  1. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 28, 2015 -> 12:30 AM) Fulmer seems to walk 2 or 3 every outing. He does. In college he is able to get away with it because his stuff is so good. Although I hate the term, you could describe him as somewhat effectively wild. Gets plenty of swings and misses outside the strike zone which he might not get at the next level. One thing with Fulmer in terms of his approach, he doesn't give in. you get the feeling he wants to strike every hitter out, and I think that ultimately leads to more bases on balls and fewer balls put into play
  2. Fulmer all sorts of nasty tonight. Breaking ball has for sure a plus pitch, arguably plus-plus. 8 ip 5 H 3 BB 12K against Tennessee so far. Swanson with a tough 0-4. His defense has been much better than I anticipated. For those who want to watch buehler tomorrow - game is on SEC network
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes · 20s 20 seconds ago Scout on Jeff Samardzija: "Stuff looks good actually. Heavy sinker, good cutter. Just left the ball right down middle in all three HR's." Threw the cutter early, which I didn't remember him throwing with the Cubs. Splitter did have good action on it. Fastball looked flat to me though
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 04:35 PM) Any velocity reports? No radar gun on the broadcast, but I'd guess 91-93 based on hitters
  5. poor command on a fastball with little movement. Also not throwing it by anyone. He looks terrible
  6. its like 10 years premature to compare sale to carlton, let alone rodon
  7. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 7, 2015 -> 03:15 AM) Vanderbilt beats #4 UCLA 6-0 Fulmer 6.1 IP, 3 H, 0R/0ER, 5 BB, 9 K 112 pitches only 55 strikes. Didn't see it but effectively wild. Curve was nasty per Twitter reports from a former mlb scout
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) Then there's only one thing left to do http://i.ytimg.com/vi/XDZ_lSJjgvk/maxresdefault.jpg
  9. remind me again why this is such a great move? The Bears are CLEARLY worse without Marshall than with him. And for what? 3.9 million in extra cap space (when cap space is a non issue and we have a paucity of internally drafted players that will be due bigger payouts in the near future ) and a 5th round pick? I realize they got something for him instead of nothing, but why did they have to cut him in the first place?
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 10:51 PM) I think it's second, or 1B, to beating GS at home. Just an awesome fourth quarter. So many guys needed to step up and E'twaun, Mirotic and MDJ all rose to the occasion tonight. Let's get healthy! Yeah that game was great too, especially given the Warriors home streak at the time. This team would be absolutely insane to let Thibs go
  11. most fun I've had watching a game all year
  12. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 09:44 PM) The dores beat up on Illinois State today. Fulmers line 6 IP, 2H, 0R 3 BB 11ks Did it mostly with the fastball. I didn't see a ton of it today, but the 3 innings I was able to watch closely fastball was 93-95 with tons of movement. Didn't have to use his secondary pitches as much - hung a few sliders.
  13. i just noticed this trick....if you are looking on an iPad, look at it straight on (90 degrees), looks gold and white. Now tilt the iPad so you you look at an acute angle that is approaching zero, clearly looks blue and black

    QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 22, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Theory of Everything, oh my god this movie so f***ing terrible. Well acted, I guess, but that's about it. Why do I give a s*** about Stephen Hawking's personal life again? I thought it would be about his work but that's pretty much only worth a vague few lines apparently for one of the most brilliant people to ever live. Watched it last night, and essentially could not agree more
  15. The weather in Nashville lead to the Vandy uic series to be cancelled, and instead Vandy is playing Indiana state in Tampa at the Rays spring training facility. As such, there is unfortunately no tv broadcast so I can't watch and give updates this week
  16. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 06:13 PM) College ball neophyte here, thinking about getting into it a bit to tide me over until Opening Day. Can someone explain the concept of "Friday pitchers" and "weekend rotations" to me? college baseball schedule has a 3 game series every weekend for each team (Friday night, Saturday, Sunday) - once conference play starts, all conference games are weekend series. During the week on random tuesdays or wednesdays there are often single stand alone games played (always a non-conference team - usually a team nearby to limit travel). Friday night pitcher is typically your Ace - your game 1 starter in each series. They typically start every friday night, and rarely pitch any other time. Same as the other weekend starters on their respective days. Occasionally a weekend starter will relieve in a mid week game. The midweek starters typically also will relieve on the weekends. Even the best pitching staffs usually have multiple guys they try out/rotate in and out of the midweek starter spot, and typically the sunday starter spot too.
