  1. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) WHOA! What happened to your XM stuff? I think growth was really going to slow up, and the Stern effect now was going to be the name recognition. I think sales will really slow down now, since people will be confused on what to do because they are merging. I never drive anymore so I gave it up for now. With the merge I may be back on. As soon as the portable units work as well inside as they do outside, my need has really dropped off.
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 03:36 PM) Are you really comparing this to slavery? C'mon.... So, is Florida State or Utah any less racist? Just because they have an agreement with the tribe? Any more honorable? If the NCAA is going to blast one school because it's racist, then all of them should be, no matter what the agreement is. Do you guys agree? Well, the FSU Chief was given to FSU by permission from the tribe, they also have had first hand experience in creating it and okaying all actions that the Chief performs. They also create the outfit of the Chief. illniwek was wearing the outfit of a rival tribe doing a boyscout dance with no permission from the tribe. The native americans see that as dishonoring their name and figurehead. SO I would say yes, the Illniwek is more wrong. Are they all wrong? Yes. Should all school be forces to change their mascots and names if they are native american based? yes. But in this case, no other teams matter, because the decendants of the "Chiefs" namesake dont want it, so you cant have it. Outside of people who go to illinois, does anyone else think the Chief's "dance" is cool? Im just wondering about the basis of claiming its one of the "coolest things in collegiate athletics." (not trying to stir you Illini up, just want outside opinions) I liken it to script Ohio that the buckeyes do before games, and im pretty sure not many people outside of OSU fans think thats really cool.
  3. QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) I I've been waiting for you. Sirius certainly could have overtaken XM...they had the momentum. Who knows, its probably not going to get played out. Who really cares. I want some money, merger is fine with me. I don't have a problem with any name. As long as this new service doesn't have commercials on the music channels, I will be fine with it. The customer base wasnt there, the interest for Sirius as a unique vendor had died down as most of Stern audience were already converted. I suspected growth for both companies with a level off inthe next year. With that said, i have made alot of money on the stock and Im pretty pumped about the merge. I listen mostly for sports and somewhat for music and its going to be cool to be able to listen to everything. I hope they can get approval and get this done in good time because as of right now, im not a subscriber to either.
  4. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) losts biggest secrets revealed!!! oh, we didn't mean to you!! haha, sorry we meant to the survivors. We'll clarify that next week. If you arent used to the commercials by now, dont watch tv. They revealed that the survivors that were captured were not killed, but made to "watch." They revealed that only work is done on the small island, and they usually dont even like coming there they revealed that Ethan was their old surgeon they revealed that there was someone other than Ben in charge of certain things they revealed what Jack's tat means and where it came from they revealed many of those people grew up there and didnt come from or have never seen the "real world." i cant even think of what else. I thought it was an awesome episode with a great lead in to the next one
  5. Tony, as a fellow owner of Sirius stock, I wish everything you said is true. However even with Stern bringing his audience with him, they were never going to catch or take over XM as the leader in Sat radio. As much as I would have liked it to happen it just isnt in the cards. Both companies realized that the market is leveling off and there is only so much to be gained from competing. When they adapt the XM name, will you still claim to listen to Sirius?
  6. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) Oh well, all I can say to the people who claim to be offended by Chief, get off your soap box. To those that are here and understand, don't let anyone forget that we at the University of Illinois, were robbed of one of the coolest things in collegiate athletics. Yeah, FU people who think this is racist against your heritage!!! You are taking away something that isnt nearly as old or sacred as your ancestors!!! Coolest thing in collegiate athletics? Meh, is it even the coolest thing in the big ten?
  7. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:51 PM) I like his speaking up-with Buehrle likely gone, Freddy Gone, and a Quiet Garland, maybe he will become a leader Apparently Garland is more of a leader than people suspect.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Seems like with Vaz it's very love or hate. I liked what Javy brought to the table last season, and excited to see how he does in his 2nd year with us. Once he moved over to the side of the mound, he improved a ton. I look forward to a whole season of him leading with that cutting fastball. FWIW, Masset apparently has the same cutting action on his fastball as well.
  9. QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) we already knew they had back yards and where they lived, that was revealed in the first episode of the third season when they had a book club. like I posted above, the survivors didnt know that.
  10. QUOTE(juddling @ Feb 22, 2007 -> 10:26 AM) but after the season premiere we already KNEW they have backyards, their own little suburb in the jungle. That's nothing new. i think alot of people are upset because they have been listening all week to the promos saying they are going to answer three big questions and the only one they really answered was about Jack's tattoos and honestly.....that wasn't a really big question. Yes, but THEY didnt know, and now they do. We also know that they dont live on the island and are only there for work. We also now know that the people they steal are not killed, which is a huge answer to some questions.
  11. How was this a bad episode? They reveled not only where the others lived to the survivers, but revealed that they have yards, and a whole community. Then it was reveled that some of the captives are still alive and there to watch. I thought this was one of the best episodes yet, they are starting to reveal things to us and the survivors.
  12. QUOTE(Reddy @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 10:11 PM) again this begs the question about bobby and his hat... right? Well it didnt say anything about getting rid of rosin bags, which would be ridiculous, so im guessing that you can still put rosin on your hands and not on the ball. Bobby puts it on his hands then hit hat, not sure how that fits the rules.
