  1. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 10:46 PM) A least it's not like Tilson and his constant stress reactions but it's nothing to sneeze at, they are painful. Don't know if reoccur after rest or not. For the Sox sake they better not be on-going. They could be stress reactions similar to Tilsons. Howwever ones in the tibia generally arent as troublesome as ones in the foot due to the shape of the bone. Although Kevin White would disagree. Ithink this one is more soft tissue related.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 24, 2017 -> 09:36 PM) Having issues with shin splints. I read that is can take a minimum couple weeks of rest and up to six Months to heal He's had them for most of the season. It won't get substantially better until he rests in the off season. By the stumble that caused it, i would guess it's his posterior tibial tendon as the MTSS cause.
  3. nicky ribeye really needs to stop dropping the bat on 3 ball counts when he thinks it's a walk. Umps really don't like it. Yesterday he did it and there were 3 straight Ks with the bases loaded from a pitcher who doesn't K many. The strike zone will change after he does it.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) Maybe. But we have to remember they get warmup pitches before the inning starts so that seems like a good time to try to get the feel for it. Again I will plead ignorance because maybe he did do that . I have no idea how they approach warmup pitches before the start of an inning. But again I was impressed . He's supposed to have a great curve and good changeup. I still think he can be a TOR starter with fastball (2 and 4 seam), curve and changeup. He's not even close to a finished product. Even for those worried about his FB speed. (avg 93.2 for the game) commanding it is more important. Once he gets enough reps with all three pitches and can consistently repeat his mechanics he will be very good. But no one should expect that soon. This as with all pitchers is the key. When he got a little wild you could see him get under his FB and CH and it would sail high. The impressive part was that he recognized it and corrected it within at bats. I really like the fact that he was willing to go inside to LH and when he missed it was further inside. He's got it mentally. I don't think he is too far away.
  5. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 22, 2017 -> 08:10 PM) Giolito looks like a guy that is going to pitch his best "effectively wild". Being aggressive inside to hitters, especially LH is the key
  6. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 02:17 PM) Well, maybe I missed all of this in school as well as the fact that half don't make sense. 1) When would Kevin White have time to watch ALL of Fitz's games? 2) Get out of the gate QUICKLY is what he meant 3) Not sure hideous is a word to describe the way a football team's DB's play 4) I've never heard the dog expression in my life Obviously not from a farm. The expression means that when young dogs are aggressive enough and not intimidated by the older dogs, they will be good dogs and leaders of the pack later on.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 06:58 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 White Sox last, and it's not even close...for cumulative team fWAR (position players). Only a 30.2 spread to make up with the Blue Jays. They have scored more runs per game than the Blue Jays.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 1, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) I think this is the problem I am having, and then the redirects are getting blocked. I was having this issue earlier today. It is working now though.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) It's one practice ptatc, c'mon. And usually I would give the benefit of the doubt for an organization. Not the Chargers who've had a LONG history with questionable decision making on their players. I'm not saying I would look at it this way but I've known coaches that would. i think this is a different case as it's a new coach, a new city and it's the first day of camp. I wouldn't hold them back but I'm not surprised that an NFL coach did.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 31, 2017 -> 05:16 PM) Chargers telling Rivers and Gates they can't attend Tomlinson's HOF enshrinement. New city, same s***ty leadership. I think many coaches especially ones new to the team would do the same thing. Coaches take first day of camp seriously.
  11. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) People keep using this as an argument and I don't buy it. I'd love to be proven wrong but I don't see them competing in that way. Majority of fans are: Cubs fans or Sox fans. The % of people that are "I'm going to whichever team is doing well" is probably pennies in the grand scheme of revenue. The Sox have been and will continue to be "2nd" due to a variety of hostorical factors out of the teams control (neighborhood, old school national broadcast stuff, etc.) and no single trade or a couple bad years for the Cubs is going to change any of that. My entire 'meathead' argument is solely based on not wanting to trade with them. Cheer against the Cubs all you want, but if the scouts & FO you trusted to be in charge of the team tell you "This trade with the Cubs is our best offer and will make the team better" you fuggin do it and none of the stupid "but I hate them Cubbies!!!" arguments should be anywhere near that decision. It hurts JR's business to help the Cubs win. It's as simple as that. However as you can see he did come to the same conclusion you did. Take the better deal. It will still hurt his business. There are articles every about what trades were the best and worst between the teams. This trades will be discussed for decades if it helps the Cubs to win another world series.
  12. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Billionaire owner of the team with the same mindset as a meathead fan. You are way off base here. He competes with the Cubs for the almighty dollar. Ad revenues, TV/radio broadcasts etc. While the team isn't in direct competition for games and playoffs, the owners are certainly in competition for Chicago.
