QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Thats pretty much the opposite of what Ive read. When you look through the numbers they almost always include those type of things in the budget. http://www.uwbadgers.com/genrel/021213aab.html UW Athletics is requesting a budget of just over $133 million for 2013-14. The figure includes a one-time, $30 million expense for construction costs related to the department’s Student-Athlete Performance Center. {edit} http://www.blackheartgoldpants.com/2011/4/...partments-books That is Iowa from a few years ago. It goes over the $14mil building related expenses and how everything you listed is part of it. The donations basically make most big10 schools profitable. Yup, generally http://businessofcollegesports.com/2011/06...ics-department/ -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:39 PM) This is actually much more complicated than how you present it here. It's generally believed that the largest programs (Ohio State, Alabama, Texas) do in fact make money on their football teams overall, but the bookkeeping is very complicated because of issues like stadium construction and upkeep which in many places have been paid for out of bonds or construction fees taken out by the state or the school. For example, I have a giant, 100,000 person stadium sitting outside my window that gets used literally 6 times per year. That's an enormous stadium cost that someone has paid for, and that cost for most schools isn't shown in the yearly net revenue for football teams. The cost of things like workout facilities, offices, buildings on campus that are used by the people, those things are taken up in many cases by being part of the campus. But, there's a counterpoint also...it's hard to put an exact price on the alumni relations and loyalty that the sports programs bring. They're free marketing for the school, and they're a great way to make alums give money to the school as well. That money doesn't get counted as revenue for the school and the marketing of having millions of people watching a game involving the school is almost impossible to put a dollar amount on. It costs about 150 million to run athletics at Ohio State. Football makes about 50 million and bball about 20 million. If it werent for the donations the overall athletic dept would probably run at a loss. I believe they get more than 20 million in donations/fundraising. -

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) They do have to pay their living expenses, and I do believe the Big 10 has tried to get this amount increased, but other conferences pushed back. I don't understand why the NCAA should put the surplus into other student's tuition. They are the Athletic Association. Most of the major schools make all their money on Football and Men's Basketball. They then have to use the money they make there to fund their other programs. How many people pay to go see women's field hockey? I'd bet not enough to fund the team. So that money comes from the money the school makes from Football and Basketball. Most public universities will show this budget breakdown if you want to see the money earned vs spent on other sports. -

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 11:42 AM) Im quietly optimistic about Wisconsin this year. I think people are going to find out real quick about Gary Andersen. He's a good coach, but I think switching to the 3-4 defense is going to hurt the Badgers in year 1. -

QUOTE (Capn12 @ Aug 29, 2013 -> 06:24 AM) I have no ties to OSU or Michigan, and I still think Urban Meyer is a 1st class douchenozzle piece of s***. If he was my head coach, I'd think the same, but that is how it goes. And, those aren't the rules for the entire SEC, just certain teams. South Carolina had to wait months, sit guys out for many games, etc, while waiting on the NCAA to make a decision on whether players getting rack rate on hotel rooms was illegal. Yeah but you are an SC fan. I bet you hate Les Miles and Nick Saban too. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) It's all so incredibly stupid. I get it, Urban is your coach now, but the guy's a first class dbag. Yeah yeah. I'm sure you've never liked a single OSU coach in your lifetime so its not so hard to believe you feel that way. If you liked him I'm sure he wouldn't have been very successful. -

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 05:00 PM) If he didn't know then he's dumber than I can imagine. He's signing hundreds of pieces of memorabilia for a known memorabilia salesman, or whatever their correct term is. And there is 0 chance he didn't get paid for it. I don't believe a kid would spend all that time signing all that crap just out of the goodness of his heart. But I guess it's what you can prove. Thousands of items, thousands. Nobody in the world does that for free. -

So if he didn't do anything what is he suspended for? If he did something why is he suspended only one half? Devier Posey got 5 games for being paid 3.00 extra. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) There probably isn't a successful Division 1 coach who hasn't covered up some things. I'm not an Urban Meyer fan, but really, the thing that would make him unique is never covering things up. Yes, but since he left Florida the behavior there has stayed exactly the same while in Columbus he has booted players for a single positive drug test as well as suspended his best players multiple games when they werent even charged with a single crime. His history in his previous stops also point to there being little to no issues like what happened at Florida. So why again is Meyer the target of this criticism? All things in his career point to his time at Florida being an outlier, and since he left the actions of the players and coaching staff have stayed exactly the same. The University of Florida and its administration clearly have some serious issues. More informed article connecting the vague references in the article to what actually happened and was reported. Probably a bit defensive since its a Florida site, but they clearly have more information on each case: http://www.alligatorarmy.com/2013/8/28/466...ors-urban-meyer

