Official 2009-2010 NCAA Basketball Thread

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) Good thing Turner never touched the ball in the last ten seconds. What a block by Kramer though. OSU couldnt hit a shot beyond the arc and still had a chance to put it into overtime. You were right the first time when you said OSU is probably a better team. Gotta beat MSU now. Needed to win at at home, terrible loss. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 12:13 PM) So you're more optimistic today than you were yesterday? I was more confident earlier in the offseason when I reported they were talking to Boras on here and in PM's to some folks. I think that Damon could have taken Pierre's place on the roster at that point. There is probably at least a 50% chance we get him which is a tick up from what I thought a few days ago however.

I've been scooped that there is "alot of running around" being done in the Sox front office. They are either working on an offer, or tweaking an existing.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) I have a question for everyone participating in this thread Everyone(I think) has a first love/puppy love crush/relationship, and it usually ends in total disaster due to the inability to deal with new emotions and feelings. How many of you had a first love that ended amicably, how many of you had a first love end in insane craziness that left you with some rather embarrassing memories, and how many of you are actually still with(married) your first love? Since I posed the question I will start. My first true love was with a girl I got with in my freshman year in college, she was a senior at my high school and ended up going to SIU with me. We dated for 3 years off and on, and when I decided that we werent meant for each other, I broke up with her for good. She got the last laugh, she dated the guy who lived in the apartment behind me, and basically drove me up the wall with insane jealousy(i know, i know, I broke up with her). It took about 6 months and a crazy 1 night stand to get her out of my mind and get my head right. My first love started in HS and ended right after college. It was the most f***ed up tumultuous terrible relationship anyone has ever seen. Breakups, cheating, fighting, suicide attempts (not me) it was f***ed up....but insanely exciting. We were mostly in lust to be honest, but it was one of the more electric feelings I've ever had. Didnt end well, and we dont talk to this day.

Rowand. The trade for Thome didnt take the team over the top as expected.

Official 2009-2010 NBA Thread

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 01:20 PM) If nothing else happens, Tyrus will be dumped. I can't see anything less than Thomas and at least one of Salmons or Hinrich being traded. We need to cut ties with Tyrus, it speaks volumes that a rookie can come in and outplay him like Gibson has. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 07:18 PM) Yeah, I just did the same. Taking a week off of plyo really doesn't help...next rest week I'm not going to skip it. How the hell do you upload a file that is small enough to fit here? Jesus Dont know, mine compressed like a mofo and was weird. I may have to host my pics when im done. I am super excited to see what happens this next 30 days. I know my mid section and shoulders are night and day. I have a 4-pack coming in, just need to clean up the lower abs.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) This may surprise you, but many people don't consider moving out into the suburbs (or "the country") to be a "step down." Some people aren't into concrete and congestion. From Boston to NYC to detroit burbs. Looks like a step down to me. Maybe he really likes the suburban pace, but there is also zero metropolis to venture into which is a huge minus. In Chicago at least you can drive or take the train to the city to go out or get something to eat, Detroit, no so much.

f***ing Plyo. Best part of today was taking my 30 day pictures and comparing them to day 1 aka post-holiday cookie body.

What are our realistic chances to land Damon?
RockRaines replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Dont get your hopes up. -
Lombard/Oak Brook. Labriola. Try it. If you dont like it, I'll buy you a beer.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 04:45 PM) Oh, the area around downtown Detroit is definitely worse than the Bronx/Harlem/Yonkers. Then again, there are nice suburbs within a short drive of the Detroit city limits. There's no such thing as a reasonable drive in NYC. Because you take cabs instead? Or the subway? Those Burroughs you listed are like driving to the suburbs in NYC. The island is the draw and what makes it so awesome.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) If you go 20-30 minutes outside of Detroit there are extremely nice neighborhoods, you just wont have a nice city nearby. Locations like Grosse Pointe Park are right next to the city and have a lot of wealth, and places like Ann Arbor are under an hour away to Comerica Park. There just isnt really a good place in the city, atleast not for a multimillionaire. Yeah, but those are suburbs. They've been living in NYC, going from that to Birmingham or Grosse Point is quite a step down, almost like moving to the country.

Olympics: Vancouver 2010 OFFICIAL THREAD

I hope they improve with some practice because the USA team I saw today doesnt have a good shot at medaling -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) I'm not convinced. There is way too much chatter for this to be done. Cashman came out and said the Yankees offerred 2 years/14 million. So basically Boras didnt think that was a good enough offer at the time, but it now reaching for that contract. There is a likelihood he is trying to at least get Damon that contract from someone which is why there is so much media chatter.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Full-time DH's who put up strong numbers do not need to be able to play the field. Part-time DH's who put up questionable numbers and cannot play the field are literally not worth a league-minimum contract (maaaaybe as PH's in the NL) in my opinion. The roster spot is worth more dollars than the player at that point. Especially with us missing an infield-backup. If DH'ing keeps Quentin healthy most of the season, I would say rotation is a good thing IMO. Quentin doing what he can do is better than pretty much all of the primary DH's out there.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 12:06 PM) Game changer...no. But having Thome (for a mere $1.5 million) would have only added to the flexibility that KW and Ozzie keep talking about at the DH position. At 39 years old and in declining health, Thome is not an every day DH. I don't know if one of his stipulations was a certain amount of playing time, but he could have easily been in the DH spot 3 or 4 times a week. Then Ozzie could use others in that position for the remainder of those games. I just don't see the reason for not having signed Thome. However, I will have to assume there are reasons we don't know about. Because the alternative is baffling. So you are in favor of wasting a roster spot for a part time DH that cant even play the field?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 11:22 AM) In 17 at bats, mostly pinch hitting. That has as much validity about anything as if I pointed out that he had a 1.000 OPS in October. He manages to hit 1 HR in those 17 at bats and his OPS goes from .471 to over 1.000. His second half OPS was one of the lowest marks of his entire career.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) We're paying Mark Kotsay as much money as the Twins are paying Jim Thome. A guy that would have solved these problems, and rid me of my concerns. 1.5 million bucks, that's all that it would have cost. That's chump change in the pocket of Mr. Reinsdorf. If 1.5 million bucks proves to be the difference between us winning the divison, and us failing to do so. I am going to be furious. We need this Damon signing like crazy. Thome doesn play the field, they are not the same player so you cannot refer to them as the same piece of the puzzle. Kotsay plays 2 OF spots and 1B whereas Thome just bats.

QUOTE (T R U @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) I already have the Iron Gym, so basically I would just need P90X and some dumbbells and im good to go.. Yup, all good. I have adjustable dumbbells.

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Those are the type I bought. I just finished my first workout doing Chest, Shoulders & Triceps and holy hell am I worn out. It was rough but damn it felt pretty good though. Did you do Ab Ripper X after? Thats the cherry on the sundae.
-
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) What are we talking in terms of price and where can I get them? www.amazon.com search P90X then see all related items. They are super cheap on there.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 15, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) I guess I'm not going to worry too much about it...Just try to get 175 grams of protein a day and eat well and everything will workout in the end... When in doubt, have another shake. With how many cals we need to bring in and how much protein, just eat or drink as much protein as you can.
