Very true. Doesn't change the fact that MLBPA is the strongest union in the major sports.
-
Baseball has by far the strongest union and the owners have far less power compared to all other major sports. MLB is the only sport where there isn't a salary cap and they have fully guaranteed contracts. The owners and players do everything they can to get an advantage over the other. Thats business. If you noticed all other sports had shortened seasons without all the public negotiations. Why? The owners have much more power there.

I disagree. It provides hilarious entertainment.

That would be a good move.

Is this to replace Pace?
-
I know. I was commenting just on the concept of including that many young young pitchers regardless of the trade.
-
Definitely a throw in for any trade. Get him out of town
-
Talk about trading away any chance at a future. I would never trade 5 pitchers for 1.
-
They are dragging their feet because they are going to use it as leverage during CBA negotiations, as they should. They know the players want it and will need to pay for it.
-
no doubt. Always good to see the underdog do well.

Interesting article in the Athletic about how LaFleur in GB doesn't report to Gutekunst the GM but rather Murphy the team President. The coach and GM are equal in position just with different responsibilities. I wonder how common this is as opposed to the traditional model where the coach reports to the GM?

BaseballAmerica: Kelley Draws Rave Reviews from Instructs
ptatc replied to bmags's topic in FutureSox Board
Some of this depends on how the organization values winning in the minors. I've worked in some that valued the players winning and winning as a group as they climb levels. Others value individual development regardless of game outcome. -
John kruk I assume you mean? He was a character.
-
Yes. That is elbow. Its the muscles that cross the inside of the elbow that support the UCL.
-
I thought the injury that took him out of the playoff game was the elbow. I know you corrected me on the collegiate injury when I said he had 2 elbow injuries. That one was the shoulder.
-
True, however when signing the pitcher that would be the scenario that he would need to agree to because it is a possibility.
-
It should be. But thy could use him as a spot starter in this instance because whoever it is will eventually be in the pen. I could see his value as a swingman.
-
I was agreeing with you by providing the explanation.
-
It would
-
Right that's the lower tier pitchers I stated. He will need to move to the pen once Kopech is ready and may need to spot start to keep kopech's innings in line
-
FIP is only designed to be used as a stat to determine how the pitcher is performing. It has nothing to do with ERA. It uses HR+BB-K because theoretically those are the only things pitchers can control. It's not meant to equal runs because runs also include other players doing their job. I happen to disagree that those are the only things they can control but thats a different discussion. I think SIERA is a better stat because it at least uses a model of fielding that attempts to see how pitchers use the fielders.
-
I think they go with Giolito, Keuchal, Lynn, Cease and Kopech and find a lower tier pitcher for the first month or so while kopech builds up in the minors.
-
You are discussing 2 different topics. I agree their window is open. However I disagree they are all in.
-
I don't think they should do that. They would only do that that if they were all in, which they are not, which is my point.
-
McCann only started that many because of his performance. Grandal will start 120 and Collins will start 40 closer to a normal backup catcher situation.
