  1. so what do you guys see getz doing this year? frankly if he leads off...i think he basically gives you exactly what orlando cabrera gave last year ...
  2. wow van benschoten is inconsistent....that breaking ball was just rolling over the plate...lots of hitters hit that out of the park
  3. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) Getz bringing them all home. I agree with Kalapse on Betemit. Just think about our bench the last couple of years. Have we had anyone that could come in and hit a homer off the bench? going back to 03....
  4. triple and an error letting getz round em all i love me some chris getz...by sept i think ramirez CF beckham SS getz 2b might be the best spots for everyone
  5. seems like viciedo has a nice approach...
  6. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) Well look on the bright side: it'll help keep ERA's down. lol but the balls fields, ramirez, wise, dye and konerko don't get to, as well as the baserunners AJ doesn't throw out will all inflate the ERAs....its entirely possible that 2b will be our only above average defender this year....Quentin is probably above average too, but not great
  7. at this rate betemit will have his career high in errors by the end of ST
  8. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) 4-3 strikes again And f*** YOU weird announcer guy. All what tools? Speed? Check. . . . alright that's all I got. lol i'll give the announcer a pass because 1.) i think he's actually a basketball announcer, and 2.) he somehow is able to put up with Melton for an entire broadcast
  9. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) How did Australia beat Mexico by 10 runs? That's a big surprise...not quite like the Netherlands over DR, but close. because 1 game means absolutely nothing....every ST some middle of the road college team beats a pro team...like BC over the red sox
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) Easily one of the most valuable players in the game last year. His .306 EQA certainly stands out. Getting hung up on his batting average or for whatever reason 130 strikeouts is just silly. He nearly walked 100 times last year while putting up a .233 ISO (that's some big time power right there), he stole 38 bases and was only caught 5 times which is an 88% success rate (now THAT is a valuable base stealer as opposed to a s***ty one like Jerry Owens) and he played above average defense at one of the most important positions in the game. His BB/K last year was 0.75, which is quite good. I'll gladly take 98 and 130 over say 30 and 80. Sure he's not as good as Albert Pujols but then again no one is. Hanley Ramirez K'd 122 times last year while walking 92 times. Are you going to tell me he K's too much? People get hung up on the silliest things. this post should be framed and hung on the wall for all to see
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 12:37 PM) Win 2 points Loss 0 points That's how it SHOULD be. However you get there, you get the points. At worst you have teams playing for the shootout, in which they still have to win. OT losses and shootout losses shouldn't count for s***. It's a f***ing loss! This completely eliminates playing for a tie. in this case....why even have it be 2 points? how about a simple 1 or 0? or better yet, why even have points then...just have a true W-L record like every other sport

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 12:24 AM) DBAHO has to be feeling good after Australia kicked some ass (even had the mercy rule an inning early) against Mexico on their field. I am personaly SHOCKED by that, seeing as a group of what was basically White Sox minor leaguers ran circles around the Aussies a few days ago and Mexico has a lot of veteran MLB players, but I guess it was just one game in both cases. And Venezuela had a shocking lack of depth in pitching, good to see the USA take advantage. while i certainly enjoy watching it, the WBC means jack...if you drop 2 of 3, you are out...which is ridiculous...the pirates could beat the red sox 2/3, but it doesn't at all tell the strength of the teams...its just way too small of a sample size to mean anything (hell the 5 game LDS series are too small to actually really separate the better team from the worse team, and even arguably the 7 game LCS and WS)...that said theres nothing MLB can really do about it, as extending the WBC is not a viable option, but its gonna happen frequently that the better team (USA in 06, DR this year) loses when they shouldn't
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 07:00 AM) Despite what he did the first week of spring training, Corky Miller cannot hit. I think he has a .176 career batting average. yep, and stewarts is .188...though corky miller has had had a nice batting eye in his career in the minors...im still pretty disappointed KW didn't go after Blanco who would have been a perfect fit here IMO....
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) There is a certain time period. You need to be up for a large enough fraction of the year for it to count. The date IIRC is usually sometime around June 1. Re: Becks starting this season at 2b: am I the only one who noticed that he was hitting .231 coming in to today? Yes, he had a day today, but come on. that also doesn't take into account his exhibition game he had the other where he went 2-5 with a walk...
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) K OGER! sounds like one of those old fashioned car horns ... k-uuuger
  16. beckhams good....just may play his way onto the roster
  17. wow melton is dumb..he actually pronounced the p and s in corps
  18. beckham has such a nice approach and it appears a good batting eye....double the other way on a 2-2 count...this kid can flat out play...

    WBC # 2

wow what a big call for the US on that play rollins made...especially considering martin doubled
  20. what a boring game...offensively getz was the only one who really looked good...the 2b battle will be intriguing
  21. QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) Was Guillen watching? After 1 or 2 games, he started saying his defense is subpar and this and that. He was just preparing the kid for the news about being sent to the minors. This happens not only to Viciedo. It happens every year to many players. When you have minor league options or you are the first one to arrive, usually you are send down. It is time to get something in return for all the time and money the Sox have spent in Fields. sox have spent significantly more money on viciedo
