  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Well, we could have possibly got one from Tampa for McCarthy and another prospect, but we decided against it. Can you support that please, I never saw an offer from TB for that. Im not even hugely in favor of this trade, but blaming Ozzie of all people for trading BMAC is asinine. Overall Danks and Masset are worth more than BMAC in theory, it may not fit in our plans for this year, but KW obviously saw an offer he couldnt refuse. He just aquired a 22 year old LHP who projects as a #1 or #2 starter and another flame throwing bullpen arm. I dont like the trade for now, but its not like he was raped or anything.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Acquiring a stud left fielder. As I said around the trade deadline, if you can't upgrade your pitching, then you better upgrade your offense. Give KW a call and tell him you would like the job to shop for a "stud" LF'er, they cant be too hard to find...
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Even when McCarthy was pitching great in 2005, Ozzie still found every excuse to keep Duque in the rotation. Then, whenever one of our starters sucked last year, he'd say things like the infamous "he's not Cy Young". Do you really think that Ozzie doesn't have a say in our transactions? There's been a few times in the past few years where KW mentioned that his coaches told them to go get such and such player. So, besides the fact that BMAC started for us at the end of 2005, Ozzie didnt want to start him. And when we had no openings in the rotation this year, Ozzie didnt like him. And when Texas came knocking on our door offering two nice prospects for BMAC, Ozzie decided to pull the trigger? You couldnt possibly be that retarded could you? I hope its an act.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) That would make this trade even worse. What would make it better then?
  5. QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Anything less then signing Zito will be a disapointment at this point... We arent getting Zito. We are cutting payroll, not adding that much.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Let's see....Ozzie LOVES Vazquez, and hates McCarthy. Ozzie never felt comfortable starting McCarthy, as he found every excuse possible to not start him. Are you even trying to make sense? When did he find every excuse? When did he say he LOVES Vaz and doesnt feel comfortable with BMAC? Kw made the trade, stop blaming Ozzie for everything you dont like.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) This makes the Vazquez trade even more disasterous, as now we have to trade McCarthy before we could even tell how he'd be as a normal starting pitcher. Why couldn't Ozzie have just retired after winning the WS like he said he would? Yeah, Ozzie pulled the trigger on this deal......get real.
  8. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:28 PM) are people confident in Brandon for reasons beyond that stretch of games in 2005? i dont know what else people get so excited about. a lot of people seem to totally ignore 06, in that he was out of his element. but when Brandon would talk about how he missed being able to set people up early in the game...how that was a big part of what he does... doesnt it just reinforce the suspicion we've all had that his stuff isnt that high end? if the guys we got have that kind of stuff, i'm definitely willing to part with a 3.90 ERA 2007 starter. His stuff isnt high end, and even some Rangers fans are saying he throws "gas" which isnt true. His delivery also leaves a little to be desired with his elbow strain. With that said, he is a 23 year old who shouldnt have been dealt. The deal would almost have been better dealing Garland who is a more expensive and same quality pitcher. really this deal shouldnt have been done at all. I think KW sees that aquiring young arms is going to give him all the leverage in the future for trades etc, but right now, I want to win.
  9. Well, now we not only need a LF, but also a good #5.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) So we won't trade McCarthy for Crawford or Rocco, but we'll trade him for two pitching prospects from a terrible organization at developing pitchers? What in the world is KW planning to do with our rotation in 2008? If we were looking to trade BMAC, why the hell didnt we get Crawford or someone of the sort for him instead of more pitching spects. Danks is good and Masset could be in our pen this year, but seriously this is almost a step back. I would have rather traded someone more expensive at least.
  11. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Dec 23, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) I can't believe the boards aren't lit up yet. I know we just got the news 10 minutes ago, but usually something like this gets around in 5. Just saw it, I must say, I dont understnad this move at all. BMAC was ready to be a mainstay in our rotation for years. There must be something we dont know about BMAC, because this trade kinda blows.
  12. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) im pretty sure that some of those guys will turn out to be decent big leaguers, atleast tracey and rogowski seem to be promising, but tracey and ozzie had those fudes and we have PK and Thome ahead of Rogo, so he might not have a future with the team (i dont know how many years he has left in the minors) so i wouldnt mind seeing them traded for some prospects at positions that will be open later on, for example second base, the pirates seem to be shopping this kid around who seems to have a good future but is stuck behind freddie gonzalez, instead of dumping these guys i wouldnt mind trading a couple for guys that could actually help fill holes for us later on Rogowski=Gload IMO.
  13. The guy hits for crap as a supposed "power hitter" and plays horrible defense. I guess they are just going to concede that their OF will be garbage.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) It's a Bears town but baseball certainly isn't too far behind imo. Several years ago the Bulls were extremely popular, and I think they are bringing back that to second place.
  15. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Dec 20, 2006 -> 01:44 AM) you should have killed mizzou, thanks Rock. Its hard to see a program start the series of some down years.
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) LOL. C'mon, guys. Jimbo's not that bad. Illinois fans taking out their frustration.
  17. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 02:59 PM) You spend one third of your life in bed .... sleeping. Then there are us lucky ones. I cant even find the words to describe how important selecting a bed is. I literally didnt care until I bought this bed when I bought my new place. And seriously, it is the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on. The mattress stores like to discount old models that are going out of rotation, and they SERIOUSLY discount their products. I seriously got a 5k mattress for like 1500 bucks. Best deal I have ever received on anything.
  18. QUOTE(Brian @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 07:07 PM) Tony Romo in the pro bowl means it was a weak year for QBs in NFC. 16 TDs to 10 INT is not good and hasn't even played enough games IMO. I think not only a down year, but the media frenzy around him helped a ton.
  19. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 06:04 PM) During interviews today, freshman center Greg Oden was asked about how long he intended to stay at Ohio State. Oden answered "There's a very big chance I will be here four years." When asked if he really intended to be here four years he replied "Of course. I've got to finish college. That's what my Mom told me." * I have said I thought that he would stay 2 years, just to improve his game etc, but i still think he will leave. The guy is flat out on a different level than anyone else on the court.
  20. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) I sleep on a Serta, and it is pretty spectacular. Mee too, got it half off at the store as they ALWAYS discount mattresses, its a given. My bed is better than any other bed I have ever slept in, including many top resorts and hotels in the US. Go for the quality, because it is one of the few things you will use everyday of your life.
  21. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Dec 18, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) The best part will be when Soriano tears his ACL scaling the Ivy at Wrigley, and Marquis and Lilly post 4.5+ ERAs. Then, their massive spending will lead to another sub-.500 season and the fans will be right back where they were before. It has to be almost a given that Lilly's ERA goes down a little. AL east to NL central itself should help him out a bunch. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) I keep him in Charlotte for 1 more year, hopefully giving him time to grow up and maybe develop more of a power stroke. If someone were to go down with a serious injury in the OF at midseason, I would consider him my first backup option. I would pencil him into my outfield starting in 2008. Agree 100%. I watched him come up and look better than a prospect has for awhile to me, and i think we need to take great care in his development.
  22. QUOTE(iamshack @ Dec 19, 2006 -> 01:57 PM) I understand where you are coming from Rock, but I don't think it is even a question when you consider one guy is making 6 figures while another is making 8. Im all about saving money with young players and all, especially pitching, but I view that as a complete throw out when you are talking about one of the best players at the position. just my POV.
