have that support, you dont have that mascot, so even that path is closed to you. Im sorry that things end, but the times change, and having a Native American Mascot is something of the past these days, and thats how it is. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 24, 2007 -> 02:23 AM) Andres Nocioni on his best day is about as good as Deng on his worst day, maybe. Trading Deng for Gasol would have been monumentally dumb, if Deng is going Garnett better be coming. Also, nice win tonight vs. the Wiz. Deng went off again. The kid never ceases to amaze me at some of the little things he does like offensive rebounding and making the extra pass. -

QUOTE(maggliopipe @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) Is this really that abnormal? It's gross and all, and I'm glad I don't have to see it, but I'm sure most restaurants have intermittent problems with rodents. Then again I'm a Taco Bell apologist. Not only in NYC which is overrun by rats, but if anyone eats up in Lincoln Park or lakeview frequently, the area is the one of the heaviest infestation of rats in the state. There is a huge problem with rats in populated areas in chicago and im sure that includes the basement of restaurants that are much nicer than Taco Bell. In addition, NYC is a rat paradise because they just toss their trash out on the streets in piles.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 23, 2007 -> 08:13 AM) I'm shocked. You seemed to be as big a fan of XM as I am of Sirius. Its satellite radio, I don't think the indoor reception will ever be better than AM/FM. The Sirius Stiletto is cool because you can stream music from the web, via wifi. I've used it and its pretty good. And I get reception in about 50% of my gym, and when I go to the back of the gym, I switch to the recorded content I have. anyway, you are done and I understand. yeah, im a huge fan. I only commute 10 min now so it wasnt worth it, but most likely i will start it back up in the summer on my boat, which is the most useful installation i have had to date.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) Absolutely no doubt in my mind that this statement is accurate. When the best the News networks can do for a source on the matter is a University of Illinois professor with a last name ending in -stein, I think it becomes very easy for those of us criticizing the authenticity of the majority of those aligned with the Anti-Chief camp to be considered validated. I also wonder if said majority would champion an Anti-Seminole cause if the University hasn't reached an "agreement" with the tribe in years past. Duh, less than 1 percent of all students at U of I are native american, its simple numbers game. Of course the only people's opinions that matter in this issue are the Peoria Tribe, which makes the numbers of people on both sides pretty moot. FWIW, i see alot of people trying to attack FSU as their only fram of reference. There are plenty of other schools that have kept their name the same way that FSU has and the opposite of what U of I did. The following teams face the NCAA ban: Alcorn State University, Bradley University, Chowan College (Braves); Central Michigan University (Chippewas); University of Utah (Utes); Carthage College (Redmen); University of Illinois-Champaign (Illini); Mississippi College (Choctaws); University of North Dakota (Fighting Sioux) Southeastern Oklahoma State University (Savages); Catawba College, Midwestern State University, Indiana University-Pennsylvania, Arkansas State University, University of Louisiana-Monroe; McMurry University, Newberry College (Indians); -

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) That is definitely a great tradition. Especially when they have special guests dot the "i." There are great traditions everywhere. I remember talking to people from other colleges at U of I games saying how cool the Chief was. And there was never booing coming from the opponents section, at least not that I ever heard, during halftime. I guess my problem isn't really with the Native Americans or anyone who opposed it, it's with the NCAA...Greg Couch said it best today: Just be consistent. I agree that they should be consistent. But consistency is alot worse than just banning the Chief. How many schools were forced to change their nicknames all together? U of I could easily be the university of Illinois Orange Krush or something like that, I would be grateful that they at least let them keep that name. Out of the 40 schools they originally went after, I believe only 3 or 4 actually still keep their original mascot name, let alone the halftime show.
