QUOTE(daa84 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 02:09 PM) tim kurkijian will be on espn news sometime between 2-2:30 talking about teh twins and sox, ill let you know what he says....tho he is normally an idiot, maybe people still wanna know what hes gotta say Said he likes the twins alot, twins will win the division they have the best starting pitching, and good young core (mauer and morneau) White Sox: says he talked to someone who he said thinks the sox will win the division. Hes not sure about the defense and teh starting pitching, but he thinks they need to prove alot of things. mentions the homers at the cell, and the fact that the sox got away from a power team. he doesnt think the sox are as good defensively as they were last year. so essentially, it was a regurgitation of all the info that the rest of the national media is saying

QUOTE(diehard chisox 1427 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Why would Widger make the team over Burke? Bill im not singling you out or anything, im just simply saying that many people on this board and on others are extremely high on jaime burke for reasons i don't understand. hes 33 years old, and he hasnt played major league ball ever essentialy. Yes, he played well in his time in the majors, but the fact of the matter is that he has 0 power, 0 speed. Hes an average defensive catcher who got lucky in his time with teh big league club. Im not saying that widger is that much better of an option than burke, but i think he is a bit more proven and probably will hit better on a consistent basis, and brings more experience to the team.

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) In preparation for opening day, I went and ordered a Buerhle jersey to be worn on opening day. Also, hooked up the girlfriend with a Paulie Konerko. Also, bought a Sox hat for a Cubs fan I am taking to the game. He is fed up with his team, so we're trying to convert him, via a Club Level Opening Day Game. Hopefully I can bring this lost Jedi back from the darkside. your girlfriend hooked up with PK?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 01:31 PM) yeah, that article is definately brutal...but i also think alot of sox fans need to realize that this team made alot of controversial and unpopular moves and that while personally i am as big of a sox fan as any other, i think alot of things need to fall teh right way in order for the sox to take the division. everyone on this website gets offended when anyone says that teh sox will finish anything but 1st. i personally think 71 wins is absurd, but everyone needs to stop getting so offended if someone predicts the sox to finish 2nd.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 01:09 PM) I thought it was a top fifty list? yeah it was top 50, and I can see why Bmac wasnt included assuming the list was made a month or so ago. i mean baseball america had both sweeney and anderson ahead of bmac too, so i think its understandable. It also seems to me that sabermetric guys like dayn perry, who rated mccarthy 14 overall, seem to rank mccarthy higher than scouts who arent blown away by mccarthys overall stuff. while mlb.com didnt pick mccarthy in the top 50, he has gotten his name mentioned plenty lately and is gettin alot of national pub. ie gammons perry baseball prospectus crasnick
-
QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Mar 25, 2005 -> 10:41 AM) It will still be interesting to see where McCarthy lands on the list. His stock has definitely risen. brian anderson cracks in at 38, and sweeney in surprisingly higher at 31. they seemed real high on sweeney sayin that they "guarantee he will be in the sox OF or close by next year"

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) Pos-AS 04: MIN 45W, 30L Pos-AS 04: CHI 37W, 41L Pos-AS 04: CLE 38W, 37L Pos-AS 04: DET 30W, 45L That makes every one chasing MIN a long shot, but I don't think it warrants all the CLE joy these analysts are spouting. They were at FULL STRENGTH & managed 1 more win than us the 2nd 1/2. We were anything but full strength. In my opinion the Twins have more reason to look forward to Mays in their rotation than the Tribe does with Milwood. Milwood was healthy & got hit hard at home & in some places on the road. Why should I believe he's going to return to form in 05 when he's clearly pitching in a tougher hitting league? It's been a tougher hitting league for about 5 yrs now. There's no reason to believe that Milwood is going to be a 15 gm winner for the Tribe. For Min, a healthy J Mays is capable of 15 wins. Looking at the CLE ST numbers, Boone isn't lighting it up. His 333A looks ok, but he only has 13TB, & 6RBI. Jeff Liefer has 20TB, & 8RBI. K Millwood 11.25ERA, 4.0IP. Contreras & Garland look better. Why isn't he pitching more? IMHO, Chicago White Sox 5-2, Cleveland Indians 5-1. herm schneider said buehrle felt 100% better today than he did yesterday and that there might be a fracture in the 4th toe, but down in the foot portion, not at the toe. he sounded better than what i was assuming, but im still guessin hell be out for a while

