Disheartening Article: Magglios GAWN in 05.
BrandoFan replied to Flash Tizzle's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Frank is making 6 Mill. Bargain. Magglio is making 14 Mill. Not a bargain. What I "would have done" is irrelevant. I explained to you once that Magglio signed a 3/30 deal coming off 2001 season when the payroll was 66 Mill and Sox seriously thought in 2002 they were gonna take off and Magglio was gonna explode like Sosa did and become a HOF'er and all would be happy with the world.... -
Saving the environment is overrated and only worth it if the cost basis is within reason.

Buerhle is a #2. Not an ace.

Belle and Thomas made a combined 21 Mill in 1998. Payroll was around 45. How did that work out? Keep in mind, 1997 Marlins had a similar payroll and yet won the World Series. They spent wisely. Of course. That's why I always qualify with ".....to a team like the Sox" when talking about a player's worth or a team's roster needs. Yankees could pay A-Rod 50 Mill a year, while Sox would be hard-pressed to pay 15 right now. -
I liked the Kool-aid one better.

Brewers will lose 90 games. Cardinals have proven they can't beat the New Cubs in the last 2 years. Given injuries to Sosa, Wood and Prior, Astros would have been up by 10-12 games if they were SERIOUS about winning. They are losers until proven otherwise, even Oswalt is getting shelled lately. Phillies are even bigger losers and Padres/Dodgers/Giants scare noone. The only hope is that Astros and Cards get on an unbelievable streak and keep the Cubs out of the playoffs. Amen.

With a 300 Mill payroll, you could pay Magglio 200 Mill a year and still have 100 Mill left on other needs. With a 30 Mill payroll, anything more than 6-7 Mill for his services, is crazy. Duh. -
Sox have no ace. Sox have only 2 LH bats that are worth a damn, and 1 of them is not proven. If neither are solved, it will not matter if our #3 reliever is Urbina or Politte.

Don't be jellas, there's plenty of Corg glory for us all to bask in. -
What I want to know is....Why aren't Astros 10-12 games up on the Cubs by now? They absolutely must sweep at home to gain any kind of momentum. Zambrano felt soreness the other day. How about it Mark, isn't it about time you felt agonizing pain in the ol' rotator cuff? Hope Wood isn't back this year.

For Jason Schmidt? Sure. For Beltran? If it's one for one, maybe. But they'd want Olivo, too. For Finley? No way. He is almost 40 and could be had for Josh Rupe-type prospects.

1. Your "credentials" are irrelevant. Stop pretending that you're the only one who's ever had to catch a pop up - or deal with the sun, for that matter. 2. If they started holding fielders responsible for the ball dropping in their zone regardless of the "excuses", you'd see how quickly those plays would start getting made all of the sudden. No more lazy drifting or showboating. No more shades up on a sunny day. Or playing it safe, for that matter. 3. Wind, lights, sun, roof, background, bad jump, bad route, bad hop, bad luck, bad decision, etc......doesn't matter. If the ball of reasonable trajectory/velocity was supposed to be caught/fielded in the reasonable zone and it wasn't - ERROR. Subjective? Sure - so is the strike-zone on any given day. Hitters and pitchers have an EXTREMELY small margin of error, and same high standard should be applied to fielding.

Activist judges and judgettes are my favorite peeps.

Look, Sox need an ace pitcher if they want to have a prayer against Red Sox or the Yankees in ALDS. Until that need is alleviated, there shouldn't even be talk about closers and such. 1. Get Glavine/Garcia 2. Get Finley/Beltran Then, if any money is left.....If Shingo-Marte combo is our biggest worry, then start the WS parade now.
-
Allan Baird will get fired if he gives Beltran away. Every contending team is gunning for him. Olivo + Crede should do it now that Beltran has cooled off and banged his knee. The problem is, Olivo should untouchable. Ditto for Crede. Sox are in no position to be giving up the future for an overrated position player when they have Judy as a #3!
-
Don't want Randa. f*** the Joker. And Sox already have a #5 in Schoenweiss - we need a #1. Angel Berroa is signed through 2006. I wouldn't mind having him just in case Crede busts out and Uribe is forced to play 3B. He is struggling now, so Royals might give him up.
-
How's Beltin' Beltran's knee doing? With that and his dropping numbers, I don't want to overpay.

What's with CW being bashed by the petty, the soul-less and the retarded (ss2k4 notwithstanding) lately? Not cool. I guess internet friendships always have an inspiration date, don't they? Dig-a-ling-ling.
