  1. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) For the reasons you've been saying would be my guess. I just don't agree that he needs to sit for 3 years watching terrible QB's play before he'll be any good I would agree. Even though Rogers said it was valuable, 3 years is extreme.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 09:49 AM) Lol you are hilarious this morning. McCown I failed spelling in school.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 09:18 AM) Ironically, they probably coulda signed Kaepernick and a Terrell Pryor or Pierre Garcon and wound up with a far better setup for less money. No doubt. Even a Josh Mckown making half the money would have been a better choice.
  4. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 08:01 AM) Ok this is bothering me a bit. Ptatc, his last name is Trubisky. No e in it at all. It is? My mistake. I thought I read it with the e.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) Yeah, I would agree making him the back up and saying he isn't ready totally contradict each other. But, if he did play up until now, he wouldn't have been gameplanned for, and it probably would have helped. The one thing they liked about Glennon was a lack of turnovers. That blew up in their faces. No doubt they picked a poor lame duck QB. The top 2 WRs going down early didn't help him much though.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 07:31 AM) This is really easy guys. If they didn't think he was ready to play then he wouldn't be the #2 QB on game days. My only question would be, Why isn't he starting then? Fox knows his job is on the line.
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 2, 2017 -> 12:55 AM) ok...I'll just say...I disagree with your opinion (that you keep repeating like a broken record). So your opinion is he's not ready (regardless of the fact you stated you'd like to see him start)...lol ok. Again...we'll find out next monday. But keep throwing out the word "irrelevant". You don't think guys like Hicks standing up and stating "changes need to be made and to make changes that put the team in a better position to succeed" aren't directed at Glennon and the coaching staff?!?!? hahahaa...geezus. If that's not a damning statement...not sure what to tell ya. I'd venture to say he's not the only one that feels that way...and whether you agree or not...those opinions do matter. And I'd venture to say they see it every day in practice...those comments are pretty telling I'd say. It's called "losing a team" from a coaches standpoint. Sorry...if you can't see that. And fyi...my answer as to why he should be playing is based on what I've seen from Trubisky to date and his abilities (as many others have)...in my opinion he's ready...and yes...he'll make mistakes. But won't look like an incompetent boob out there like Glennon has. So quit twisting my words to fit your narrative. Seems Watson is ready down in Houston with his 5 td passes today (and honestly he looked completely unprepared in preseason). Kizer...meh...bad example. Russell Wilson was ready. Jameis Winston was ready. Trubisky has shown he's very capable. If you think it's better to handle him with kid gloves...cool...your opinion. Again...we'll find out soon enough. No offense..but I like my option/opinion much better as well...and so does most of Chicago sans a few. If they throw him out there and he looks completely over his head...I'll admit I'm wrong. But I wont' judge on one game. But it's time to move forward with him... You shouldn't judge by one game. I'm going to sound like a broken record here again. the long term development of Trubiskey is the key. Not next game not this year. It doesn't matter what other rookie QBs have done this year. They are all different and Trubiskey has a disadvantage over all of them with his lack of experience. Every example you used were QBs from big programs with multiple years of starting experience. I never said I wanted him to start at any time other than when he was ready. My comment was that this week makes the most sense if the coaching staff thought he was ready. I'm not twisting your words. Glennon sucks everyone knows it. that doesn't mean you should rush Trubiskey. Using a baseball example, Eloy jimenez looks to be the most talented OF the Sox have. Why isn't he in the MLB? I'm sure Hicks probably was referring to this situation. He is a player and wants to win now. The front office can't afford to look that short term. Their job is to look into the future as well. You very well could be right and he is ready although I'm not sure why they wouldn't play him if he was ready. I'm just pointing out why he might not be and stating I would not not take the chance of ruining him if he wasn't. There are plenty of examples where it wasn't successful to throw players into starting, Tim couch, JaMarcus Russell, Alex smith (although he became decent with his next team, doesn't help the Bears), Jason campbell, Vince, young, Jeff George, and the one many people look at is Jim Plunket. There are examples on both sides, all players are different. I would just be cautious with him try do what is best for his development and not focus on what the Bears need today.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 11:53 PM) If Trubisky will be "ruined" by starting early then he was never going to be good anyway. Trubisky is currently the best QB on the Bears roster and should be playing, just like any other position on the team. This could be true but I don't think it's a given. I just wouldn't take that chance with the future of the franchise. He definitely has more physical gifts than the others but I'm not sure about everything else. it doesn't always work out to just throw them in to starting just look at the Bears other QB, sanchez. He was the best QB at the time. Would he have been more successful if the Jets let him sit and learn for awhile? Listen to the interview from Rogers. He thinks the best thing that happened to him was to sit and learn. You can find examples either way. My only point is that why take that chance and the play of glennon should have no impact on the decision.
