  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 11:27 PM) Phelps is good. Kind of lame that Americans would actually pull against him for any reason. I want all US athletes to kick arse at the Olympics. It's not his fault the media is following him around all the time. The guy has a chance to make history this year. If he was on team France, than I would agree with all you. its not like im rooting for the french...im just rooting for the other americans...i sitll want phelps to beat everyone else i think the main thing is that frankly...i just dont care, i mean i guess go america, but swimming blows, as does fencing, gymnastics, beach volleyball, and just about everything else in the olympics besides basketball, boxing, wrestling and baseball (im sure im missing something in there) .....i guess i just have a hard time getting excited about swimming, even if it is an american dominating, so i get annoyed by the media frenzy of michael phelps, and that has created a bit of a distaste for the guy in my mind....especially when chicago is in the middle of two pennant races, and the bears/college football is starting up in 3 weeks
  2. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2008 -> 11:17 PM) Michael Phelps is really annoying. This has reached ESPN/Tiger Woods proportions. i for one, am rooting for the other americans to beat phelps in the individual events....dont know why...just never like rooting for the front runner, media frenzy athletes (though i do enjoy watching tiger, but i think thats because he makes golf worth watching IMO)
  3. i am so sick of the olympics...what an overrated sporting event.... gymnastics blows...you watch them flip once, its cool and then they do the same s*** over and over again swimming? yawn...they go back and forth and in the end one finishes a half second in front of the other....big deal, even if phelps is good i understand rooting for your country...but id rather root for my country while watching the USA bball team or baseball team...this other s*** is so boring IMO
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Overrated? AJ gets no recognition. nationally? no....but by sox fans? i feel a bad word is never said about him....and he does plenty of things on the baseball field below average
  5. AJ is such an overrated baseball player IMO
  6. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:33 AM) It's time to junk the entire "trade prospects for quality major leaguers" line that KW has done over the past few years. We can see the results of this strategy when we have only one option when a starter goes down. And the spiel about damaging Poreda's trade value is ridiculous. You're saying some organization is going to go, "s***, he did bad in a few starts. Ignore the fact that he's a LHP who can throw 100 MPH and is 21?" i think its more our ability to draft and develop players that has left our minor league system barren...trading guys like gio doesn't help, but everytime we trade a guy like that, we should have another one or two coming up ... on another note...im pretty excited to see getz....if uribe is gonna play 3rd everyday it seems getz is a much better fit to play utility guy than fields...i like the way this kid has developed so far...his recent power is very encouraging and i could see him turning into a solid ballplayer...IMO hes the best position prospect we have (until beckham signs, and not counting fields since hes been in the majors )
  7. QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 11:29 PM) Edwards is a total snake oil salesman. Totally 'me first gimme gimme' politician. His whole thing about poverty has always been about him getting more money, more power. I have no respect for John Edwards, never have. It's Democrats like him that really hurt that party. edit: this 'scandal' actually hasn't changed my mind at all about this guy. it's a media frenzy and it's stupid. the guy is a fraud and always has been. i agree...the guy is a sleeze's sleeze....coming from an ambulance chasing attorney turned politician im not sure at all why this should surprise anyone
  8. one of the finest defensive players i have ever seen....at least on a day to day basis
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 8, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) It is amazing how he goes from sucking to all of a sudden hitting homers. what is amazing is how this cardinals team can remain in contention...i honestly think they would be in dead last in the AL central... ugh god the NL is just so stinking bad oh and for the record... http://teamrankings.com/mlb/27powerratings.php3
  10. i doubt he does well...though the jets play a joke of a schedule this year.... they get the incredibly horrible NFC West, the bad AFC West, their division which is poor outside NE, then Cincy and tenn as wild cards... 2 against NE, one @ SD are tough, but outside of that everything is winnable for them IMO
  11. lagrange road to the stevenson to the ryan, off at 35th....

    Memphis

what to do in memphis? leave and make the 2.5 hour drive to ca$hville
  13. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:00 AM) ERA in the 5's would be better than what we've seen lately... But in all seriousness, Freddy has never been a power pitcher, he has always been finess, if he can spot his pitches he can be successful once again in this league. If he still has that nasty curve, i think he'll be okay. freddy was absolutely a power pitcher back in the day
  14. its the NL...he is probably at least a league average pitcher
  15. manny was traded to the dodgers according to si.com
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) f***. Awful. Danny Richar has way too much upside to be traded for Griffey here. Looks like they must really like Chris Getz, because Danny probably had the inside for 2B next year. danny richar is a 25 year old with a .748 OPS at AAA....he has never been a top prospect...and if the sox get someone like affeldt also back then its not even close to being an awful deal plus alexei and beckham are gonna be the long term up the middle combo
  17. richar and masset is about what i thought it would take....in my mind getz has passed richar as a prospect and now that we have alexei, along with beckham in the future....richar was expendable....masset stinks too so i have no problem with him going
  18. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 09:03 AM) jeremy affeldt? wtf? anyone listening to teh score? i actually kinda like affeldt
  19. score says either weathers or affeldt part of the deal.....
  20. QUOTE (heirdog @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Not to switch topics but ESPN also reporting the Bears might get Favre...just what I saw on ESPN. What a day if the Sox and Bears get MVP type players from the mid-90s on their last legs (arms). yeah i heard on the score that theres a possibility that if the packers are backed into a corner, they might end up having to deal him to a divisional rival...IMO thats just posturing to try to get some AFC team to pay up for him
  21. btw someone on the redszone message board said griffey was seen saying goodbyes to the guys in cincy...so take that fwiw
  22. assuming it is for 2 minor leaguers...who from the 25 man roster leaves? BA or masset has to be involved in the deal it would seem to me
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) I must say, last night I saw Junior park one and thought "wow, Junior's really heating up..." Who knows? Maybe he hits .280 from here on out, but I still don't get it. i agree with you steve.....just look at thome...he was slow early in the year, but you knew the guy would hit....ditto griffey....especially since early in the year he may have pressed a bit tryin to get to 600 i like this deal...griffey will give a high walk rate, solid power and looks to be getting stronger this season
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Stone on the Score right now says this may be setting up another deal. fixed...just so soxtalk doesnt go nuts trying to figure out what the bigger trade would be, when in fact there may not even be a bigger trade
