  1. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) Given that Bennett was suspended indefinitely, it makes me think there is something more going on other than this one fight. Emery actually said "An undetermined length of time." But the media is saying indefinite. Undetermined could mean he could write him a sorry note today and be back tomorrow. Indefinite means the same but for some reason people seem to think its a longer period of time. It means they dont know yet or it wasnt stated.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) I'm not so sure about him not doing it in a game. Trestman obviously, saw enough in it or in repeated behavior to punish Bennett. I don't think Trestman does things on a knee jerk reaction basis. i think the the fights and the intensity is a good thing on a limited basis. The coaches which encourage it too much are the more undisciplined teams. With the way the NFL is calling penalties now, that type of play really doesn't work. Show me where he has done something like this in a game? http://www.pro-football-reference.com/play...Ma00/penalties/
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:36 AM) I would disagree. There is a correlation between how a coach runs a team and how the team plays. If the coach just lets things happen and doesn't keep his team disciplined, I think that type of play carries over. It's not just the fights though. It's how disciplined they are during the entire practice. I think Trestman finally had enough of the non-football crap and sent a message. Fuller made a play that would have been a penalty. However, if the same situation happened in a game the offense would not get the benefit of the penalty because Bennett gets one as well for the level of retaliation. I dont think he retaliates in a game situation, since its an actual game and not practice. A vet knows the difference, a rookie may not. Trestman is definitely one of the more professional type coaches that doesnt like the extra s***, there are some coaches in the NFL that would encourage it.
  4. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I think being undisciplined in camp leads to issues in the game. It is why you practice. You lose tempers in practice why wouldn't you in the game and when you do, you get flagged 15 yards for a personal foul. Thankfully Trestman has sent a hard message so clearly he was pretty fed up with this too (in fact he was pissed about it two fights ago and made a huge deal about it). I think there is zero correlation between camp fights and penalties in the regular season. Zero. Bennett overreacted by slamming Fuller which was stupid, but thats about all I saw. Fuller would have been flagged on the play first.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:09 AM) Yet Bennett is the one suspended. Why, because he's already had a few of these incidents. You practice undisciplined and you play undisciplined. Look how that worked for the Lions. Teams that are undisciplined are penalized and tend to lose a lot of games. So you think training camp fights correlate to penalties in the regular season? That would mean the Lions have more training camp incidents that anyone in the league right? Or they just have 2 extremely dirty players.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) Michael C. Wright ‏@mikecwright 16s Phil Emery says Martellus Bennett us absent today because he's been fined and suspended undetermined time. I wish they officially called it a "body slam fine"
  7. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 09:50 AM) Look. Bennett has taken down a few guys and there have been quite a few more incidents. I follow training camp and have for a long time and also follow all the other camps. I know 1 or 2 incidents tend to happen but there have been more then that with the Bears. Why do you think Tresty cut practice short by almost half an hour. He was sending a message saying cut it out. I did "look" at the video and it was nothing out of the ordinary, if anything Fuller made a dangerous play and needed to be sent a message.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 01:13 PM) Stupid. Don't call those guys up until after the super2 deadline next year. There is zero reason to waste service time. Must. Sell. Tickets.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 02:57 PM) We seem to have some problems in camp. Morning practice was cut short 25 minutes because Bennett decided to body slam Fuller. There have been a lot more fights reported in this years camp then I can pretty much ever remember and while I'm all for a little chippiness, this is just sloppy and undisciplined and needs to stop. It needed to stop 3 fights ago and most definitely need to stop now. Reports are that Fuller just tried to strip the ball and Bennett went crazy on him. These incidents are increasing in severity too, which is bad, because the culture is that it is okay because others have done it and it is a slippery slope. Next thing you know, we turn into the flipping Lions. Tresty certainly isn't condoning it but the leaders of this lockeroom and coaching staff need to end this stuff NOW! Easy mom, there is a video of the incident if you want to watch it. You can even see them make up and Cutler come over to speak with Fuller.
