QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:37 PM) Since I guess this is the NBA thread now, Elton Brand will apparently sign with the 76ers. ESPN story That's a VERY interesting team once it becomes official and they extend Iguodala (though no assumptions yet since we said the same thing about the Clippers after they signed Davis). wow haha i thought brand was going to take less with the clippers so that davis could sign....either way that philly team is gonna be good next year...they were already high flying up and down the court and brand is gonna solidify their half court offense....thaddeus young looks to have a bright future too

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:36 PM) I don't think the WC will come from AL Central. Red Sox are a vast superior team to the Sox, so I won't even worry about that aspect. Tigers and Twins are the main teams to be concerned about the rest of the way. ya i was just editing that into my post -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) Red Sox got the lead in the 8th! nice ....though if somehow we get passed by minny we are fighting boston for the WC, but even still if we dont beat out minny we prolly wont beat out boston anyways....farmer just jinxed it though...he just said they came back and won, when there is still an inning to play -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:29 PM) Manny just tied the game at 5 in the 8th! what a truly great player that guy has been -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) I better not hear this as an excuse, especially after Jose last season being given a free pass. seriously, this is baseball...get the f*** over it jose and quit giving it up like a dirty whore like you have over the past month +

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:20 PM) Didn't KW trade for Todd Ritchie? yeah i think he did, and that certainly is one of the worst..... kip wells had two pretty solid years for the pirates after that...but beyond that fogg and wells kinda sucked so that trade gets criticized mroe than it should IMO -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 09:17 PM) Over the last 31 innings, Contreras has allowed 62 hits and walks. when its all said and done the extension to jose may go down as KWs worst move as a GM, its certainly up there at least ryan dempster just walked 4 guys to force in a run -

i hope broadway gets the call when bobby goes to the DL and pitches well enough to get a look over jose -
QUOTE (R.J. @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:03 PM) We don't have the ammunition nor a place to dump Thome to make this feasible. would love teixeira...but these guys all hit it on the head...it just wouldnt work out

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:01 PM) I wonder if the AL is weakening as all our best pitchers head to the NL. the AL certainly took a hit by those two guys going to the other league...but the pitching in the AL is still far, far ahead of the NL -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:58 PM) I think Poreda and Fields could get you some big time talent. Bedard is an injury mess, I want nothing to do with him. thats true...i dont see KW giving up on either personally though...especially since we have no real obvious upgrade anywhere except over contreras -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) With the horrible shape of our bullpen, I have no problem if he does. I'll make a rare pessimistic post...the Sox will go 1-5 this week. we are 1 guy short, but we still have a pretty good and rested bullpen though -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) After seeing what the Cubs gave up for Harden, maybe the trade market is better than we think. we certainly dont have anything nearly as good as gallagher close to the majors...maybe some teams would like poreda, but hes still even 2 years away probably and teams dealing at the deadline usually want guys they can run out there next year -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:51 PM) I thought it was Konerko's fault also. I don't think it matters tonight, Contreras has NOTHING. His forkball is atrocious. I have no faith in Contreras the rest of the season, and think we might be in the market for another starting pitcher in a few weeks. we got nothing to offer that will bring anything of value in return -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 07:44 PM) Contreras' forkball is floating to the plate tonight. It's usually more effective when it has a quicker break. He's also dropping down a ton to righties, and his stuff is rather poor. It's going to be a long night for him. i know hes been solid overall on the year, but i have very very little confidence in jose -
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) Hell, Even with the injury issues I would have traded Contreras and Egbert/Broadway for Harden and Gaudin in an instant. That would have been a better deal for the A's and they could still contend with Contreras in their rotation. I was pining for a Contreras-Harden swap during the offseason, and it would have made sense for both teams at the time. Harden was hurt and had not pitched 100 innings in two years, and Contreras had sucked, but at least the A's could pencil him into the rotation and Jose's stuff, though it had dropped off a bit, was still pretty good. why the hell would the As want contreras? he's the opposite of a billy beane player....over priced and old
-
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) This makes no sense what so ever. what doesnt make sense? what i meant to say was that even if the sox wanted to get harden (which we clearly dont) or any other player for that matter...we have very little that we could offer that would top the weak crop of players that the cubs gave....maybe poreda anderson and richar are comparable to gallagher murton and patterson, but you can easily make a case for each of those cubs players over the sox players... i was simply commenting on how bad our system is
-
not that we needed harden, but its sad that the white sox didnt even have an offer that would have been able to top what the cubs gave
-
great trade for the cubs...they gave up jack in murton and patterson...donaldson is hitting .217/.276/.349 in LoA and is nearly 22 already....awful trade for the As imo
-
certainly not the cardinals...i dont care how well that team has played thus far, i certainly dont consider them a division winning calibur team...of course a team that isnt division winning calibur is going to win the NL west as well, but the cubs are still the favorites in my opinion...best offense in the division, best bullpen in the division (and its still just a decent pen) and a deeper rotation still than the brewers
