QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:55 PM) Does anybody know for what? CDR no, its an international guy...pax said whoever the guy was (we will find out who soon) that he wouldn't be playing here probably for 3 or so years.... pax said they targetted two guys in this draft, and they got them both...so im guessing it was one of the international guys taken ahead of them...Pekovic or Asik (whom hollinger had rated as a top 10 prospect in this draft)
-
pax said today that he got one offer today for the #1 pick that was "pretty good"....it definitely sounded like it tempted pax, but ultimately he said its too difficult to give up the #1 overall pick....i wonder who it was for

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2008 -> 11:14 PM) I know exactly what the stats are, as I watch more college basketball than anyone. However, I guarantee there's not a single scout that thinks CDR is a good shooter. He had a great college career by shooting over 2 guards that he was bigger than. fathom....how about bilas saying the thing shan foster needed to improve on was his 3 point shooting...that alone should get bilas fired

i dont wanna sound like too big of a downer because i love rose's athleticism but here are a few reasons why i dont really love the pick..... http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/leaders?grou...ts&sort=AVG #90 with the talent memphis had around him and playing in that conference? (to his credit he averaged about 3 fewer minutes than most the people at the top) 71% Free throw %...thats bad especially for a slasher who should get to the basket and draw fouls 34% 3 point %...thats also bad for a guard
-
well im excited about rose, but im a tad disappointed we didnt take beasley....but i was expecting this
-
chad ford said a 3 different GMs have called him saying they keep hearing that the bulls are gonna trade for dwayne wade...take that FWIW
-
generally i like holmes, especially for bears talk...but hes the most stubborn talk radio host now that north is gone...you are right he does act like a know it all, and if you disagree he gets pretty animated about it i dislike boers and bernstein...especially boers...not only is he 1.) not funny, but 2.) he thinks hes funny, and 3.) he tries to be funny all the time....not a good combo, if they spent as much time talking about meaningful stuff as they do trying to crack jokes and ragging on callers and other sports personalities they might have a halfway decent show

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 04:19 PM) Sadly, I agree, as Pablo was one of my favorite bench players. Outside of bunting well, the only thing that Pablo brought to the table was his base-stealing ability. As long as Wise is on the roster, I don't see the need for a 35-year-old pinch-runner down the stretch. not to mention down the stretch we will have owens on the team (at least in sept) that will be our designated pinch runner
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 04:14 PM) This team needs guys who can come off the bench and play fundamental baseball, be that bunting, or pinch hitting. Uribe does what the rest do, swings for the fences. He just does it at the poorest rate in the majors. Ozuna is the OBVIOUS decision. ozuna is probably the worst defensive player on the team (not counting thome), and uribe is arguably the best....also im fairly sure that for 2 straight years juan lead the team in success rate with a runner at 3rd and less than 2 outs....pablo may be able to bunt better, but i think wise might be getting that call from here on out anyways
-
juan will probably be gone, but id rather say bye to pablo...pablo has way overperformed himself in his limited role here, and as much as i like the guy, he is what he is...a poor defender, poor on base ability, zero power.....while he will get a few hits and can run and bunt those qualities off the bench are there now in the form of wise....id rather have uribes superior defense and occasional power...although the fact that juan hasnt played 3rd in a long time will also really hurt his case for being on the team

Sox @ Dodgers Game 2 Floyd vs Stults 9:10
daa84 replied to letsgoarow's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 25, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) Well, I can already guarantee the Sox are losing tomorrow (not only is it against a rookie, not only is he a lefty, but he's f***ing Kershaw, so forget about it), so hopefully they can win tonight. id almost rather face kershaw than soft tossing lefties with changeups -
i cant believe we havent had trade winds open yet...mainly because there has been so little talk...i cant honestly remember a period of time during the last few years when there has been so little sox trade discussion as there has been the last 6 months....i guess thats what happens when you have absolutely no bullets left down on the farm
-
whew....finally they lose at home god i hate their fans so much...hang that L flag
-
nice ...got cedeno...need the ground ball now
-
alot of times i fall asleep listening to dan patrick or todd wright and wake up to mike north....its a horrible start to the day, i often have to roll over and switch to the 6 minutes of sports talk per hour on mike and mike....but listening to mully and hanley sure was nice for a change this morning

This is from Chad Ford at ESPN I must admit...Rose was 79th in the country in assists for a loaded team that played in a crap conference...not what you would expect from your franchise PG....also Hollinger's PER says Rose is like the 6th best prospect in this draft adn that Beasley is the best prospect to come out of college in the last 6 years.... I'm just pretty worried the Bulls are drafting Rose because of the fact that hes from chicago and because his position, and not for the actual player himself...also i think character is way overblown in talking about beasley...we will see though

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) And to think Cubs could have had him instead of Ryan Harvey. Of course, they could have had the best prospect in baseball, Wieters, if they wanted to. a few teams could have had markakis...he was actually considered an over draft when he was picked too...and alot of teams were pretty surprised that the orioles were drafting him as a position player and not a pitcher

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 03:47 AM) Four teams have made the playoffs after being outscored in the regular season, and one won the world series. Who were they? dbacks from last year were outscored
-
hits the foul pole first...deflects slightly and then hits whatever it was behind it and bounced back toward the field...HR no doubt in my mind
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Just start Russell against them tomorrow. His and Masset's sinkers really put the clamps on HR derby. russell looked very good today i thought.....much better stuff than i expected to see...stuff wise very similar to bobby howry actually, maybe even throws a bit harder...i was pleased with what i saw from him
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 04:45 PM) The explosion happened so quick that I don't think there was really anything you could do. It was just like a wham bam...9 runs up on the board type of thing. jose had nothing....masset should have been warming instead of boone and should have pitched to both lee and ramirez....everyone i was watching the game with thought the same thing
-
when that wind is blowing out...we absolutely have to bust their guys inside...lee, ramirez and edmonds all have classic hriniak approaches at the plate ....thankfully i think vazquez has the capability of getting inside on em...i also wish ozzie knew when to take a starting pitcher out and when to leave him in
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 21, 2008 -> 03:22 PM) Jose's last 4 starts before today. vs. Colorado, 6.2 innings, 3ER vs. Detroit, 6 IP, 6 ER vs. KC, 7IP, 1 ER Detroit was bad. That is it. and ozzie really screwed jose over in the detroit game by having him pitch to cabrera with first base open, then leaving him out to die in the 7th....im ok with jose, but the discouraging thing has been his stuff IMO...he hasnt looked good stuff wise for a few starts...and in addition ozzie leaves him in wayy toooo long...it was so obvious when it was 4-4 that we needed someone warming up at very least and ozzie is just stubborn and always looks for 6 from the starters almost no matter what
-
QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) Don't tell me what you hit, tell me when you hit. you mean like in the 9th inning of a tie game with 0 outs?
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) because it seems like all of the hits he gives up are bombs instead of singles in my opinion heres the thing with dotel....he has enough deception in his delivery hiding the ball for so long that alot of hitters dont pick him up, and he can mix it up enough to keep hitters guessing...which results in alot of Ks...but hes not throwing anything up there is dominating...his fastball sits low 90s and his slider really doesnt bite a ton...so hitters can tee off when they are able to pick him up
