  1. i thought wed get at least a run off of eaton, but this lineup is just god awful right now...... 7 automatic outs in it...the only two that aren't right now are iguchi, who is a singles hitter, and konerko who still hasnt shown power.... whatever happened to the days when AJ pierzynski was classified as a "tough out?" I mean its inexcusable that juan uribe, AJ piersynski, jermaine dye, crede when he was healthy and even konerko have gotten off with such little criticism on this board and by sox fans in general. Everyone turns blame to the coaches, but let me say this....to all of those "starters"...they should be embarassed by their play this year
  2. just got off the xbox and playstation and dye for delmon young evan longoria and jeff niemann worked!....get it done KW!
  3. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Michigan's pitcher, Putnam, had a no hitter through 8 2/3 innings. With 2 outs in the 9th, he gave up a single with a guy on 2nd. Oregon State is now winning 1-0. back when putnam was deciding where to go to school...his choice came down to the wire between michigan and vandy....he picked michigan last minute...man if we had been able to nab him.....he was the #3 rated recruit int he country and would have added to a vandy class that had already been ranked the #1 class int he nation
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:50 PM) agree completely. The only way I want a reliever is if it ends up being like a worst case scenario type of situation, which is what it would be with Billingsley. Meredith, Ring, and Linebrink just don't do it for me. i also agree....although i look at the entire situation and laugh....our bullpen is so bad but i basically dont want to trade any commodities for bullpen help (even our prospects i dont really wanna trade for linebrink or meredith)...i guess middle relievers are just so fickle that even you desperately need help there, you aren't willing to spend to get it
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) That's the thing, unless we get an offer for one of these players that is going to be better than getting 2 high draft picks, then you hang onto them, simple as that. And honestly I don't mind that, although you'll get the pissimists like quickman saying we'll waste the draft picks or something. yeah, the only question is whether they will all be type A free agents, i know the rules have changed under the new collective bargaining agreement....im positive buerhle would be, but he would bring the most in return in a trade (maybe something better than two draft picks)...i think dye and iguchi would be (especially since 2b is so weak) and i really doubt theyd yield that kind of return....
  6. since the draft was just this past weekend, i was wondering whether anyone thinks its better to let a few of these free agents just walk? i mean buerhle dye and iguchi will all probably be type A free agents and the sox would get 2 draft picks for each....i guess the downside to that is that it is playing for 09 and 10 rather than helping for 08, but i could certainly see the sox holding on to one or two of them even if they know they wont resign them just for the draft picks i know they are also more risky, but i guess my main point is that if we dont get a good deal for a guy like dye (which given his age and injury history, i dont think we will) or for gooch (who just isnt good enough to bring enough good prospects) a first round pick and a sandwich pick as compensation is pretty darn good if for instance we draft like we did in 2004 (fields and gio in 1st and sandwich)
  7. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 10, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Don't laugh at me... but WHY IN THE WORLD would the Dodgers trade Billingsley for anyone, especially Jermaine Dye? I was just watching some video of his starts last year and a few outings of his this year, and he has fantastic stuff. A GM would be brain dead to trade him. With that said, fi the Dodgers offered him straight up for Dye I'd except right there without a second thought. Call me crazy, but I don't think Colletti is even considering trading him for anything. nobody is laughing at you...i think you are exactly right....why trade your best yuong pitcher for 2 months of jermaine dye?
  8. betemit came up with atlanta as a SS so he can probably play 2b...i like him too but im not sure any of this is really worth it because i doubt LA is really willing to give him up....especially paired with their best young pitcher for a guy who is hitting under .230, is a FA next year, has a history of injuries and is turning 34 this offseason
  9. while KW certainly did a crappy job filling the pen this offseason, the two trades he was blasted for most are turning out to be pretty good....gio is looking like one of the best pitching prospects in the game, and floyd appears like he may be getting things figured out in AAA, i really think he can be a decent option as a 5 starter toward the end of this year into next year...