QUOTE(CubKilla @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 12:01 PM) To those that feel bringing the hottest pitcher the Sox have this ST up to start as a number 5 until MB's healed as an idea that's completely ludicrous, who else would you rather have in his spot if NOT McCarthy? Cotts? Adkins? Barring a trade (which won't happen), McCarthy is the way to go at this point. i just got an email from Jerry Crasnick of espn...heres what i aksed and his response Jerry, I emailed you about Brandon McCarthy last year, and you said he > was legit. He has been tearing up spring training, and with Mark Buerhle > breaking his foot and out a month, McCarthy looks like he will get his shot. > What can us White Sox fans hope for? Dan, I was out there for his first spring training start a couple of weeks ago, and everybody was raving about him then. Still, he's just a kid, and it's a lot to ask for him to replace Buerhle and light it up right away. I'm sure they'll try to take the pressure off him as much as they can. Thanks for the note, Jerry

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) Nothing scares me more than foolishly rushing a prospect through the system. History shows that is NOT the way to go. Sure, there are exceptions, there always are. But, when you are sitting on a prospect with as much talent as McCarthy, it scares the hell out of me to rush him to the show. Make no mistake about it, McCarthy is the best option. However, that doesn't mean it shouldn't scare the hell out of me. For once, I'd love to see a Sox minor league pitcher pan-out. Who was the last one, Buehrle? We've had some rotten luck. I'd hate to F this up. EDIT: Truth is, we have a lot of people looking at this situtation through McCarthy colored glasses. In reality, we have our best pitching prospect at 20 years of age being rushed. That is never a good thing, no matter how prosiming he looks. the thing about mccarthy is that he is more like buerhle, who also made his debut at 21. he has the makeup to pitch in the bigs, and while no, ive never talked to him myself or anything that make up is there. It has been in scouting reports far before all the mainstream reporters picked up on this kid, so im not just regurgitating info outa the trib. last year, ozzie said the best pitcher outa spring would make the 5th spot. now that we have a spot open, thats what is gonna happen. besides, oakland brought up zito and mulder when they were young and they were successful, and they are doing thesame thing again. I understand there are countless expamples of young pitchers failing when brought up, but i think this kid is ready. go back and look at the mlbtv archives and watch the curveballs he gets a few of the angels lokoing at. there are filthy. in my opinion this kid has what it takes and its worth a shot at seeing what he can do now.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 21, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I know, I know, it happens. It's just that, Buehrle is our horse. It's going to take awhile to get over this one. I'm crestfallen. yeah man, this definately blows. at least if tehre is a posistive, its that hes not experiencing arm problems like teh cubs pitchers. this shouldnt be a recurring problem. Anyone know if its his left foor or right? hopefully its not his left drive foot.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 04:40 PM) Some pitcher named Van Buren in for the Cubs. Sox batter (didn't catch his name) pops out. 1 out. Brooks Boyer in the booth with Hawk and D.J. Josh Fields walks. 1 out. Ross Gload up to bat. Gload grounds out, AGAIN. Fields to 2B. Borchard up to bat. 2 outs. holy hell borchard went wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back

QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) El Duque looked his worst that inning...floating up Breakin balls...they were rolling instead of breaking and they just tore him up...hopefully he gets stronger than that. yeah he looked bad, but dont forget this is a tough place to pitch for offspeed pitchers.....coors-lite