  9. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:19 PM) Oh stop...nobody is attacking you. You just threw out all this stuff about "not in his best interest"...and then claimed you'd like to see him start. Which is it? You also claim it makes no difference what his teammates think. Of course it does! Other teams have no problem doing this (starting rookies). Trubisky is ready...he's been ready. Fox is just a stubborn ass...but that's neither here nor there. It Glennon's teammates have zero confidence in him...you don't think that's an issue? You claim my opinion is based on "not liking how Glennon is playing"....lol...ummmmm....I think 99% of Chicago feels the same way. It's based on the fact that Glennon absolutely stinks and they have to spoon feed him plays so he doesn't get killed back there and it completely limits what the offense can do. He's horrible! You put the best player out there. They've had how many months now to prepare Trubisky? And I don't care if you want to claim he was playing against 2nd or 3rd string D...he still made plays. Stop and think...he made plays play WITH 2nd and 3rd string O. He's ready. And yes...he'll still make rookie mistakes. But this team will be better with his rookie mistakes than Glennon's complete ineptness that handcuffs the entire team. I get your point of coddling him til "he's ready"...I just don't buy that form of preparedness....not with this scenario. Trubisky is head and shoulders more capable of running this offense that the Giraffe..... So the comment about people putting me on a pedestal ....and I should stick to medicine because you doubt my football knowledge wasn't directed to me. I'm not allowed to have opinion other than medical ones wasn't either? The future of the Bears success depends on Trubiskey. The entire decision making process of when to play him should revolve around when he is ready. It shouldn't mater if everyone except his mother thinks Glennon sucks. He is irrelevant to the Bears future. What the teammates think is irrelevant because Glennon is irrelevant. He is just the place holder until Trubiskey is ready and everyone knew it as soon as Trubiskey was drafted. I've said all along that he should play when he is ready, whether that was the first game this year or next year. I've given reasons as to why he may not be ready and reasons why the coaches may not be playing him. So far your answer as to why he should be playing is that Glennon sucks and every knows it, that he played well in the pre-season and from your intimate knowledge of the team, they have zero confidence in him. No offense but I still like my rationale better and will stick with this opinion.
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) Wait...you're saying it's your choice he's start next game...then throw out all this bulls*** arguing it?!??!? hahaha....just stop...honestly. First off...Fox is a effin idiot...he's stubborn...and has always been this way with rookies. It's not really how today's NFL works. Your assertion the team "know's starting him is foolish" has zero basis...it's pure conjecture on your part. You don't know....regardless of how knowledgeable you think you are with all this...it's your opinion. I know people put you on this pedestal here with your medical knowledge and all...cool...good for you. Stick to that...because honestly I'm doubting your football knowledge right now with these comments. They're your opinions...I get that. But don't spout them like it's etched in stone. not sure why you think you need to attack me personally about this. It really hurts my feeling when you say you doubt my football knowledge. Yes, it would be the best scenario to give a rookie the best preparation for a game. That doesn't mean that is what the coaches feel is best. I do think your opinion is wrong and is based purely on not liking the way Glennon is playing. And my opinion is that this is the wrong way to approach this. Glennon has no bearing on the future of this franchise. Trubiskey does. I'm still not sure why anyone would want to risk that just for the chance of a few wins on a bad team. Does phrasing it with the word opinion in it make it better? Of course they are my opinions. However, my opinions don't count as much as the coach's do, because of their intimate knowledge of the situation and experience, which you seem to think is less important than your knowledge and experience in this situation.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 08:47 PM) I'm not saying he doesn't throw hard, because he does relative to the average American, but Corey Kluber has the second highest fWAR in the majors this year among pitchers and he has "below average" fastball velocity at 92.6 MPH. It was 92.5 MPH last year and at its highest was 93.2 MPH. I believe you are right, but that involves a lot of learning and tinkering and repetition to fine tune the mechanics and increase the movement of pitches while being able to command it. Corey Kluber was 27 years old when he had his first real full season and wasn't the dominant pitcher he is until a year later. In today's society in general, we want the explosion and the zip, because it's sexy and it does get guys out, but Corey Kluber has proven why velocity is not the end all be all. You need to have some - guys that throw 84 only make it once in a blue moon - but you don't need to throw 99. It's not just pure velocity though. It's your velocity relative to your top velocity. If you can throw 99 but sit at 95 vs. you can throw 99 and sit at 97. Kluber might still be throwing near his max. This is where the stress is increased on the arm.
