Can't carry M-Jeff's cigar-cutter. His 2 showings in Detroit came as no suprise.

If Carlos continues, he will be the biggest thing

Caballo generates more batspeed than Castillo. Ichiro will be the one with a 35+ game hitting streak. And Chone Figgins. Fast and not selective. Just enough hand-eye coordination. -
Uribe has been better than Soriano this season, and by the time ASB rolls around, Texas should be under .500.
-
It was the game against Toronto at Comiskey that was rained out, but Albert hit a HR and it counted.
-
When was the last time a point flew right over your head and you made a stupid reply? I mean, not counting the above. You think it's easier to hit a 95 fastball or throw a 2-0 breaking ball than it is to f***NIG CATCH A f***ING POP UP OR GET A GOOD READ ON A SOFT LINER THAT SEEMINGLY HANGS FOREVER???!! Moron.
-
I think it's pretty pathetic that Vlad wasn't given a (2-run) error on a routine pop-fly in the 7th. There is such a low standard for fielding it's not even funny. A fielder can lose the ball in the lights with bases loaded and not get an error because, you see, fielding is.just.so.damn.hard....... I'd love to see a batter strike out (or a pitcher give up a HR on a mistake pitch or a baserunner get caught stealing, etc) and then asking the official scorer not to count the AB because he lost the ball in the background or was simply too late to react....... :headshake

I have no idea why you ask variations on this question ad infinitum, but right now it's pretty irrelevant. In October, after Sox miss the playoffs by 2 games (I am being generous here and assuming Colon would have won 3 more games than Schoenweissin 2004) and we know for sure that JR never intended to spend the extra 10 Mill, you can ask away. Not now.
-
He missed a walk-off 3-run shot off Hawkins as well. If the pitch is 93 mph instead of 95, that ball is a double/HR instead of a towering FO.
-
Not a chance. He's been a bad pitcher this season - gave up a ton of other people's runs and had a hand in quite a few Sox losses. He'd literally have to go on a 20 inning scoreless streak to edge out Keith Foulke - Gordon and Rivera are shoe-ins.
-
Unless Valentin is over 900 OPS (and with his stupid approach, he will never be), he won't have a chance. Carlos Gullen should be AL's starting SS. Michael Young should be the reserve. But as usual, Nomar will start, with Tejada backing him up.
-
The last 3-4 years, this guy has been a living proof that OBP while very nice isn't everthing - walks don't drive in runs. Hits an oppositte field gap 2-run jack off Farnsworth to tie the game at 4.
-
Lee is not going anywhere. Guillen, Matsui, Lawton, Manny are all ahead of him.
-
What the f*** are you talking about "hoping Dodgers sign him"??? The man LEADS AL IN OPS and is one of the few players this sorry franchise has had that's worth writing about or remembering...... :headshake
-
Or........ Colon replaced Scott Schoeneweiss, which means Sox would be 2 1/2 games out of 1st right about now, and NO money to add at the ASB break. After his lights out bullpen sessions in 2003, Danny Wright was gonna be our league minimum-making 5th starter. Show was to be the odd man out.
-
Freddy Garcia is the next year's Colon/Ponson. Giving him 4/40 will be REEEEALLY stupid. Let the Yankees have him. BTW.......I must say you've taken verbal abuse from the little b**** CW406 yesterday a little better than I would have. Good on you.
-
Look I can forgive Colon for being worthless because his struggles entertain me, but I just realized he got out-dueled by Glendom f***ing Rusch, handing the Cubs a win - and if there is one thing that is good for the Sox, it's Cubs losing, losing, losong, losing, losing, losing, losing and losing some more....And they are above .500. No good POS scumbag deserves all the injuries that are coming his way in the next 3 years for all care. :fyou :puke

Fine, substitute those 3 clowns with Glavine and Finley or some similar variation -- as long as it totals 10-12 Mill. The point, as they say, still stands. -

