Heres one for me though: "Riding the Wave" "getting it while we can" "Until this ends" These are all sentiments that are spoken by players, coaches and the GM of the Sox when talking about us winning. They seem to always point to, well we are just hot, we will cool off again. I HATE that philosophy, it makes players blame their results on something other than themselves and is a losing mentality IMO. I personally think the best teams in the league go out and expect to beat the other team regardless of being hot or cold.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) BA is the only one to get mad about. The other 2 you can't really blame them. BA should be playing everyday until we officially call him "washed up" or solid enough to start. Having him platoon with Wise f***s makes me so incredibly mad. Let him f***ing play. Hasnt he been playing everyday?

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) I loved the car skit where Conan was in an old-school Ford Taurus. That's the car I drove in high school ('92 Taurus), so I guess I thought it was especially hilarious. Also enjoyed the list of things to do in LA that Ferrell told Conan, and Ferrell's entrance was priceless b/c as soon as they showed Conan, you could tell he didn't know that's what was going to happen. 87 taurus right here.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Ok, I admit, this made me think. I actually like the comparison between a DH and a golfer. I'm surprised more defenders of golf do not bring this up. Touché. All I know is that I play golf quite frequently and its literally the hardest sport I have ever tried. I've waterskiied competitively, played numerous competitive sports growing up and through adulthood, and I have never ever been as challenged than at golf. I have also been dead tired after a round of play, played several rounds in a row where mentally I thought I was going to die, and have had some of my best moments in sport on a golf course. Par is the ultimate competition IMO. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:39 PM) To be fair I am not a big fan of Ferrell or Pearl Jam Wow, those are two awesome things you dont like there. A titan of Comedy and an all time great rock band.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) I will always doubt Ozzie when it comes to Brian Anderson. Thats another thing, all the comments in the game thread about how dumb Ozzie is without ever knowing that he sat Brian for most of the game because he has been suffering from the flu.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) There are a couple others here who need to eat some crow on Floyd but will most likely never admit it. Because they still will say he sucks unless he wins 20 with a sub 3 ERA. Like the first 2 pages of the game thread saying he has no balls? He had a mechanical flaw and still does at times, but he is working it out. The guy can pitch and will only get better as his motion becomes his own.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) DHs still do all the same training and spend a lot of time doing BP. It's not like they sit on their ass and all they do is have 4-5 ABs a game. So professional golfers just sit on their ass between tournaments? -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) I don't see the racism there, I just see Joe Morgan showing he is far and away the worst, least well-informed announcer in baseball. Again. I want to know what he thinks a good athlete is exactly, and what makes Bradley one of the best? He is a pretty terrible outfielder, is injury prone, and has a mechanical swing (IMO). There are several players on the Cubs as well as the other side of town that are much better athletes.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) Fields loading motion (IMO) is only going to be cured if he starts bringing his hands up and behind his head. His hands are just too busy when he holds them around the chest Yup, I think he needs to bring his hands down on the ball instead of keeping them down, loading them up, then bring them to the ball.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) I play Golf a lot, I also bowl, but I recognize the difference between those activities and running a full-court basketball game. If more amateurs played without a cart and more pros played without a caddy, I may take it a little more serious. How about playing 72 holes of golf vs playing a few games as a DH? Golf is a physical skill sport based on muscle memory, consistency, aim, endurance, and huge freaking balls. Shooting a basketball in a hoop is much easier for more people than playing a round of par at a golf course, regardless of how much you sweat. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:13 AM) While I agree that Josh's swing looked messed up last night, the thing that I have noticed about him over the past few weeks is that he seems to be consistently "just under it". They say you get an average of one good pitch to hit per at bat, and Josh has fouled that one pitch straight back time and time again. His timing has been right there on those pitches, but he's not centering it. He's below center constantly. He's dropping his shoulder which will make even the best hitters pop it up or just swing under it.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) ESPN also airs the Spelling Bee, you know. Where did I say anything about ESPN? Do you even play golf? If you actually read what you quoted you could see its something that involves athletic skill or physical prowess. -