  10. Yes, he predicted injuries to his last two guys in the game.
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) I have a feeling that golf is going to become an actual country club sport like polo where there just aren't many people playing it and it becomes more clearly a sport for rich people. I wonder if any high schools are cutting it - I know mine always made the kids pay all the expenses so they'd never cut it so long as there is a course nearby I dont think golf is dying, in fact courses and country clubs are seeing a bit of a resurgence in younger golfers. However the equipment manufacturers are the ones trying to cry poor and are putting this info out. They make new 400 dollar drivers every year, THATS what is too expensive.
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 06:18 PM) Played today, shot 110. Not terrible for me. Yes, I realize 110 to some of you is awful, but I've only recently picked up golf in the past couple of years and haven't played a ton. Some bogeys, decent amount of double bogeys. Missed a bunch of close par putts, but then some holes where the wheels fall off and put up an 8 or 9, some OB balls etc. Driver was brutal today. Highlight of the day was making 2 putts off the rough and in, each from about 15-20 feet away. Learned that I need a 2/3 hybrid. I don't have a ton of distance off the tee (when I can actually find a fairway, but slice isn't as bad as it was), which is fine, but I need something for a shot or two up the fairway besides my 3 iron or 4 hybrid. Also Rock the more I read about your lob wedges, the more I think I'll need one of those for shorter shots that need some loft, not just using a pitching wedge. I also need to do what you talked about which is practice some bump and runs etc. I have a bunch. I am long off the tee usually around 300 with really terrible long irons so I score by wedge play both in the fairway and just around the green. You know, we should have a Soxtalk open for charity one of these years.
  13. Listen. May of us think this team could have a better record if not for injuries. To me this team is performing nicely and I think our rebuild is ending earlier than expected. That makes me happy
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:47 PM) I thought some team would go for Danks and it would be a team you didn't expect. It didn't bother me at all nothing happened. Salary dumps are boring. You may get a lousy minor league player out of it, like the Sox aren't short on those. GMS see the same thing we do. We hope they see some mysterious upside if player we want gone. It rarely happens. There was only one real team in on Danks and it didnt work out. Dunn will help someone in their playoff push, just need to hope for an injury somewhere. Gordon had a bit of interest for some teams like SF but really his value isnt all that great right now and personally I think he is more valuable to the white sox right now. I am hoping he puts in a second half push for value.
  15. So this might not been as close as we would have hoped, and I am told the money and players changing hands pretty much put them at an impasse.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) Could get Marcus some valuable major league at bats. I wasn't in a rush to just dump Dunn and especially not Danks but I would have liked to see Gordon moved. Yeah but I dont see that hurting the big league club at all. We are rebuilding and dont HAVE to move these guys quite yet even though WE would like to see them moved.
  17. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 05:11 PM) He could dump Beckham's sorry ass at least. What a joke this deadline was. DFA the sorry sonf of a b**** What's he doing to hurt the team over his replacement? They literally dont have to make a single move right now.
  18. We are rebuilding, have a string of injuries and are in the WC hunt. We also signed the ROTY and a possible MVP candidate. Hahn sucks.
  19. The Tigers spend spend and spend with zero rings to show for it.
  20. QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) HEY GUYS THE SOX WON THE SERIES Last night it sounded like we were about to be swept on here.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 03:11 PM) Well, I don't know what all the busy was where you were, but it didn't seem to produce anything. I bet that means that they werent trying to do anything. Results=effort right?
  22. Wow, Det is really going for it but their defense once again suffers.
  23. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 11:31 AM) Rock - anything new? looks like he will be making the start barring a last minute call. you thought he'd certainly be scratched about an hour ago. thanks for all you bring to the board man. really appreciate it! Not getting any responses so I assume it's busy. But no info.
  24. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:40 AM) Any updates Rock? Nada. Holding my phone in case. Just saw Dodgers say they aren't unloading Kemp. Yeah right.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 31, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Thats probably the best way to do it, announce the scratch near game time to up the pressure on the teams involved so they feel a deal is imminent to get each teams BAFO. There are several teams involved in hunting for pitching. Let them start to fight it out.