  13. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 04:41 PM) Madison you have to be 21 to enter a bar at night, unless you are accompanied by your legal gaurdian. I dont really know of any college campus where you dont have to be 21 to get into a bar. I always thought that was only an Illinois thing, because they use it as one of their recruiting tools. (Not talking about athletes, talking about when they are trying to get students.) In Oxford we had a majority of bars that you had to only be 18 to enter, 21 to drink. They gave you a ridiculous X on your hand if you were underage, but if you applied chapstick pre-bar you could wipe it off. Also in Oxford you can legally drink under 21 if your parents are within an arms reach.
  14. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 06:26 PM) I understand that the Seminole or Ute tribe isn't against it, but if one is wrong, why aren't they all wrong? Would you say that those are both caricatures, too? Nope they arent the same. Watch the video, that is supposedly a representative of the illni tribe. it bears the same name and under no circumstances is anything about it remotely from the actual tribe or descendants. FSU asked the Seminole tribe BEFORE it even created their Chief if it was ok, and made them an active participant. They also had input to what the Chief was allowed to do on the field (which is why he isnt doing some boy scout dance). They are all for it, the Peoria tribe is not. There were over 40 schools that were told their mascot or team names were wrong. Most of them have abandoned it all together and some were able to keep it due to the support of the local tribe. Some schools were still forced to abandon their mascot even with the support of the tribe (like my alma mater). The difference here is not the imagery behind their school mascot, its the fake religious dance that it performs at halftime wearing a rival tribe's gear preforming a dance derived from the boy scouts. Im sure if U of I allowed the Peoria tribe some input or compromised with them, that maybe it could have been saved in some sense, but the legal battle was lost before it began, which is why tonight he dances his last dance.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 03:47 PM) Not if it takes 50 tries and we've seen everything he can do last year. A little guy can only do so much. Hence the reason Green won it. 44 in verticals go a long way
  16. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 06:06 PM) In other news, Illinois is actually playing a basketball game tonight vs Michigan at 8:00. And thanks to ESPNU, I will have to venture to a bar or restaurant to watch it. Thats the stupidest thing ever, ESPNU sucks
  17. QUOTE(T R U @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 03:11 PM) Lets keep in mind here Howard wanted to dunk on a 12' goal which he WOULD have been able to do if they gave him the chance.. It should be about the dunks, not how tall you are Too bad its a 10 foot basket in the NBA. And its more impressive, and visually pleasing to see a shorter guy get some air under hit feet to dunk the ball, than a guy reaching up and putting it down.
  18. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) Well my guess on the update with Wisconsin losing is that Wisconsin would be #2 midwest, OSU #1 (if that is allowed). OSU gets a #2 in the east for the reason that Lexington is actually closer to Columbus than Chicago. But Wisconsin is the closest school to Chicago that will be in the tournament and has a shot at a 2 seed. (Doubtful Marquette gets up there and Milwaukee is slightly closer to Chicago.) Side bet on the game sunday?
  19. This is what they are removing for good reason. If you can give me something comparable other than naming professional sports, then you have an argument.
  20. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 02:42 PM) Probably not at all. But the same people b****ing about the Chief would. The majority of those "offended" by the Chief are white people. Again, the white race, is still around, the Illini Tribe is no longer, so who's offended by this? Go after the Redskins, the Cleveland Indians, the Spokane Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves, Warriors, Squaws, etc. For those of you who seem to be hardheaded on this issue, here are a few facts that I'd like to get opinions on... In the past two years, the only scientific opinion polls on the subject have concluded that the majority of Native Americans are not opposed to the use of Indian nicknames—at the high school or college level, or in professional sports. In 2002, a Peter Harris Research Group poll showed that 81% of Native Americans support the use of Indian nicknames in high school and college sports, and 83% of Native Americans support the use of Indian mascots and symbols in professional sports. The accompanying commentary concluded that the “poll suggests that although Native American activists are virtually united in opposition to the use of Indian nicknames and mascots, the Native American population sees the issue far differently.” In September 2004, the University of Pennsylvania’s National Annenberg Election Survey reported the results of a year-long poll which showed that the vast majority of American Indians say that calling Washington’s professional football team the “Redskins” does not bother them (90% of Indians took that position, while 9% said they found the name “offensive”) Following a 20-month investigation, the decision of the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights (11/30/95) concluded that there was insufficient evidence to show that a racially hostile environment existed at the University. Flame on boys. Are you just making stuff up? These people are NOT white people, they are the only descendants of the Illini tribe, which are the most important opinion in the matter. This issue has NOTHING to do with the nickname, nothing at all. The professional sports listed by you have no bearing on this issue at all. The issue is the mascot and his dance, that is it.
  21. Well if you can still place rosin on your hands, then it will go on the ball.
  22. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 01:58 PM) I don't see this happening exactly as you see it. Will the bitterness die down? Sure. But for the thousands upon thousands of graduates who had fond memories of the Chief, they will continue to remember, and it will still be talked about. I don't see another 'mascot' or anything else completely taking its place. The memories won't go anywhere, and people will hold onto their Chief apparel forever. Im just telling you from first hand experience. Will a freshman 3 years from now even know that there was a chief that danced at halftime or whenever? How about 10 years? It will fade away, you will see.