  12. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 02:28 PM) evidently Watson is ready. 5 td passes today. Yeah...the whole "Trubisky isn't ready" argument is idiotic. Watson threw 1200 passes in college. Trubiskey less than 600. So I'm going to say that watson has twice as much experience reading defenses as Trubiskey therefore has a better chance of being ready earlier for the NFL. Not all college QBs are ready at the same rate.
  13. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Oct 1, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) The starting OL is completely healthy. Furthermore, I'm done with the "Trubisky isn't ready yet." You know what, evidently Glennon isn't either. He is not ready to start for any professional football team. We should expect Trubisky to struggle and make mistakes BECAUSE HE IS A ROOKIE. Glennon is making rookie mistakes as a veteran in an offense requires him to do next to nothing. He is pathetic. so you are going to sacrifice the future of Trubiskey because glennon is incompetent? That's your philosophy. I would choose not to.
  14. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 10:20 PM) lol...ok. We'll see next Monday won't we. Who cares what the rest of the team thinks?????....seriously?....mkay. They decision is what's best for the team. He sure as hell didn't look like he had trouble with decision making in preseason did he? And please with the getting people injured bs...geezus. Again...we'll see next monday...he'll start. Yes. Seriously, every player there knows what Trubiskey looks like in practice. They also know that starting him with anything less than full preparation is foolish. He didn't have problems with decision making in the preseason because A. the teams did not run true defenses, B. they didn't game plan for him and C. Half the time he did roll outs to trim his decision making to half the field. none of that will cut it in the regular season. He may start next game, that would be my choice but the coaching staff knows if he is ready or not. Do you truly think Fox is purposely playing the worse QB? His job is on the line. The only thing that would change this would be if PACE is ordering it.
  15. QUOTE (Wanne @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) lol...I'll throw a C note down right now that Trubisky doesn't look a fraction of the incompetent boob Glennon looks like right now. The thing you're missing is when you have a QB that's rolling out of the pocket...and can actually run it shifts the defense...they have to accommodate for his mobility and it'll leave receivers open more. It changes the offense completely. Fans just want to see progress with the young guys and the team...with Glennon they took 3 steps back. Nobody is...I guess I'm not anyway...anointing Trubisky as a HOFer. BUT...what we will see is a capable QB back there that'll make plays with his arm and legs. Sure he'll make rookie mistakes...and most Bear fans can live with that. But I suspect you'll see a kid that actually has his s*** together back there and doesn't look like a deer in the headlights. I think this team will have some confidence in him as well.... Glennon's play should absolutely no impact on the decision to play Trubiskey. Who cares what the rest of the team thinks right now. The decision should be purely based on what is best for trubiskey in the long term. If he is having difficulty with decision making in practice or the film room, you don't play him. These type of issues will get him, the receivers and the o-line injured. If find it hard to believe that Fox wouldn't play him if he thought Trubiskey gave him the best chance to win. Fox's job is on the line and he knows it. The only other factor would be if Pace told Fox not to play him and then the point is moot.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) Do you think baseball is destined to have pitchers go through lineups twice and that's it? They might have to expand rosters to carry up to 15 pitchers? Baseball in 10 years is going to be a deal where starters and all pitchers last about two innings max per night, right? No. There aren't enough quality pitchers now. They've tried that in the past where each pitcher only went 3 innings. It doesn't work. They'll still have the starter expectation at 5-6 with middle releivers and closers. The middle guys being the least talented.