  17. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 15, 2015 -> 10:43 AM) Great to see you posting around these parts again daa. This board sorely needs it. I still find that Pedro Alvarez avatar of yours great though. He was amazing in Vanderbilt. Thanks for the kind words. I've still been lurking, just posting less. The days of the chat room for the 9pm west coast start are probably over ( I'm guessing the chat room doesn't even still exist!) but wheni ve been deprived of baseball for 5+ months I will certainly still spend 10 hours watching (and posting)on that first college weekend. Iirc the avatar is from Pedro's fresh year. Work and other life obligations will likely limit my viewing in the coming months, but I'll do my best to at least keep the board informed on the potential VU guys we could draft with the top pick Btw: your avatar is also quite awesome....even tho my memories of peavy are somewhat disappointing, his comeback from that injury/surgery were unprecedented
  18. since he's projected to go near where the sox pick, I'll post my impressions from Swansons opening weekend. Offensively he had an excellent weekend - hit a ball to right center gap for 3b, had quick hands on a ball inside off the plate and kept it fair for a 2b off the LF wall, poked some singles through the right side, drew a couple walks. stole a base. Overall went 6/14. overall, I'm not exactly sure how his game projects to the next level. He hit tool is his strongest ability, and has some gap power, but I'm not sure it projects to big league HR power. Speed is good, but probably more in the 20 SB range. I think his true value is tied to his defense....and it was our first time seeing him at SS. It will take more time to judge his defense, but he made a critical error, made some shaky throws to first and made a easy play or two look more difficult than they should have been. It's opening weekend, so some of that is expected, but it was also on artificial surface, so the bounces were all true
  19. There's some decent discussion in the draft thread in the future sox part of the board. But I figured I'd make a thread here as well since the season just started. As I said in the other thread, look for an uptick in scoring with the new baseballs. It's desperately needed as the power has been wayyyy down since they changed the bats a few years ago
  20. also re: fulmer -yes he was the closer at the start of the year last year, but that's only cuz they already had two right handed first rounders in the weekend rotation ( beedee and buehler). It became obvious he was suited best as a starter at the college level. His slider is also a plus pitch and might grade out higher than his fastball, he was just spotty with it yesterday. That said, I do think that his command and lack of a solid changeup may ultimately make him a reliever in the pros. His arm action is so fast Id imagine it also will raise some durability issues.
  21. I'll do my best to post about the vandy games I am able to watch and any potentially high round draftable players (fulmer, buehler, Swanson, ferguson - a few others will be top round next year - stone, Reynolds). Great start for the top starters. Also bear in mind to that the college baseballs have changed this year. They lowered the stitches on the balls (similar to the pro ball), and it's expected to make a big impact in scoring. Breaking balls will be tougher to spin, and the ball will carry more. There were a few balls that were hit yesterday that seemed to carry a lot (specifically one by potential top 10 pick Dansby Swanson on a triple to the opposite field gap)
  22. fulmer with 5 IP 0 R 2 H 7 K...88 pitches Watched most of it. FB was popping - no radar gun that we could see but announcer said he was 94-95. That's about what it looked based on the hitters too. Slider was inconsistent - didn't throw if for a lot of strikes and he got away with a few hangers in the zone. Threw a change up more than last year - command wasn't great with it. Btw espn app will let you watch a ton of games this year. Walker buehler won't start this weekend due to soreness - so you won't see him. Tyler ferguson should pitch in the second half of DH today and projects as a second rounder if yoinwanna watch. So many good arms it's insane
  23. No reason to not see McDermott here in the 4th
  24. 84 cases of measles Since June is certainly sad and I'm glad it's getting media attention, and casting negative light in the insane antivaccers Now can the media please turn more attention to the fact that in 2011 (most recent year with data per the CDC) 12,000 people were diagnosed with cervical cancer and 4000 people died from it. theres a vaccine that prevents people from getting cancer (think about that for a minute) and we can't get children vaccinated because some insane morons think it makes their sons and daughters more promiscuous. Such a huge public health issue - think about how huge the cost is to screen women with Pap smears, follow up biopsies, colposcopies, treating the cancers etc.
  25. ballsy Thibs style win. Without your top 3 wing players in the toughest place to win in the nba
