I do think Bryant is holding a grudge. We'll see when he comes up for free agency.

How many wins do the Bears get this season
ptatc replied to Kyyle23's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Uh, yeah. -
Only if he extends past FA years.
-
Probably part of the reason they didn't want to pay Mack.
-
Yes "million dollar" Floyd was a big out bid for the Sox
-
I haven't read anyone say the Sox have too many OF that Jimenez is blocked. That report said the Mets have too many 1B currently.
-
Because that data is from 2009-2012. Current articles with data from 2013-2017 show that this is no longer the case and that the peak for current players is 27-28,
-
I would change that to both parties are doing what they CAN do not what they should do. I think everyone knows that the Sox should call him up based on player development and what he deserves. They can keep him down by the rules and they will.
-
I agree it's a smart business move. It's also within the letter of the rules however it's not within the spirit of the rules. This is why the Sox will win the grievance. Still doesn't mean that it's right or that they are treating him player appropriately.
-
The Sox do have blame. They are purposely limiting his income for the sole reason of limiting his income. Just because you agree with this practice doesn't mean it's right. It is solely to benefit the monetary position of the team. Thy should file a grievance. They will lose but they should still file it.

This is where the likes and dislikes come into play. Our biases makes us look at it in a microscope. Others will look at it and say they prefer the high power guy as long as they have good defense because so few SS have good power. Either way Anderson as a player is around average overall. -

Yep. We all have the things we like and dislike. There is nothing wrong with that. The only problem is that how many better are there. I'm sure all MLB teams would love to have improvements at all positions. No team has the best player at multiple positions. The question is how many players can get as close to thag as possible within the frame of the entire team. If you get a team of all at least average players, thats a pretty good team. -

Agreed. We all have favorites and dislikes. Most of it is just opinion and that's the fun of sports. Even if it can be proven wrong, we will still feel that way and still treat it that way. Afterall it is just a game. -

Most of if the discussions start with internal biases. Then we look for information to support or refute that bias. Like you said scientific method. All of the research I've done over the years starts with an internal bias in one way or another. This is the way we learn. -
That article is from 2013 and is outdated. There have been more recent articles from baseball reference , unfortunately I can't figure out how to link them, that states the peak age is 27-28. Of course if they are called up at 25, the peak is pretty close to when they are called up.

The outliers are the 1-2 standard deviations from the bottom AND top of the bell curve. If you are discounting outliers lindor and Ramirez along with a few others mostly need to be excluded as well. -

Nobody has seen Billy Madison? I really shouldn't have said that but the quote from the movie came into my mind while reading this thread. -

Again by this philosophy let's take the best OF in Trout. All other OF must suck because they can't play center field AND hit like him. If you are comparing all other players to the best at their positions everyone in the MLB sucks except for maybe 10 players. The entire premise of your discussions is invalid. Everyone is dumber for having to listen to this insanely idiotic diatribe. I award you no points. May God have mercy on our souls. -

By this theory, SS has a different job than the 1B. 1B is to catch the ball from the other fielders and hold runners on the base. An SS job is to cover a much greater range and throw the ball to the 1B. The OF primary job is to catchthe ball before it hits the ground, the SS primarily catches the ball on the ground. All of the jobs require a different set of physical skills which in turn impacts their hitting. -

So your basic point is that all SS and 2B in MLB suck because they aren't Machado who sucks at fielding but can hit. Have ever considered the fact that most of the really good OPS guys can't find the position? Or does being a good fielder not factor into being a good SS. -
They gave up quite a bit in the last one. Drug testing, international signing limits/penalties, Luxury tax and penalties, Domestic draft designated bonus pools.
-
Did they discuss why the Cubs haven't called him up yet?
-
I wouldn't count on it either. However, I don't think it's any of the extraneous factors. I think the y are going to wait to see however the young players develop and then fill in the holes later.
-
Yes. The players would need to give up a ton to get less service time or a hard floor.
-
This would be logical which is why it won't be agreed upon.