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Uribe is a career .266 hitter with a .307 OBP. And, all of this coming while playing in two of the best hitting parks in all of baseball. Sure thing, huh? Certainly not, IMHO. That said, I'm not going to stick a label on neither Harris nor Uribe yet. Both of them have uribe is younger than harris for starters. two, he is way way way more projectable than harris is offensively. Harris's ceiling would probably turn him into a dave roberts type player. uribe probably will hit upper 20s to 30 homers in his prime and might even touch .300 during that stretch. uribe also plays 3 positions on the infield. harris plays second and an average center field, on a team that already has 4-5 guys who can play center (rowand pods timo carl and borch). sure looking at career numbers for uribe is fine, but if you are gonna do that, than dont just look at willies numbers from last year, but his as a whole as well.

not sure if this was posted already...but its from chisox.com sounds like the brewers are interested. A rumor put forth by a Chicago radio station that the Brewers had interest in Willie Harris was news to Harris himself when he was informed on Thursday. "I haven't heard it," Harris said. "That right there motivated me a little more. I didn't know that." With the signing of Tadahito Iguchi and left-handed hitters Ross Gload and Timo Perez already in reserve, Harris could have to deal with trade rumors during much of Spring Training. Guillen reiterated Thursday that he likes Harris' attitude, and that he's still part of the 25-man plans. But he didn't issue a blanket guarantee for the young second baseman to stay in Chicago. "Right now, we have room for him and we are counting on him," Guillen said of Harris. "That's really up to Kenny. Kenny knows what we need and will do the best he can to get this team better." "I have to concentrate on what I do here," Harris added. "I can't let trade talk distract me." One Brewers' scout, when asked if he was at Thursday's game to watch Harris, smiled and said, "Willie Harris? I'm not sure I know who he is."

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) His technique is terrible...wrapping his hand around the bat, bat head down i agree, the bat head must stay up, otherwise he is gonna pop alot of bunts up *note* see willie harris. teh hand wrapped isnt a huge deal in the majors, most guys that are at this level wont catch a ball off their hands, thats more of a tip for kids in little league and high school

QUOTE(soxhawks @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) man if he still caught he'd be an all star every year, he might even be the best offensive catcher in the game i agree that pauly would be a plus offensive catcher, but there is no way to tell what his offensive numbers would be if he still caught. the whole thing with catchers is that it is taxing on the body and you wear down easily. in addition, catchers focus on defense first, and dont spend as much time in the cage. i dont doubt pauly woudl be a very good offensive catcher, but he would probably not put up the same numbers that he does now

QUOTE(ottawa_sox @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) I had something strange happen. I lost the feed a couple of times because I was foolng around with REAL PLAYER (making a CD) and MLB.com Gameday Audio wouldn't let me log back in. It gives me the following message: Your account has been logged in too many times. Please try again later. I'm going to have to follow this thread for the ending I guess. Not that that is a bad thing. fields nice barehanded play to get hairston to end inning

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 03:54 PM) I just got home 15 minutes ago. I see Buehrle, Honel, Walker, and Jenks pitched. I know Jenks gave up that homer, but how did Buehrle and Honel look? Buehrle gave up two runs, both unearned -- how did it sound like he did? Looks like Honel did well, which is good. Ozuna having a damn nice day, Owens-Young look like they did alright today too. How about Sweeney/Anderson -- how are they doing today? I'm pretty pleased by Harris' day, seems as if he had a good day out on the field, advanced a runner, drew a walk, but was CS -- which, if you want to be aggressive, is gonna happen. Jim -- any comments on any of the guys above? buerhle got touched a bit with 5 hits 2 walks, but got out of a bases loaded with 2 outs jam. most hte damage off buerhle came with 2 outs. Honel sounded like he did pretty well, struckout clayton i think it was on 3 straight pitches tehn walked kata on 4 straight, but he got a strike out to end the inning too. anderson just got in, got robbed of a bunt single. i dont think sweeney has been in
