The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Wow AirScott I'm starting to think that you'll start a Lilly fanclub in addition to your 'Too many fanclubs' fanclub. I guess if we did pick him up in a trade it wouldn't be the worst thing but it just isn't a sexy trade for me. I guess my aspirations for this year are too high. I want to go for the jugular and leave everyone in the dust. first and foremost...that's not a bad idea. I'd have to find a few more members before I do, though. anyhoo, I'm glad you see it my way, because I am hoping KW goes out and picks up a huge bat and a bonafide closer before July 31. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:10 PM) I would try to get a guy like Baez from Tampa or Guardado from Seattle. Chavez would be a nice addition but I don't see Crede getting traded this year. well, a closer would be nice, but Tampa's GM doesn't trade much and it would take a lot to get Baez (who's been pitching well, for the most part) from Tampa without Lou Piniella suffering a stroke. I'd like to see KW get Guardado, but I'm holding out for Houston to lose enough from here through July 30th so they might think about trading Lidge. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) If Toronto wants to rebuild why would they get rid of a guy that they are paying little for? Especially if he's such a solid pitcher. I just don't see this as a very appealing trade possibility. Just another guy that we hope can get it done. I'd rather go for a guy that more than likely will get it done. But that's just me. KW has done a great job putting this team together. I trust that he will make the right move(s) to ensure we field a champion calibre team for the stretch. we'd only be hoping for him to get a small job done. give El Duque an extra day off by starting in his place. come in a pitch 3 or 4 innings of a game with a 5 run differential. Lilly has never been a mainstay on any team, so a rebuilding team (or any team) would be mostly indifferent to trading him. and $3.1 million isn't exactly the league minimum, either. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Why would Toronto even want to get rid of Lilly? He isn't making a whole lot of money. It would make little sense. And talk about the least exciting move KW can make. I know there are no sure things but the one sure thing is this guy won't get any fans excited. Why not get someone that strikes fear in the opponents clubhouse? Lets pick up Robbie Alomar again while we're at it. every move doesn't have to be a blockbuster. Lilly would just be a small piece of the puzzle, and just because he isn't making a bunch of money doesn't mean a guy won't be traded. it's not like he's making the minimum and on pace to win 15 games. -
QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) As a result, we saw them being too eager and pressing on offense. It seemed like the later the game went, the worse we looked at the plate... in terms of pitch selection. This is a sign of folding under pressure. very true. but when it's 2-0, and there's a runner on, it's only natural for guys like Thomas and Konerko to try to tie it up with one swing. you can't be too hard on them, trying to do what they do best at a time like that, but during a lot of our comebacks the guys have refrained from trying to do just that. in a game like this against the Cubs' pen it would have served better to try to string together a couple hits. but oh well, move on to the Tigers on Tuesday.

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) It's also retarded to assume a player will automatically return to his norm throughout the course of a season (there are always variations, whether from injury or a number of other reasons). So regardless of what you may think of Lilly going forward, at this point he's no better than an inexperienced McCarthy or El Duque missing an arm. What's the point of making a move and HOPING that it may work out? Wouldn't you want a sure thing? Lilly would come in and be a spot-starter/long relief guy, pitching when El Duque needs another days rest and when a starter is forced to leave before the 5th or 6th. B-Mac doesn't look ready, so Lilly is a sure enough thing. it's not like we're asking him to come in and hope he returns to All-Star form to save our rotation or anything. ONE LAST POINT: another thing, it is a little far-fetched to excpet to be able to pick up a sure thing. yeah, it would be nice to be able to trade for Roy Halladay and send El Duque to a spot-starter/long reliever's role, but, honestly, I just don't see that happening. -

VAfan, did you happen to catch any of last year's playoffs? Lidge would come in and nail the game down in the 7th inning. he's given up a few more runs and hits than he normally would, but he's struck out 52 in 33 innings. put him on a winning team (as he was last year), and he won't let you down. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 26, 2005 -> 05:52 PM) We do need bullpen help but because of this game...? I knew I said that wrong. we do need bullpen help, but this game didn't show it. I just left it because nobody said anything in this thread for too long, so I left my computer.
-
Prior, when healthy, is one of the best pitchers in MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL. this games just goes to show that KW needs to look for some bullpen help and a quality bat.
-
^^^exactly what my point was on the previous page.
-
anyone notice that CSN is about 1 second behind WGN?
-
it's not that Dusty gets more grief than Ozzie, it's pretty equal. the thing is that Ozzie doesn't give a s*** what anyone thinks, he just says whatever he thinks and whatever happens happens.
-
wait a second...I didn't even think when I was typing that, but it says here that Prior's expected to make his return for the finale of the series.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 10:24 PM) What ARE the pitching matchups for all 3 games???? Game 1: Mitre vs. Garcia Game 2: Maddux vs. Contreras Game 3: Prior vs. Garland

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 11:06 PM) It wasn't really a compliment. They did say we'd have the best record in the AL when it's all said and done, but they compared us to the 2001 Mariners. They both said we have no playoff experience, like them, and that will hurt us. I think they're both saying we'll go nowhere in the playoffs, but I'm picky about anything anyone on ESPN says. if I was on ESPN, I'd probably be comparing this Sox team to the 01 Mariners too, and Wilbon and Kornheiser generally know what they're talking about.
-
10% or 20% isn't bad, considering that before the season it was 3%. I didn't see how they said it, because actually those sound like great odds considering everything.
-
the Astros are buyers, no question about it. they were in the same position last year, and then went on a tear after the break to win the wild card. right now they're only 6.5 games back.
-
I was afriad you'd say you were one of the people behind home plate talking on the cell phone and waving. that bothers me more than fan interference, I think those people should be removed from the stadium.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) Tyson = D Eddy = O Tyson Curry = MONSTER I've always said that if you could combine Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry, you'd have the best basketball player ever. Chandler has the hustle and height, Curry has the skill and size. I just don't get Curry, he's capable of 25/12, but that would require him putting forth effort, so he gives 15/5 or whatever.

QUOTE(forrestg @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) I think August will be our toughest month 6 with the Yankees, 6 with Boston , 5with minnesota, 3 with Texas. andI hate to say it but the rest of our division is playing better.. We got a ways to go.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...00entry736500 thanks for tracking that down...I knew it was said somewhere, but I sure as hell wasn't going to look.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) Maybe they meant he wasn't producing as well because he wasn't starting? Plain and simple, in my opinion anyway, he is not a starter. That is liek saying greasy forehead (ozuna) would be a good starter. either way, I'm sure they said he wanted to start and wasn't going to get that chance here.
-
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jun 23, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) Unhappy? Not that i recall. I do recall that he would have liked a chance to start if given the oppurtunity. He also fits in with most of the royals religion wise. I'm pretty sure during one of the games vs. the Royals, Hawk or DJ mentioned that Graff's problem here was that he wasn't starting. they said he wasn't disruptive, but he still wanted a chance to be an everyday player.
-
this would be one of those moves that would get the reaction of "that's nice Kenny, but what else ya got?"
