  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:58 PM) Cough* DLS, Gio for Swish; Carter for Quentin*Cough thats fine, but we did jack s*** to reload our farm system in teh last 3 drafts....the mets traded a better package for santana than we did for swisher, and still have enough prospects to be going after matt holliday and alot of other big names on the market.. lots of teams trade packages of prospects and still have something left on teh farm....the fact that trading 3 prospect depleted our farm of anything relevant and left us with the worst system in the majors is sad
  2. let this thread be exhibit number 1 as to why its important to invest in the draft and to have a fruitful minor league system....the cubs and brewers were able to make themselves better very easily, while we are gonna have a very difficult time getting anything of any type of substance done
  3. btw is moronic to think that oakland would take konerko or contreras....the absolute last thing billy beane wants are old guys with long, multi million dollar deals, let alone old guys with long, multi million dollar deals that are unlikely to produce more than young guys who they control for many years
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 04:38 PM) Is Fields really someone Oakland would target? He just seems like the polar opposite of a Beane type player. well he doesn't fit with their defensive minded thought lately...but offensively, if theres a team who could care less about his Ks...its the A's.... we dont have alot to offer, but the only reason i would somewhat believe it is because they like guys that fit in their organization....id imagine chris getz, josh fields, aaron poreda and charlier haeger would all be in the discussion...potentially along with egbert and his GB ratio....
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 11:58 AM) I haven't seen the roster, but I'm sure it's Berman. It was classic that he didn't do the Masters on ESPN and then wore a green jacket on BBTN that Sunday night. The Masters has a history of dictating the announcers (i.e. McCord can't do the CBS broadcast and Fehrety is toned down). I hope the Masters told Berman to stick it and didn't want to be associated with him. thats exactly what happened....they didnt want the masters to have berman's goofball announcing with it...i cant stand chris berman either the derby is just a horribly overrated event these days, juiced balls and bats, terrible announcing and its like 5 hours long with horrendous interviews with players not even participating...i havent watched in a few years and i certainly wont this year
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) I'm probably gonna get blasted for saying this because I always do and nobody ever actually stops to read what I'm saying, but Tom Brady gets way more credit than he deserves for the Pats' 3 SB wins. Thanks to ESPN's constant verbal fellating of him, people now think he's the greatest QB ever. He may have that 50 TD record now (which some guy named Randy Moss and a ridiculously good offensive line may have had something to do with, by the way), and he's a Hall of Famer, but cmon. brady has always had alot around him, youre right, which certainly helped...but most of the greats do too, peyton always had tons around him too....montana and young had rice, elway had great running games etc. ....i dont think hes the best ever, at least not yet, but its hard to argue with what the guy has done....though i do think he had the benefit of knowing the defense before they even lined up frequently
  7. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 08:54 AM) I'd put Tillman on that list before Harris. Tillman has been living off one game of defending Moss for his entire career. i disagree....Al Harris was a poor defensive player for his first handful of years in the NFL, hes been very good in green bay, but he struggled early Tillman also IMO is underrated as can be, at least on a national level....tillman is not a lockdown man coverage corner, but he also hardly is ever asked to be...he plays the cover 2 corner about as well as anyone in the league IMO...about a year ago KC Joyner used his metric stats and he determined that both vasher and tillman (and Harris for accuracy) were among the top 6 most underrated corner backs in the league....when it comes to being physical at the cornerback position, few guys are as physical as tillman
  8. im a pretty big charlie haeger fan (especially long term) and he has really had the feel for the knuckler lately in AAA...id give him the first shot i think
  9. this is a message to vazquez and contreras more than anything
  10. best team in baseball fathom? they were 6-9 in interleague....they are 22-7 against the joke that is the NL West....i hate boston as much as the next guy... but people forget they have been one of the top 3 or 4 teams in baseball just about all year without one of the best players in baseball...if ortiz gets healthy that team is so good....i mean they could be the best, but i think id give the nod to boston, tampa, or anaheim even....i mean just looking at the teams, id say the cubs are better than the white sox, but when you look at the numbers its tough to argue that they are significanty better than us
  11. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) As of Friday Josh Hamilton has 91 rbi's heading into the ASB, there are only 4 guys who had a higher total. Name one. hack wilson....though there was no all star break back then, but at this point during his season i would think he would have and also hank greenberg had some enormous RBI seasons so ill guess him
  12. haha whats funny is that rodgers is gonna get murdered for every loss, every INT, every mistake....i think its safe to say that rex wont be the most scrutinized QB out there anymore
  13. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 06:40 PM) He's no Sex Cannon. frankly at this point...if you put both favre and grossman out on that field with that O line, that WR corps and that running game, im not sure favre really out does rex by much
  14. carrasco was huge tonight btw....thats pretty much the definintion of what you want your long reliever to do
  15. poreda got roughed up.... getz's new found power has me as excited about him as any prospect we have in our system
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 10:58 PM) You're right. We looked very stellar from yesterday, to the get-go today, to the end. im not saying we looked stellar...we looked poor, but we looked poor because we walked guys made mistakes in the field and played poor baseball all around, which is why we lost.... its not some sort of "dead" attitude that is causing us to play poor baseball and thus lose....its poor baseball causing us to lose and thus look dead
  17. instead of saying this team is dead after every single loss...do people ever stop and consider that maybe its losing that makes a team look dead, and not the other way around?
  18. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:43 AM) Robin > Joe. No question. with out a doubt....i love joe, but he is one of the most overrated players in sox history
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 01:27 AM) I forgot Robin. He didn't blossom til he went to NY, though. false
  20. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 11, 2008 -> 08:04 AM) Did you hear what Boers and Bernstein kept replaying? The TV call with Brenly and Kasper, the ball is hit and the whole crowd gasps and Kasper says "And it is now 10-5" and Brenly is in the background saying "It was windblown" I hope he was just kidding, but he sounded serious i just saw the highlights....no doubt in my mind brenly was joking about it being windblown
  21. pineilla was traded for randy winn
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) High 5! http://www.rosswalker.co.uk/movie_sounds/s.../high_five1.wav i hope chris rongey reads soxtalk
  23. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 9, 2008 -> 09:58 PM) On an 0-1 pitch to Dye, OC stole 3rd, Dye swung and missed, then struck out swinging. i mean what happened in the dugout
  24. what exactly happened between OC and dye...i didnt see it.... btw the bullpen makes me have to change my pants