  10. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) If Garcia was still on this team, the supervolcano under Yellowstone Park would have erupted in May of 07, causing widespread destruction. In retrospect, it's better we traded him. yeah, people complained about the trade but gio is establishing himself as one of baseballs top pitching prospects, and anything we get from floyd is just bonus probably
  11. QUOTE(chisoxfan79 @ Jun 9, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) Maybe were playing for the first pick in next years draft
  12. this team has so many holes to fill next year.....i think the biggest issues are SS and 2b...simply because there is 0 organizational depth there...at least in the OF we can plug in sweeney or anderson...leadoff is important but i also think we need another big bat in the lineup...thome could be bought out at the end of next year with his age and if dye is gone next year we have to add punch... looking at 08 there are a few locks as follows C: pierzynski 1b: Konerko DH: Thome (but injury and age concerns...clearly not a long term option here) Pathetically thats it The quesiton marks.... 2b: I guess iguchi would be the easiest to resign, but if hes not...nothing really in the organization to replace him...doubt getz is 1.) ready and 2.) actually a major league calibur player... SS: Uribe needs to go...for some reason he gets off the easiest of anyone on the sox...other guys get roasted more than he does, but hes been the worst for the longest....his defense simply doesnt makeup for his lack of O anymore 3b: who knows what will happen with crede...If hes not here it will most certainly be fields, which is ok with me....just fields can't be counted on to be a 5 or 6 hitter his first year in the league... LF: who knows...are we ready to count on sweeney? pods could be brought back, but i would think we have had enough of him with his injuries and lack of production...maybe fields here if crede stays CF: my guess is we pick up erstads option...which is far from an ideal solution...given his injury history and lack of on base ability and power hes relatively worthless, but since he was hitting .260 on a team where everyone else hit .200 he at least appeared somewhat good....anderson could be here, but theres an awful lot of young guys on the roster already RF: complete toss up...if dye is gone, which he prolly will be given the fact that hes a year away from a MVP season and will be 34 next year...who is here? sweeney and anderson can both play right, but right now we have them penciled in at other spots SP: 4 spots filled...danks contreras vaz and garland is actually fairly decent...look for a youngster to fill that 5th spot) RP: HAHAHAHA it looks bleak, especially if KW takes his "im not gonna spend big money on free agents" attitude this offseason.... I wouldnt mind seeing buerhle dye and iguchi held on to simpyl because we get 2 first round picks for each if they walk (iguchi might not be type A, not sure) but i think we have to look to trade them for more immediate help (ie prospects in AAA) simply because we are gonna need the help badly next year
  13. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 10:13 PM) Come on Fathom, this season is 110 percent on our embarassment of a general manager. Ozzie isn't a very good manager, but there is absolutely nothing he can do about this joke of a ballclub. And it's a bit of a "STRETCH!" to use the Ozzie likes speed so the roster is part his fault argument. The GM holds all checks and balances on his manager in terms of the roster, and this roster has no speed anyways. im just not sure any of this is ozzies fault really....i mean the lineup has a career bench player (mack) a career AAAA player (terrero), a light hitting CF who will never be an impact player and will be a career minor leaguer (owens) and a hopeful big leaguer in fields (who still could be good, but getting his first real look at the majors).....add into that that juan uribe has and had last year an obp under .290, iguchi is hitting .240 with 3 Hr (which is basically worthless) and konerko is batting .230 and hasn't had a meaningful hit i can remember all year.....so basically we are left with thome who is good and an average pierzynski at best (.250 8 HR is still about the minimum you can tolerate with him)....... add to that the fact that every guy not named jenks seems to give up at least 1 run per inning pitched in the pen... i mean ozzie can only do so much on greg walker, i haven't bashed him too much because the lift and pull approach i believe is more a product of the players that we have as opposed to walker himself, but its to the point where he has to be accountable for the lack of production...i mean in any normal job you can try hard or whatever and people can say yo uare still a good hitting coach, but if you dont produce you get fired...thats just how it is...and in a league where there is so much money on the table you must produce, and he simply hasnt...its time for him to go
  14. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) Sox just took Logan Johnson, 2B from Louisville. He crowds the plate like none other, got hit his first 3 plate appearances in the regional opener against Miami. The crowd had some fun with him as his back foot was definitely over the line, it was pretty funny actually. He didn't seem that great though. wow maybe the 30 HBP isnt a mistake

  16. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jun 8, 2007 -> 12:28 PM) hello all, i'm new to this board but clearly not a bandwagoner (sox have lost 10 of 12). what's the deal with all of these rounds? will all of these players make it to chicago's farm system? how likely is it that a team gets an actual MLB talent in the later rounds? you can find diamonds in the rough, buerhle wasnt drafted til the 38th and i think mccarthy went in the 18th round..... a good portion will spend at least some time in rookie ball, some will opt to go to college or stay an extra year, etc.
