QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 05:42 PM) Why do you guys rent your modems, you can get the same ones if not better ones online and pay like a years worth of those rental fees for them. Surprisingly they MADE me switch to theirs a few years ago.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) I still don't know how people are paying Comcast that much, not to mention the fact that they're actually paying it. I pay 149$ a month, after tax for the following: Premier Package, HBO, Stars, Max, etc (all the movie channels) 2 HD DVR's (one in basement one upstairs, and these are the new tiny xfinity ones) 1 additional TV w/no DVR 1 Modem (50mbit down, 10mbit up, actual speeds) Home Phone Service I looked into Dish + Internet from Comcast and simply couldn't beat this price. Here is my bill: Digital Premier-126.95 HD/DVR service-8.00 Additional Outlet service 17.95 HD technology fee-9.95 Movie rental (coffee town)-7.99 Internet Modem Rental-7.00 High speed internet 51.95 Performance Internet svc-0 Taxes, fees-16.64 total-246.43

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) No FXX HD on Comcast yet Yes there is, its under FSOC I believe. 341 or something close.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) I have DirecTV so I don't deal with alternate channels for SD and HD. That's so old school. :-D Wait, they are the same channel on dish? Motherf***er.
-
I went to the "find my channel" site and it gave me the SD channel. Then you have to find the HD version.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 01:42 PM) I have the DirecTV premier package, and then each year I buy the Extra Innings and Sunday Ticket packages. I have 4 tvs. It comes out to $180 per month on average, which is a crapload considering I don't get internet from them or anything, but considering how much I follow my out of town sports teams, and how I like the flexibility of being able to DVR basically any show I want, I think it's probably worth it. I stay in more often than not these days, and so I chalk it up as an entertainment expense. Eventually I will probably switch more to an internet based system where I get a basic programming package from DirecTV and then just pay to watch the shows I want on Apple tv or something, but not quite ready to dive into that yet. Thats still pretty damn good with that many TV's. My first year rate is 80/month for 5, such a no brainer. Calling Comcast today, its going to be fun.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 01:15 PM) I think Rock may be right...I noticed it a lot more on my fiancee's tv than my own...and she has a cheaper 42 inch that is probably 120 hz. It's the auto upscale, I f***ing hate it too. You can turn it off. My new family room is bright as s*** so a plasma wont work, however I'll be watching the good s*** in the basement on the much larger plasma. Steve's article is gold, but the comments are better. Comcast has a "new" guide? Bulls***. Comcast has been raping me for years, why is it that I pay 250 per month? 2 f***ing TV's plus internet.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 12:41 PM) still love it http://flapship.com/directv-genie-review/ I really need to find someone to do something with Flapship. ANYONE with basic design skills to post these articles. I've got way too much work to do, but this site gets effortless hits, still, based on super old content. We're talking 4,000 hits per month with nothing new. The new content was what always made it go bananas since it's an approved Google News source. Oh, side projects. I ordered it for the day after I close on my house. I cannot believe how cheap it turned out to be with zero money up front. I already have a dish on the house and I am not sure which company it is for so i assume they can just use the existing wiring and replace the dish.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) That doesn't prevent the earth from drying up unless you do it outside and very often. You caught me.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) The Soap Opera Effect I believe without reading your article that its actually 120 hz tv's with software smoothing which "acts" like 240

Just ordered directv and schedule my appt. Seems so cheap, I hope the fees dont increase at the rate that Comcast did. I get 5 TV's on DVR at no cost upfront.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 10:57 AM) How much is the cap supposed to go up in the next few years? The more I learn about the NHL, the less it makes sense to me to sign a goalie to a long term contract with a high dollar amount. Goalies are so hit or miss year to year, I HATE long term contracts for them. We just won two cups with two different netminders.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) I've got the Genie and am very pleased with it. As for your question about tv's, I've always gone with Panasonic for plasma and I bought a 70-inch Sharp Aquos LED for my main room. Have been very pleased with it generally, although even at 240 Hz, I notice a bit of trailing when I am watching certain sports, with golf being the worst offender. Thanks Shack, I have been leaning Panny plasma as well with maybe a Samsung LED. Good to hear on the genie. Any issues with multiple rooms etc? Whole-home DVR for some reason seems like it SHOULD have issues.
-
Heres another: I believe Steve had reviewed the Directv genie. It looks like I will be going that route, anyone else use that service? Any restrictions or annoyances?
-
Since I am moving, I'm ready to procure 2 new TV's. Currently looking for a plasma for my basement (better picture in darker room) and probably an LED for my new family room (brighter room, wall mounted). Anyone just go through a purchase? I read alot of review etc but love real world stories.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 10:42 PM) Don't bother defending this silliness, Rock http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball...etball-facility Hey dont be jealous of our superior facilities ;-) He's a huge donor to the program. I think they state it quite well as it's used for recruiting. Doesnt change the fact I still think he's a tremendous douchebag. The Michael Redd locker room was a much cooler thing. -
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Sep 4, 2013 -> 09:22 AM) That's a good number. Like this deal more than the Crawford deal. I hate long term contracts for goalies in general.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) The whole "they said I couldn't be a college QB" thing bugged me. He was one of the highest rated QB prospects coming out of college was he not? Who exactly was doubting him? Well that was pretty dumb, but I'm sure he's reading a script a director gave him when filming the commercial.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) Isn't he out of options? I dont think anyone else is going to want him. Just my opinion

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) The reasons I feel Tebow is entitled 1) Home schooled but played HS football, which I hate in principle. But he refused to play anything but QB so he left his first team. He acts like it's his god given right to QB. 2) the "thanks for that" commercial I dont like the guy but not sure how thats being entitled. The guy wanted something and went out and got it, and proved he was one of the best HS and college QB's ever. There are alot worse people out there wearing NFL uni's than Tim Tebow.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) I'm still trying to figure out why the lol on Flowers not being a Sox next year. Just cause he was injured? He seems like an average at best player for me. I could see him not being back. Sox have to acquire a catcher who can hit a bit. I agree with you. I think if anything he's in AAA.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) Do they believe it enough to run him out there again next year after his struggles this year when there's an all-star catcher sitting on the free agent market? If he's the #9 hitter and we picked up someone like Abreu with that money, for sure.
-
The Sox definitely think they have a better player in Phegley.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 3, 2013 -> 01:14 PM) Jeff Ross, Andy Samberg, Aziz Ansari, Sarah Silverman, and Jonah Hill were all real good. Really wish they could have had Jeselnik and Shumer on it though, they are great in those roasts. But I think since it was James Franco, they wanted a more prestigious group of roasters. They were all funny I thought. one of the better roasts ive seen.
