Official 2006-2007 NBA Discussion Thread

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) Arenas also is much more important to his team than Nash is to his. And stats do factor in the decision they just arent the end all of it. It says alot when Barbossa takes the last second shot for the suns, and Arenas does for the Wiz. -
QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) Yep, looks like garbage to me too. I thought that he was gonna be a damn good starter back in 2003, though. Everyone did, until he tanked. They apparently are bringing him in to compete for the closer's role. Closer by committee worked out so great for them last time.

Official: Randy Johnson traded to Diamondbacks

QUOTE(beautox @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 03:22 PM) Viscaino (RP), Ohlendorf (SP), Steven Jackson (SP), Alberto Gonzalez (SS) link Yanks did not pay anything Your post was somewhat misleading. It is Viz and ONE prospect, not all of them. Also AZ gets a 72 hour window to negotiate an extension. Also they ARE sending money. The D-backs will send veteran reliever Luis Vizcaino and a pitching prospect in exchange for Johnson. It's believed that the Yankees will include some money in the deal to help Arizona defray the cost of Johnson's $16 million salary for 2007. The pitching prospect will likely come from a group of Ross Ohlendorf, Micah Owings or Dustin Nippert. It's unknown whether the D-backs will include another lower-level Minor Leaguer in the deal. -

The White Sox are listed as possible suitors for the comeback of Jim "huge cup" Parque.

QUOTE(Jimbo @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 09:24 AM) Ill let Mel Kiper and his greasy hair figure it out. I want someone to tell me, because obviously I just dont see it. I dont even see him being as good as Eli Manning, which is scary for a team with a top pick. -
QUOTE(beautox @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 09:41 AM) Epstein is "teh sux" and outside of picking up David Ortiz and being in the room when Sanchez and Hanley were given away, what has he done? Ugh, I feel that you have opened up the door for a horrible, yet frequent, argument.

QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:31 PM) So the past successes tell you that whoever they acquire now will be turned into something good. What do the failures tell you? What does Boone Logan tell you? It tells me that you can't always count on every KW bullpen acquisition to be good. I'm not exactly going out on a limb here. Wow, i didnt know that we aquired Boone Logan from another team and tried to fix his mechanics which turned out to be a failure. Wait, he was a guy in A ball who changed his mechanics in OUR system, and turned out to get a shot at the major league team out of nowhere. I guess he is a failure.

BTW fox announced that the OC is cancelled.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 03:41 AM) Yea, hindsight is 20/20. At the time of the signing, when I made the comment, it was a damn good signing. At the time of the Pineiro signing, it looks like garbage, so I think foresight is also 20/20

QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) No I agree, Weis has turned him into a monster. Should have worded that better. By saying ND is polarizing I mean that he's under such a microscope and so much exposure. I mean take the gold helmets and the blue jerseys away and then take a look. As much as people argue that the "ND Hype Machine" is good for you, it's just as bad. Obviously there are very few here that believe this as such, but I might as well state it. Just give this a read, http://bluegraysky.blogspot.com/2006_12_01...576835367811511 Puts what I'm speaking of in a much more eloquent manner. Sidenote: LSU fans chanting overrated. That's downright moronic. I still dont understand why someone cant explain to me how this kid is considered a #1 draft pick, from what i have seen, he cant play against tough competition, he doesnt have the big game skills, and he didnt even appear to be the best player on his team last night. Is there anyone that would take Quinn with the first pick if you were an NFL gm or head coach? -

Also I think after these constant blowouts that we should maybe start thinking that ND doesnt really belong in these games, and obviously has been overrated in terms of the BCS. -

QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:55 PM) Of his two long balls, only the last was hit in stride. The first big play of the game was an awful throw, and if the 2nd was hit in stride it should have been a TD. Maybe I define "stride" a bit differently, but I'm not impressed by the touch on his throws. But that may simply be me nitpicking. I really do think he's a great QB, and he certainly has the measurables. I just think Quinn is getting the raw deal in this whole "Who should be taken first?" discussion. And it certainly has a lot to do with him being the non-sexy, "safe" pick; therefore, not an interesting media take. Size, Arm, Brain, and most importantly Toughness makes Quinn the complete package...too bad he plays for a team as polarized as ND is. I think after you posted he threw another awesome deep ball, the guy is the real deal. If you are talking about the throw that was down to the 5 yard line, the WR was in bracket coverage and the only place he could fit the ball was in between the DB's which he did, perfectly. I dont think you were watching the same play. I dont even come close to seeing how you can call Quinn the top pick, I havent seen anything good from him other than his physical size. He has played against 3 good teams, and hasnt really performed the way a #1 or even a #2 pick should. Less than 200 yards? A couple of picks? I dont even see what he has other than size to be called an elite QB or even one that could succeed at the next level. You want to see the performance of a top pick? Look at the guys who take over games and lead their team to the promise land. Leinart, Young, Palmer, these are guys that clearly had what it takes. I dont see any of that in the overhyped Quinn. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) It's a shame it's not LSU or USC playing the Buckeyes. By what I've seen this year, tOSU is the best, then LSU and USC in any order, than everybody else. I really don't know how you can say all that. If Weis never shows up in South Bend, Quinn isn't even a 1st round pick. It appears that Michigan could be somewhat in the same discussion due to their dismantling of the Irish as well, but I think you are right about both points. -
QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) The fact that we did well with the Jenks reclamation project doesn't necessarily mean that any and every pitcher with good stuff that we acquire can be turned into a good reliever. Jenks and Massets situations are very, very different. Cough Thorton Cough

QUOTE(SnB @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 09:13 PM) they showed signs of having a very solid team early this year. Getting through the injuries and showing alot of depth. Then they lost all of that. Randle refuses to step up, mcbride is useless, jamar is his usual hot/cold self. Pruitt and Carter have been the only consistent ones this year and that just ain't gonna cut it. I just figured it was well known that there has to be a rebuilding period, where he starts to coach his own guys. -

QUOTE(Fotop @ Jan 3, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Real easy to put touch on a ball when the receiver is wide the f*** open. Atrocious coverage. Not saying Russell is terrible, but any major college QB could have made the deep throws he's made tonight. He's still a freak of nature with a strong arm, though. Walker: 128 yds rushing in the first half... if you told me this would be his line at halftime but ND would be losing, i'd call you crazy. ND looks good, and two things need to happen to win: 1) Defense needs to stop the big play. Tough task, but they need to put a solid half together. 2) Brady needs to settle down and make good decisions. Throw it away when necessary, don't force it, and settle into a rhythm. These things happen, ND can go home a winner. I dont know man, hitting a receiver in stride is something that he has shown the ability to do, while his competition on the other side of the ball is throwing near picks in those situations. ND should be running the ball every snap, but im sure Charlie will try and throw it. -

JaMarcus looks like a star to me, the touch on that deep pass was amazing.
