  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 04:36 PM) Seeing OC's "GG defense" this season makes me appreciate Uribe's defense in his time with the Sox. OC has been much better lately than his first 2 months though, but overall i agree uribe was a better defender
  2. cust is such a horrible defender...not that too many guys get to that, but alot get closer to it
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 04:33 PM) Mora, Rios, and Ibanez have had pretty solid days. i know you are fathom, but hte rest of soxtalk should collectively be rooting against the redsox more than we are...
  4. nathan in for beltre...damn...still only takes a single to tie it
  5. i hope this is javy getting into one of those stretches he can have.... stay hot ibanez
  6. 3-1 pitch to konerko looked like a strike....but ill take it...how do the A's not have anyone warming up?
  7. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) i think our pitching is back:) i think facing the royals and As as opposed to detroit and boston also has something to do with it, but nontheless it is nice to see... keep mashing CQ
  8. i know when i first joined soxtalk it was pretty unique...didnt see much of these types around...now in the days of blogs everywhere i think some people have gone elsewhere to fufill their sports fix...but i think soxtalk has retained a solid core of posters, and frankly, i think it has improved... not sure if the mods just are better at cleaning it up, but it seems like the trade winds are far superior...seemed like eveyrthing this year was at least a moderately substantial rumor and wasnt stupid posts like "my ideas on how we can get pujols!" that said i do think there are certain high profile , high post count posters, who do tend to drive new posters away with a kind of pompous attitude...but thats to be expected i suppose
  9. way to go after the first pitch cabrera....after just about everyone in the lineup has had a hitters count so far
  10. wow what a play.....bobby crosby is a tremendous shortstop.....his hands are unreal
  11. gio is lucky to have only given up 1 so far
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) Other examples are Jon Adkins' and Nick Masset's 95-98 MPH heat and Anderson Gomes' amazing speed and athleticism. i believe anderson gomes was a dave wilder creation...along with paulo orlando gio cant locate.....hasnt thrown anything but a fastball for a strike....and even thats been all over...sit on one in your zone and just rip him
  13. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 11:41 PM) If that's the case, then why aren't there swimmers winning 7-8 medals every Olympics? certainly it doesnt happen every olympics but in the past 10 olympics it has happened twice, and id be willing to bet that a pretty significant number of them have won 4 or 5.....im not arguing that he has been the best swimmer ever, im simply saying that there are alot of other people in other sports who never get the chance to win 8 medals, but may own their sport in an equally dominating fashion
  14. even though we are winning right now...this has been a poorly played game...especially on O ...lots to be concerned about, not alot to be excited about
  15. what i dont get ....people say phelps is the greatest olympian ever....but how many people can even get the opportunity to win 8 medals? You can be the best wreslter in the world, but you only can get 1 medal. Ditto basketball player. I suppose track and field you can do alot of events, but in swimming, phelps got 2 medals for swimming 100m of butterfly (medley relay and individual) also the 200 fly i think he got it for which are all very similar races....don't get me wrong congrats to the guy on 8 golds..its pretty cool, but i think what he did is overplayed by the general population, because 95% of olympians dont even get a chance to win 8 medals, based strictly on the nature of their sports
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) I love Jordan Danks. He's a tremendous athlete and projects to be a great defensive outfielder. Offensively he could turn into a real nice #2 hitter (ie, .300 avg, 10-15 hr's, 20-30 SB's). he could have better power than that if things go right....coming out of high school he was a HUGE prospect, and was considered to have very good power...i believe he took second and only lost by 1 HR to Justin upton in big scouting HR competition (with wood bats i believe)
  17. played the mets at home.....i went to al leiter vs. sirotka (i think).....Piazza hit a bomb IIRC and tony graffanino hit a HR and drove in the only 2 runs for the sox...and they won 2-1 we also played the braves in ....04 i think....the year before jaret wright went to FA...he carved us up at home....and i thought for sure we were gonna sign him that offseason... thats a pretty favorable interleague schedule i think...then again, any national league schedule is rather favorable EDIT: that mets game couldn't have been sirotka, he was gone by then...looked it up, it was danny wright in 02, and piazza didnt HR he drove the run in on a double
  18. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 10:12 PM) Cubs lose. It's a shame that Florida gave the game away yesterday, should be going for a sweep with Volstad tomorrow. The Cubs schedule the next few weeks is a joke. its been a joke for a long time
  19. beckham with a walk in his first AB...his batting eye gives him a chance to be truly special, better than the Long Beach Duo of Tulo and Longoria IMO
  20. ramirez has to get to that......nice D this inning
  21. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 12:51 AM) Not just saying this because I'm pissed off right now, but I haven't been 100% completely sold on this team at any point this year. We still might win the division (we're extremely fortunate the Tigers and Indians dropped off the face of the planet). But I don't think this team is really THAT good. We look good at times when were we go HR derby on everybody. But this isn't a high level I.Q. team. thats a good way of putting it...i feel the exact same way...i want to think this team is good enough to have a special year, but for some reason i have a tough time buying it...that said in the playoffs anything can happen (06 cardinals) but those are typically few and far between..... we need linebrink back and pitching well bad.....also i dont think ramirez is the answer to the other lefty out of the pen....our inability to develop our draft picks has absolutely killed us
  22. QUOTE (almagest @ Aug 16, 2008 -> 12:48 AM) The A's only hit like 78 homers this year, and scored all 6 of their runs on 4 homers tonight. They also hadn't scored 4 or more runs in like 8 games, and score 6 tonight. I think there were like 2 guys hitting above .240 in the starting lineup tonight. I don't understand why you call for a fastball in that situation at all. Suzuki means nothing. Throw a breaking ball outside off the plate and down. Again, I also don't understand why Bobby wasn't in there. just saw the replay....it was a hanging slider for sure....bad execution in that situation...either way i think you gotta walk kurt and patterson and take your shot with ellis