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) The assault can be covered up and, by all indications, was covered up. The drive-by is harder because they didn't have a good view of the shooter and it's still an open case. All they know is that it was a "large Hispanic or Hawaiian person with tattoos all over his arms," because there are none of those in Gainesville. Actually he was 17 at the time and it was handled under juvee law according to the article.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) LOL, you just dismiss them as opinions and falsities. I have given examples before, you just cite the writers as haters, just like you are doing to me right now. Like, who Matt Hayes? Urban broke Florida football so badly that their arrest pace has continued even without him there for 2 years and then made a BCS bowl game. Great article. Where else? Florida and???? You said it follows him everywhere, so far at OSU he has shown to be a disciplinarian compared to not only his predecessor but also his peers even in conference. And yes, that piece by a horrible publication had one negative statement about Urban which was opinion: Once again, how do you cover up a drive by shooting? Or I guess he MAY have done that.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:26 AM) I dont hate either Meyer or Ohio State. And I never said he was responsible for AH possibly murdering people while playing for the Pats. While we are playing the "Tell me again..." game, Tell me again why these "Urban Meyer covers up shady s***" stories follow Meyer pretty much everywhere he goes? Cool, give me an example. That's funny that you dont hate OSU or Meyer now, yet you continue to act like you do.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) uh, what? That's been the haters viewpoints since Hernandez was arrested. How many NFL players were arrested this offseason? Any how many of their college coaches were brought up at fault?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 28, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) Rock, sometimes your defense of all things Ohio State and Urban Meyer gets to Penn State truther levels. Your hate is nothing but rational. Tell me again how Urban is responsible for Aaron Hernandez possibly murdering several people while playing for the pats.

How exactly do you cover up a drive by?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 11:55 PM) I'm sure there is something, look at the history of the Gators while Meyer was there. Meyer's a scumbag. And now silly on top of it - not allowing media/nfl scouts etc to wear blue to practices. OMG rivalry! Telling grown men what to wear - right. Like Tressel, Bruce and Woody before him. Let the media tell you how big of a story it is. I'm sure you have a real issue with Brady Hoke not letting people wear red. The Gators are on the same arrest pace as they were when Meyer was there, in fact a bit ahead of it at the moment. While at the same time Meyer is punishing his players at OSU well beyond what is industry standard. So it is a Meyer issue or a Florida issue? The Rolling Stone article said he "may" have covered something up. Poor reporting as pointed out by several folks already. Not sure how you can be fired for one reporters opinion. The only legit quotes they have really point urban as a scumbag -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) Well there are other problems that arise from a situation like that. She might hear you doing that and get sick herself, but she won't have a bathroom to ralph in, so she will go on your bed or in your sink, neither of which are good options. Also, she may be into that, which makes it 1000x weirder. Of course, she may be the maternal type and she will want to take care of you and hold your hair and rub your back, and then you can get snuggles that night and then you brush your teeth in the morning and get some morning sex, which is always the best by far. I had a girl try to secretly puke in my bathroom sink. It didnt slow me down, I just didnt kiss her face.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 27, 2013 -> 06:15 PM) Advice needed, fairly quickly: Unbeknownst to me, I enrolled in an advertising class that involves both theory AND practice - in other words, I have to do some video editing. I've been advised to buy a portable external hard drive, in which 500 GB is a "good" amount of space and 1 TB is "plenty." I'm new to this market. Can someone tell me what to be looking for? I want something good, but I don't want to blow any more money than I have to at this point. I'll probably continue to use it beyond this course to back up my computer, which I've always wanted to do anyway. Amazon.com check the reviews. I have two different external HD's, a seagate and a western digital. Both have been solid. The smaller one is 1TB, speeds are fast as long as the drive is somewhat new. Here is an example. http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Backup-Deskt...rnal+hard+drive