Well then let's get Derek Jeter and put him at 3B. He will also move us closer to the Series than Crede would. That he makes almost 19 Mill a year shouldn't matter. Once again, 12 Mill saved went to Buerhle, Thomas, Garland, Marte, Loaiza and Shoeneweiss' raises in 2004. And it gave the Sox 2 draft picks - the kind of picks Sox used to get Sweeney and Reed, two future All-Stars. And it spared us the sight of a lazy, apathetic and probably injured Bartolo Colon. Not offering Everett and Alomar arbitration, if anything else, gives the Sox financial flexibility to pay for Garcia, Guardado AND Beltran at the ASB and thusly become a legitimate WS contender. -
Absolutely. JR is a liar and is a lousy sports owner, but can we get past that and enjoy the Sox and hope they pull a 2002 Angels? I've ranted and raved against JR and lower expectations in general plenty, and was told I am not a real Sox fan. But reality says that only 1 team out of 30 wins the Series. Learn to crawl before walking - make it to ALCS, get your fans excited, raise the payroll and build from there. And how do you propose we as fans " not accept" lack of WSC? Boycott? No way. Because only the Yankees can write blank checks. They are "idolized" because their farm system and GM, two most essential components, have been examplary in the lasy few years. Their problem is that their FANS and their OWNER, the other half of the equation, pretty much suck. Last year A's got screwed by the umps and bad luck - otherwise it could be them and not Marlins hoisting the trophy.

And, pray tell, what's wrong with (righteous) anger - or ideological bitterness for that matter?

Do you honestly think that Magglio's intristic worth is 70-75 Mill over 5 years straight up? Do you realize that Magglio got signed a 3 year/30 Mill deal in 2001, back when a) He was a 27yo player with a HOF talent - he ran better than he does now, he had more range, a stronger arm and people seriously thought he would put up monsterous, Sammy Sosa numbers at the plate. Sox didn't know if Tomas was even gonna fully recover from the tricept tear, and seriously thought Magglio was the New Frank. b..) The market was rewarding players like Mondesi and Appier with 12-15 Mill a year contracts, so paying 10 Mill per for rising star Magglio was indeed a bargain. But after 2003-2004 seasons, it's clear: a) Magglio is not capable of super-star production. He's an all-star, but not a HOF'er. The reason why Beltran, Tejada, Chavez, Guerrero are getting 11-14 Mill per is that teams feel they're still young enough to improve. Whereas, 30+ yo Magglio has likely reached his plateu. He may end up being a late-late-late-late bloomer, but odds say it's not likely. b..) Market has changed. Boston is trying to get rid of Manny who makes 20 Mill whereas 4 years ago, they thought he was a bargain at that price. If Magglio only got 10 Mill per during the height of salary inflation in 2001, what makes him think he is worth 14-15 NOW? c) Now they're saying his knee injury might be chronic. Even if it's not, I expect Magglio to play defense and run bases conservatively as to limit the risk of re-injury. As he gets older, he will become more one-dimensional - look at Sosa and Canseco and the likes. Is his hitting worth it alone? d) If he is so damn popular, then how he doesn't pack the USCF and doesn't sell jerseys like Sammy Sosa or Big Mac could in their prime? So yeah, when it comes to gaudy 75/5 figures, I'd rather have a much younger platoon of Jeremy Reed/Joe Borchard/Rowand in RF for league minimum for many years to come. Magglio's 14+ Mill could be spent elsewhere. PS....For the record, I do NOT blame Magglio for wanting to move on to bigger and better things. -

Look, you've run this arguement into the ground. I get it, harsh business reality that governs these matters doesn't concern you in the least - maybe that's the way it should be, I wouldn't know. I personally rather like having Willie Harris for 300 K than Ray "walking DL" Durham at 7 Mill. Same for the Rowand-Reed platoon in CF for 600 K than Carlos Beltran for 17 Mill. And so forth. But I DO have certain conditions: money saved on the aformentioned bargains have to go toward a playoffs caliber 1-2-3 pitching and 3-4-5 hitting and a good set-up man and closer. Currently Sox do not have a #1 starter, the pitcher who would slide Buerhle-Loaiza-Garland-Show into more approprioate 2-3-4-5 spots. Sox get Garcia/Glavine, Maggs gets healthy and Sox run away with the division. -

A) The season does NOT end today. Nor would the Sox go home - Twins are still a game behind in the loss column. B..) Colon's money went toward Lee's, Frank's, Garland's, Show's, Marte's and Buerhe's raise this year. It wasn't pocketed by JR. C) Another example: Sox finished the 1999 season 20+ games behind the Indians. Would Belle, Ventura, Brown, Unit and 25 extra wins at $40,000,000 Mill been worth it to the 1.1 Mill fans who attended? I would say 'yes'.