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) I won't agree with comparing Golf to one of the major sports. As the word "sport" is defined in the dictionary. Golf is most definately a sport, and one of the more difficult ones at that. -
He can play 3B, but I firmly believe Beckham brings more to the team.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) What's with Linebrink in the 9th inning? I know we had a 4 run lead, but Jenks didn't even get up after Thome's homer. Are we showcasing Linebrink in some save situations (or close to it) as trade bait for teams looking for a closer? Or are we possibly thinking about trading Jenks? I'm probably looking to much into this, but whatever. Nice win tonight! Gotta love late inning wins. He's been suffering from the flu and Ozzie probably wanted to give him more rest, dont look that much into it.

I still think he has the ability to be a solid everyday player, the problem is that we have a guy who has a chance to be a star nipping at his heels.

QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 11:12 AM) Everyone in this thread still proves me right. It seems that because it's Lebron, he's supposed to go out of his way to show that he's a classy individual. Well guess what people, he's human. If this was anyone else on that team that left, no one here would give two s***s. But since it's the guy who was supposed to win it all, the MVP, etc. Now he's a b**** or selfish because he didn't congratulate the winning team. Get the f*** outta here. I'm sure all of you have always made the unselfish decision when it matters. Sportsmanship. I've seen guys in the UFC pummel each other's faces into a bloody pulp after talking about their families pre-fight. They always shake hands. Its part of being a real competitor, respecting the game and sportsmanship. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Since we're on the subject, I have the problem of occasionally pulling muscles in those areas, side of my neck, etc. Happens randomly, last time I was sitting around basically doing nothing when my neck started to hurt. Goes away after a day or two, but I keep wondering why I'm doing it or if there's anything that can be done to avoid it. Take your right arm and place it behind your back and grab your right hand with your left hand and your left arm should be out like a chicken wing. Now roll your head to the left and you should feel the stretch in the right side of your neck. Now repeat with the other side. Do this before any shoulder, back, chest workout.

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 31, 2009 -> 12:09 PM) Most guys that have him labeled him as classy , usually watch games from their tv and have no clue on what the guy is like if you seen him play in person for several games. I have seen James play close to 20 games in person and he does do things out of camera view that puts him no where near the top 50 classy guys in basketball. Guy has a huge ego (selfish), Jordan had a different kind of ego and I seen him play in person over 100 times. In Jordans case, he helped his teammates a bunch with defensive techniques on time outs. I always seen him as a coach out there, he was very animated sometimes but you could tell he really cared about the individual and the team most of all. Just saying , you dont see it all by just watching the tube, and to label an individual as that being your backing is just silly. Dont kid yourself, Jordan was a f***ing asshole to his teammates. But he did have a drive to succeed that still probably hasnt been equaled. -

QUOTE (Texsox @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) but perhaps some people here had talents that negated them having to take a reading class. If you believe that cheating is ok, well that says a lot about your character. Nice to see the two "moral" folks on here casting stones have resorted to making personal attacks. Have at it fellas. I revel in your ability to be completely just in everything you do in your life. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Actually many people would still do the work, because they do actually want to learn something. These are the same people who read in their own free time, and go back to study for higher degrees because they want to. We do exist out there. Yes, but you arent a professional athlete nor were you a star 1 and done player in college. I know WE exist out there. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 29, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) I think you cheated your way through reading comprehension if you got that out of it. Ah, so now I have a problem and we have to accuse me of something. Pretty lazy post out of you, maybe this generation's work ethic is getting to you. I scored every bit of my SAT and ACT scores without any help and studied and grinded my way through college like the rest of us. Were there classes I thought were a joke and superfluous to the attainment of my degree? Of course. So I know how these kids with basically zero future outside of basketball felt about their classes. Fact is, they couldnt have done it without someone in charge having a hand in the process, and those people should face some sanction. Either way, I dont feel the athletes that were "in" my classes cheated me out of anything, I know what they brought to the school and I know the school used them as much if not more than they used it. Thats big time Universities for you.