  17. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 11:11 AM) Many (including major league players I've talked to over the years) think pitch counts and pitchers being "baby-ed" are part of it. Johnny Sain the great pitching coach had his pitchers throw every single day, even if it was just a few minutes of light throwing on the side in order to build up arm and shoulder strength. This is one theory. The problem with that is most pitchers back then didnt make it to the MLB. The got hurt in the minors. Only the pitchers that could tolerate that workload survived. That isnt an option today with more teams and more pitchers needed. I think its more that pitchees today focus too much on throwing too hard too often. There is no pacing themselves to gog deep in games. They burn themsleves out in 5-6 innings and put too much stress on the arm.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) Not sure why there has been some sarcastic comments made in my direction. I'm pegging the over under at 400 innings and 6 fwar over the next 3 years for Rodon. I'm taking the under. Anybody wanna take the over for a sig or avatar bet. There is no "minor" shoulder surgery for a MLB pitcher sox can spin it however they want. He still is going to lose a ton of strength and ROM with no guarantee of a 100% recovery. There should be no loss of ROM from any surgery on anyone, except for surgery to increase stability such as a joint replacement. If you blieve what they said and there was no cuff surgery the strength won't be effected either.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 04:17 PM) How does the surgery affect the bursitis? What is the long term prognosis for that condition? They don't do surgery for bursitis. This was basically exploratory because they couldn't figure it out. There are only two bursae in this area. The biceps and subacromial. They debrided either the bicep / labrum or the rotator cuff. Good news, no significant structural damage. Bad news, no guarantee they found the problem. 6 to 8 months is a long time for not funding anything.
  20. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Lopez through 4 , 0 R 1H 1BB 5K Getting 1st pitch strike on just about everyone. Fastball still in 96-98 range A little extra in the tank knowing it's his last start of the season.
  21. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 11:58 AM) 2020 Sox are going to have a log jam at 1B/DH if we keep drafting guys who can't play any defense Look at the moneyball A's. That was the entire team and part of the downfall in the playoffs.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:34 PM) That is a big issue. Hampton and OB were b****ing about the Bears and how they had to hit hard in practice, etc. You can't anymore. But, the other problem with Thursday games is the teams have 1 full practice to prepare, and how many players, especially later in the season get held out of practice anyways? It's a money grab that needs to go away. Absolutely. Also there is a fatigue factor when there only 3 days off between games, if they go Sunday-Thursday. Throughout the rest of the season, I still think it's the lack of muscle memory on how to avoid big hits. It is just a money grab, but personally I like seeing games more often and not having to wait until Sunday to see the next game. The quality is usually less but it's still football.
  23. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) He seems very upright in his last movements. He also looks like he throws across his body and his arm almost rebounds back during his recovery phase. His motion is not typical of someone who can generate the type of velocity he can. People have all sorts of odd mechanics. But it always amazed me on his stuff with the way his mechanics look. Hopefully everything is fine. Yes. in general, he doesn't use his trunk or lower extremities to dissipate the force of the pitch. All of the force is concentrated in the shoulder. This leads to inconsistent command and possible injury in the shoulder. There are odd mechanics and then there are that we can look at and determine they may put extra force concentrated in an area. This does not always lead to injuries but it can make you worry about it. His follow through mechanics seem to be coming more popular for whatever reason as you see more pitchers coming to the MLB with this.
  24. QUOTE (raBBit @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:19 PM) We will have closure on Rodon by the end of the week. Sounds like a little exploratory arthroscopy to me.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 01:06 PM) With the injury problem going on, the league absolutely needs to extend the season a week (while not adding any additional games played), it adds an additional week of regular season TV games. It creates the ability to provide 2 bye weeks for players, allowing for player safety and you could largely argue it also creates an increase in overall revenues that would enable the league to reduce the preseason by 1-2 games (since regular season TV revenues should easily outweigh preseason revenues). Extra rest should enhance the overall quality of play. Just too many injuries going on now, which dilutes the quality of game and in reality can widely impact whether your best teams are in the playoffs or not. Just seems like a no-brainer, albeit, there are so many contenious points between players/owners that it will take a while to happen. The injuries they are seeing aren't from a lack of rest. Most of the ones now are from a lack of practice time. The players just don't know how to take a hit with the least amount of impact. These aren't soft tissue type injuries. They are most getting impact or non=contact trying to avoid other players type injuries. IMHO