  17. paiml stinks, but its the 15th round i guess
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 05:47 PM) This is fantastic coverage on mlb.com right now with the live video. the guys that do mlb radio and the other stuff on mlb.com...mayo, ed randall, etc. are really good....they are way better than anything on espn
  19. anyone know if they will broadcast the rest of the draft on mlb.com....like can we listen to the conf. call like we were able to before this year?
  20. QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) Shannon Stewart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 10 bucks says schilling blasts lugo and says he never should have been facing stewart...god i hate schilling so much
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) He's sure worked wonders with the offspeed, or should I say lack of, pitches of Thornton and Cotts. cooper got to thornton by the time he was 28, developing pitches at the minor leagues isn't on cooper, its on the minor league coaches .....so yeah youre right cotts never had an offspeed pitch maybe that the guys in the minors fault maybe not, but cooper isnt really responsible for that either
  22. im getting a few thoughts out there here...people b**** about broadway being a 1st rounder and that hes not gonna be a top of the rotation guy...well its looking more and more like he will be a solid big leaguer (albeit a 4th or 5th starter) but c onsidering we got him at pick what, 20? thats not bad....if every first rounder turned into a #3 hitter or a #1 starter, there would be 30 new studs every year in the majors...right now broadway has a 3.20 ERA at AAA, and is still relatively young...no he doesnt' throw hard, but if he can be a #4 or 5 starter for this team for a few years, tahts a successful draft, and i think people around here dont realize that second...has anyone mentioned poreda's command? 18 BB in 100 IP this year 28 BB in 112 last year. thats pretty outstanding for a guy who throws 96 from the left side....which i believe is the reason the A's wanted him...HR rate is also very solid, which probably suggests hes a GB pitcher. so basically the only reason people are bashing this pick is because we didnt get porcello.....well guess what...27 other teams didnt draft him either, why? not because they dont think hes good, but because they think that dollar for dollar there were better picks out there. the only thing worriesome abotu poreda is his lack of Ks, but given the fact that his other peripherals are very good, ill be willing to bet that if he can develop his secondary stuff better (which clearly KW and co. are counting on) that he will pick up the Ks as he moves along
  23. from everything i have read i dont mind the scouting report, but i hate that K rate...its interesting to note that his fastball has that much movement...sox have said they loved danks and gio because lefties with movement play in well at the Cell....its also interesting to see that the A's would have picked him had we not gotten him....makes me think we did something right...ill bet this guy has a nice GB ratio...anyone have #s on that?
  24. FWIW when crede avoided arbitration i know KW said that although he hated workign with boras, it was something that could be done....as long as they were creative and rick hahn was the one negotiating...that said i personally believe taht KW wouldnt talk with boras when we were a middle of the road payroll team but now that we can spend some $$ maybe that will change a bit...with no pick til 89 i think we prolly could try to nab porcello, but i doubt it
