Each season has its own budget. I'm going to guess that 13 million a few seasons ago really didn't impact much after the revenue drop last year. They always have a budget. Extrapolating it from a few years ago is a useless exercise. You could say they saved that money on the really good contracts they signed sale, quintana and Eaton to that allowed them to acquire much of the talent currently on the team.

You consider the past few off seasons failures? You do have interesting expectations. Acquiring Giolito, Keuchal, Lynn, Grandal, Moncada, Jimenez, Robert, Cease and Hendriks. Extending really good contracts to Abreu, Moncada, Jimenez and Robert. They've built a pretty good team.

Because is was worth the shot to try to get Machado. The money is inconsequential. You say Bush league, I say good attempt to upgrade the team.

Don't get impatient now. They went through a 4 year rebuilding process and can really extend that window of competitive teams with the recent drafts and international signings.

What were the odds that he must not be named would turn into what he did? At the time if the trade few even knee of him and no one has seen him. If they do that trade those are pretty much all of their top pitching prospects. They would have Vera and dalquist. It would decimate any chance if a competitive team in 3 years.

You'll need to wait and see. 3 top pitching prospects for a single pitcher has the makings of an even worse trade. What would be more valuable, 3/5 of a starting rotation or a single position player, regardless of how good he is?

It may do this but it keeps a higher priced player in the roster that would otherwise be filled by a utility player. It helps the union have an extra high priced player in the lineup. Also keeps players making more money in the lineup instead of not being able to play.

That deal would ruin the future if the Sox. That would be worse than the deal involving he who must not be named.

I really don't see those as advantages compared to the cost to owners, I think it hasn't happened because the owners are holding out to use it as leverage to get the players to expand the playoffs.

What would be the advantage for the owners to have a universal DH? It would raise players salaries and extend the career of hitters from the union side.

This won't be because it is a decidedly an advantage for the union. The ones in the article above benefit both sides.