  13. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 05:49 PM) Is the sky blue? Is water wet? Not below 0 degrees celsius.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:31 PM) Something like this could spell the end of the sport. The NFL has already tried taken the Tobacco lobby road and pretending it doesn't exist and burying it into a lot of other things that it COULD be... so far it has cost them a billion dollars, and some horrible publicity. I already know of parents who aren't letting their kids play youth football because of it. The NFL has got to be proactive with this, especially at the youth level. I don't think it will be the end of the NFL for 2 reasons. 1. gambling 2. the players make too much money not to have people want to play. there may be a decrease in participation but it will still be there. the parents who won't let kids play are falling for the media hype and are really uninformed about the real CTE. The kids are susceptible in basketball and soccer as well. There just isn't enough known about it. They may be better off not letting them take pain meds with any injuries.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:11 PM) The problem is that this is a number that is way above zero in a situation where anything above zero is a really bad thing. Even if we are talking something way less extreme like 10%, that is something like 150 people per YEAR that are going to suffer debilitating brain damage. That can't be an acceptable number. But what caused it? If it occurs so often in non-pro athletes what do you do to stop it? Make all opiates illegal? Tell everyone not to hit their head during everyday life? controlling for all factors is nearly impossible but they can try. it is acceptable if they choose to participate. Football is a collision sport. they are trying to limit the exposure to concussions but they can't eliminate it. Players won't allow it. they'll lire about their head hurting and say it's their shoulder. When I was working in the NFL in the late 80's/early 90's, we asked players if they knew PEDs would take 10 years off their lives would they still take them. The answers were overwhelmingly yes. Why, because where else can they make that kind of money for their families.
  16. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:14 PM) Doesn't have to with nobody on Too true
  17. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 04:09 PM) Avi is going to finish below 290 isn't he. Would still be a good year for him.
  18. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 03:55 PM) The NFL will just pour more money into the heads up program, which tries to focus on concussions, completely missing the point. Concussions are one aspect they can control to an extent. They've also put rules in for testing for opiates and PEDs. the testing doesn't go far enough but again it's fighting against a union for regulations just like baseball.
  19. QUOTE (Yoda @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) Are the injuries getting the best of Rodon? 2 years ago when he first pitched against the Cubs at Wrigley he was awesome. I was in attendance and he threw 8 shutout innings. I said when they drafted him that his poor follow through would lead to constant control and command issues. Unfortunately, he hasn't learned yet.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) Dumbest thing in the world. But it got the Cubs millions of followers as they came home from school and watched the games on WGN nationwide.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Huh on the bolded? This study is saying "110 of 111". So that quote is saying there are examples outside this study where it isn't present, and yet you just said it can be as high as 92% elsewhere? Your statements against this disagree with each other. They do. that is the point. Don't take one study of case reports and have a newspaper report it like it's the only source. It's a single low quality study. Many other studies will disagree with it. It's the nature of medical research. Read the link I posted, sorry forgot it in the original post. It is more of the common view of current research. No one really knows the true incidence because: 1) they still really don't have an accurate way to diagnose it, 2) it is, like all medical issues, multi-factorial 3) concussions are a factor but not even be the primary factor.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 12:43 PM) The NFL didn't "find out" anything from that report today, I'm sure they have known for a long time. It's tough for the NFL to have this info made public. Don't just get sucked in by the media hype of the issue. Some studies have found incidence of CTE in non-pro football players as high as 92%. Here are a couple of quotes from the suntimes article even: "Some players do not have evidence of this disease despite long playing years,” she noted." "It’s also uncertain if some players’ lifestyle habits — alcohol, drugs, steroids, diet — might somehow contribute, McKee said." Some studies are starting to link abuse of steroids or opiates to the issue as well because most of the brains studied are from the 60's, 70's and early 80's. here is a link to a systematic review which is a much more rigorous study than the case reports that suntimes article is based upon. edit: forgot the link: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4324991/
  23. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) After reading Longenhagen's writeup on O'Neill this doesn't seem as bad, I don't think anyone else but MLB.com considers him anything close to a top 30 prospect, and I think with this trade it's clear the Mariners don't either. Plus pitching, especially LHP is always more valuable then hitting. One for one it's not a bad trade. O'neill's stats really don't bear any superstar potential.
  24. I've been in Germany and Austria for a few week and all he** breaks loose with trades! Hahn and KW are really putting themselves out there with both trades. They both included trading established MLB pitching for prospects who haven't played AA ball yet (the primary pieces). especially the Quintana trade where they gave up a TOR pitcher for the A ball player. They got excellent prospects but none as advanced as the Sale or Eaton trades.
  25. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 05:55 PM) Update from CBS Sports on 6/13: Tilson (foot) could embark on a rehab assignment in late June or early July, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports. Tilson's comeback from a stress reaction in his foot has been long and arduous, but it seems like there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel. He's been participating in intrasquad games at extended spring training, so his rehab stint could be fairly short once he gets to that point. http://icbl.baseball.cbssports.com/players...yerpage/2046464 This is absolutely, a crazy long time for a stress fracture.
